View Full Version : Pistons offseason 2012 Glenn 04-18-2012, 09:44 PM Pistons switching from Vegas to Orlando summer league. Or so I'm told. Glenn 04-26-2012, 10:34 PM Vincent Ellis: #Pistons owner Tom Gores when asked what are realistic goals for next season: "We better make the playoffs. That's realistic." Glenn 04-27-2012, 12:23 PM Joe D: "We're gonna make moves and add to the team. Draft, FA, trade, whatever .. we have to get better and we will." :langlois: Glenn 04-27-2012, 12:28 PM More Dumars On use of amnesty: "Not necessarily ... it's one of those things when season is over with you sit down internally and has it out" More amnesty: "You have to have a plan. You don't do it just to do it." If there's someone to acquire or to have flexibility, maybe :langlois: Glenn 04-27-2012, 12:29 PM Austin Daye will be part of Summer League team along with Macklin, Knight. Also, anticipate Singler in Summer League :langlois: Glenn 04-27-2012, 12:39 PM Joe D: No limitations financially. We're ready to take next step. Last few years necessities to rebuilding. :langlois: Glenn 04-27-2012, 12:41 PM Gores to Joe D: "Think out of the box. Nothing is off the table. ... It's nice." :langlois: Glenn 04-27-2012, 12:42 PM ^ The box. http://p.twimg.com/AYXSM-jCEAAWS9-.jpg:large Pharaoh 04-27-2012, 09:57 PM here's hoping we do something... this business of being "competitive" is a fucking joke. We're not a real playoff team and not bad enough to get the best Draft picks - "stuck in the middle" is not where you want to be Joe Asberry 04-29-2012, 07:50 AM July 13, 2009 was the last time Dumars traded a player who was on the roster, he gave away Afflalo for a 2nd round pick. Every other team has made multiple trade since then, only the Pistons haven't made a single trade since July 2009. Pharaoh 04-29-2012, 08:26 AM I'll cut Joe some slack in that department due to the ownership stuation... but from reading this stuff Joe has the green light to shake things up Can he do it? Will he do it? And what kind of team will we be after it? If we have a bunch of young kids that play balls out every night then I'll be happy. If we have a bunch of middle of the road veterans then I'll be pissed! Uncle Mxy 04-30-2012, 07:11 AM July 13, 2009 was the last time Dumars traded a player who was on the roster, he gave away Afflalo for a 2nd round pick. It'd be kind of amusing if Macklin, the second round pick, turned out to be as valuable to us as Afflalo. Glenn 06-23-2012, 09:31 PM http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/1233635-nba-free-agency-2012-four-reasons-detroit-pistons-could-pursue-brandon-roy?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Brandon Roy? TBro? Uncle Mxy 06-24-2012, 04:44 PM Would you trade BG and #9 pick for Noah? Glenn 06-24-2012, 05:47 PM I'd throw in Austin Daye, too. Timone 06-24-2012, 06:05 PM I can think of a few places I'd throw Austin Daye. LOL!! Glenn 06-24-2012, 06:24 PM Kstat is not impressed with that. Higherwarrior 07-01-2012, 12:58 AM yancy gates has been invited to our summer league team. i like this kid a lot and think he's a guy who could sneak onto an nba roster. big body (6-9 and about 280), solid rebounder and very solid low post game. his athleticism is limited but he's a banger and i think there's a place for him to play a good - albeit limited- role off the bench, in time. i'd say he's a bit like dejaun blair or big baby. very good finisher around the bucket, good hands, and a smart player. he looked really good in the big east tournament when i watched him. he became their go-to guy and was simply dominant at times. i hope he shines and finds a way to make it. we could use another big body anyway, right? knight daye prince stuckey bynum singler magette monroe jerebko j-max drummond english middleton charlie v (hopefully we use the amnesty before july 19th on him!) that's 14 unless i'm missing someone. assuming/hoping CV is gone that's 13. leaves 2 potential roster spots for another big and perhaps another PG. will be interesting to see how things shape up. Pharaoh 07-01-2012, 06:05 AM I'd like to see Big Ben back to take one of those spots. I'f he doesn't want to play then I would hope Joe tries to bring him back as a "coach" of some description Nova must go... I guess if we amnesty him we could claim we gave up a future first to dump BOTH Nova and BG... Small price to pay for a do-over Here's hoping Joe uses the cap room in a much more productive way this time Higherwarrior 07-01-2012, 08:06 AM ah- of course, big ben. well if we amnesty charlie v, we'd have roster space for 2 more players. :) yeah i think ben could be a good mentor for drummond and others. FYI i think i read somewhere that if we want to use the amnesty this year, we have to use it by july 19th. please do it joe!!! mercury 07-01-2012, 11:25 AM Yea, Ben could show Drummond how to improve his FT % Uncle Mxy 07-01-2012, 12:28 PM Armon Johnson seems like maybe a taller version of Will Bynum. Mr. Oobir 07-02-2012, 01:09 AM The Pistons are apparently signing a center from the Ukraine? http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8121391/detroit-pistons-agree-deal-ukrainian-c-vyacheslav-kravtsov Pharaoh 07-02-2012, 04:38 AM Wasn't Johnson highly rated coming out of college? Or am I thinking of someone else? His name certainly sounds familiar Glenn 07-02-2012, 06:28 AM The Pistons are apparently signing a center from the Ukraine? http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8121391/detroit-pistons-agree-deal-ukrainian-c-vyacheslav-kravtsov Explains the Macklin thing. jagrskmu 07-02-2012, 07:07 AM Summer camp signing. He has been in other summer camps and hasn't stuck, so think fodder for summer and early training camp. But no real talent. Glenn 07-02-2012, 07:54 AM Multi-year deal for a summer league signing? Also, nice to see you, Jags. Glenn 07-02-2012, 08:49 AM Multi-year deal for a summer league signing? Langlois is saying that Kravtsov is likely our first big off the bench this year. Glenn 07-02-2012, 08:56 AM Roster now at 15, without Big Ben. Pharaoh 07-02-2012, 10:04 AM Amnesty Nova and open the roster spot already! Higherwarrior 07-02-2012, 04:25 PM we have under 2 weeks to amnesty charlie v- we'd be stupid NOT TO, considering his salary and our depth chart. we still could make a trade which might free up a roster spot (2 for 1 deal for those who aren't good at math) but i would hope to see gates and maclin competing for the last roster spot. i like gates a lot. maclin has potential i'd like to see stick around too, but with j-max opting in, someone will have to go which is a shame. Uncle Mxy 07-02-2012, 07:09 PM Langlois is saying that Kravtsov is likely our first big off the bench this year. I bet Blaha just calls him Slava Vinny 07-08-2012, 10:28 PM I thought Ben was like 98% sure to retire? Didn't he get a standing O and all that his last game? Did I miss something? Higherwarrior 07-10-2012, 04:13 PM read somewhere that joe has no plans to amnesty charlie v. just ridiculous if that's true. Uncle Mxy 07-10-2012, 06:24 PM CV>Daye I'd be irked if we amnestied CV and didn't move Daye too. Higherwarrior 07-10-2012, 06:59 PM 2 things- CV's deal is FAR more cumbersome to carry on our salary cap. it's a ridiculous deal actually and one we should dump at any given opportunity. he can be more productive than daye, absolutely. but we have more than enough depth at his position and he is way overpaid for what he gives us. 2- daye at least offers the hope of a higher ceiling with a much more cap friendly contract. i'd much rather give him another year to develop than to stay with a hugely overpaid CV who has already reached his ceiling. dumping CV is a no brainer and i can only think pride alone would keep joe from doing it. let's remember it's not just about the player and his production (although i think with our wing depth, he's very easily replaced also) his contract coming off the books would without a doubt in my mind be in the best interest of the team. IronManKind 08-07-2012, 12:22 AM At this point unless some sucker out there still thinks CV can play (thus you can trade him) or there is some FA available that you want to sign over Charles, why not let him ride the pine, maybe shoot some threes in blowouts and trade him as an expiring next year? I don't think he's poisonous to the team, just not worth a damn. I don't think there's any harm in having a stretch 4 as the 11th man. Uncle Mxy 08-07-2012, 07:27 AM Poisonous? I think the word you're looking for is "cancerous". :) Pharaoh 08-08-2012, 08:29 AM I thought Joe was going to shake up the roster? Trading Ben Gordon for Corey Maggette and using our Draft picks is a far cry from a shake up! WTF? Another season looms where we are just passing the time... I'm not saying I don't like some of the pieces we have or saying I don't think some of the "iffy" players we have could turn a corner but seriously... One trade is not a fucking shake up! Got my hopes up for nothing (: Glenn 08-08-2012, 11:13 AM I thought Joe was going to shake up the roster? Trading Ben Gordon for Corey Maggette and using our Draft picks is a far cry from a shake up! I'm not saying I don't like some of the pieces we have or saying I don't think some of the "iffy" players we have could turn a corner but seriously... One trade is not a fucking shake up! Got my hopes up for nothing (: Hey look, we have an armchair GM here! I'm sure you think that YOU think that YOU could do a better job than the guy that built THE 2004 WORLD CHAMPIONS??!? What have YOU ever done that compares to that? Did YOU play the game? Right, that's what I thought. I'm done here. Glenn 08-08-2012, 11:16 AM Yeah, that felt good. DrRay11 08-08-2012, 01:02 PM No, but he DID stay at a Burger King Express last night. Vinny 08-09-2012, 12:55 AM king Pharaoh 08-09-2012, 09:33 AM Did I miss the return of Kstat? Has the real GD been abducted by Kstat and his Krew? Is Kstat forcing the real GD to lick the sweat from between K's arse cheeks as punishment? Heaven help us all if GD has been abducted... Glenn 08-15-2012, 04:44 PM Ellis points out that Storytellers reveals that Pistons used part of the MLE to sign Kraptsov and Singler. http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/Detroit.htm DrRay11 08-15-2012, 07:03 PM LONG LIVE LION! mercury 08-16-2012, 04:15 AM Ellis points out that Storytellers reveals that Pistons used part of the MLE to sign Kraptsov and Singler. http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/Detroit.htm I could see them using the partial MLE for SK (3 years is new info)... but we should hold rights for Singler and could sign him without spending any exceptions... normally storyteller is one of the more current and reliable salary sources. Tahoe 08-28-2012, 03:07 PM Ouch! http://www.freep.com/article/20120827/SPORTS03/120827075/detroit-pistons-cbs-offseason-grade?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Detroit Pistons Tahoe 08-28-2012, 03:15 PM ^ I was going to cancel Direct TV's NBA package and then after Drummond was drafted I thought I'd keep it, but after reading that fucktard's piece, I may cancel again. I think/hope the writer is wrong though. Timone 08-28-2012, 03:38 PM Just another armchair GM talking shit. Smh. Keep throwin' stones at the castle, haters. Vinny 08-28-2012, 09:47 PM ^ I was going to cancel Direct TV's NBA package and then after Drummond was drafted I thought I'd keep it, but after reading that fucktard's piece, I may cancel again. I think/hope the writer is wrong though. Keep toeing that company line. SMH>. Timone 08-28-2012, 10:18 PM So you're going to cancel because of some fucktard who you think is wrong? TAHOE'D!!!! Uncle Mxy 08-29-2012, 11:40 AM Ben Golliver was the asshat who ranked the Pistons the worst team in the NBA last year. The dude is pissed that we don't tank from day 1. Fuck him and his bullshit. Tahoe 08-29-2012, 09:42 PM Keep toeing that company line. SMH>. OUCH! Tahoe 08-29-2012, 09:42 PM So you're going to cancel because of some fucktard who you think is wrong? TAHOE'D!!!! No Uncle Mxy 09-09-2012, 06:58 PM I can run a mile just about as fast as Maxiell -- wow! For the third straight summer, Maxiell is working out in Dallas with trainer Kenneth Roberson, who once counted Karl Malone among his clients, with heavy emphasis on track work – everything from a 7:15 mile followed by six consecutive 100-yard sprints. http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/truebluepistons_120905.html Pharaoh 09-12-2012, 02:29 AM Will Mad Max start with Monroe? I'm guessing we start Monroe, Maxiell, Prince, Stuckey and Knight with Jerebko, Maggette, Bynum the first 3 off the bench In an ideal world Daye and Drummond would play big minutes but I dont see that happening We're in a holding pattern it seems... another season of marking time until Joe tries to make a splash via free agency or trade Uncle Mxy 09-17-2012, 08:47 PM Will Mad Max start with Monroe? The Pistons make starting positions the old fashioned way -- they EARN it: http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/truebluepistons_120914.html Uncle Mxy 09-21-2012, 07:22 AM I didn't know Stuckey had two kids. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120920/SPORTS0102/209200483 Glenn 10-03-2012, 09:28 AM Terry Foster: Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva says this season will be different Probably worthy of a new thread, but oh well. Pharaoh 10-03-2012, 10:02 AM Different how? He'll actually be healthy enough to get benched for poor play? Or different in that he'll provide some type of presence on the offensive end? IF he plays a lot of minutes that takes time away from Jerebko, Daye and Drummond. No one wants that, do they? We really need to trade some of these past it veterans. Clean up the books a little and let the kids play :) Kstat 10-03-2012, 01:54 PM Best case scenario would be CV has a fantastic season as a reserve and gives himself trade value to a contender looking to add scoring punch off of their bench. In no way does he need to be on this team longer than another season anyway, but it would allow the Pistons to save their amnesty clause for someone else. Glenn 10-03-2012, 05:57 PM In no way does he need to be on this team longer than another season anyway, but it would allow the Pistons to save their amnesty clause for someone else. Who else would qualify as a better amnesty candidate? Kstat 10-03-2012, 06:03 PM I was thinking Maxiell...but no, he doesn't apply. Its CV or nobody shags 10-03-2012, 07:11 PM Who else would qualify as a better amnesty candidate? Monroe's the only other person on the Piston roster who can be amnestied. KStat's right, it's Villanueva or no one. shags 10-03-2012, 07:16 PM Different how? He'll actually be healthy enough to get benched for poor play? We really need to trade some of these past it veterans. Clean up the books a little and let the kids play :) I wouldn't mind if he got minutes ahead of Daye, if he's better. In retrospect, it was a mistake to pick up Daye's 4th year option. Glenn 10-03-2012, 07:35 PM I was figuring that most of the other contracts on our books were signed after the cutoff period. Using amnesty on CV was, and still is (when we can again) the way to go. shags 10-03-2012, 07:54 PM I was figuring that most of the other contracts on our books were signed after the cutoff period. Using amnesty on CV was, and still is (when we can again) the way to go. Yup. The interesting thing is there's only 41 players in the entire league who can be amnestied. Here's the list, per Marc Stein. And the Hornets are the only team (thus far) who did not use their amnesty option. http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/47965/the-steep-price-of-amnesty Pharaoh 10-04-2012, 08:45 AM Of all the names on the list here are my possibles: CHA = Tyrus Thomas - played well once - must have been a contract season. They should use it on him MIL = Drew Gooden - horrible contract at the time, clear it while you can OKC = Thabo Sefolosha - might be a luxury they can't afford SAC = John Salmons - would have picked Garcia but apparently he's well liked in the locker room and I don't want to ruin their vibe :) TOR = Linas Kleiza - or possibly Amir but I think he's done alright with the Craptors The only guy on this list that I'd even be remotely interested in would be Thabo. And we'll have plenty of cap space next July to make a play for anyone released... here's hoping Memphis amnesty Rudy Gay Though do we really want to see the headline "Pistons get Gay!" |
