Reports: Tigers to sign Prince Fielder (http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7498284/detroit-tigers-reportedly-land-prince-fielder-214m-offer?eleven=twelve)

The Detroit Tigers and free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder agreed to a nine-year deal worth $214 million, according to multiple reports.

Fielder
The 27-year-old Fielder made $15.55 million last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, including a $50,000 bonus for starting the All-Star Game, after signing a record single-year deal for an arbitration-eligible player last January.

He hit .299 with 38 homers and 120 RBIs as the Brewers won the NL Central for their first division title since 1982, when they were still in the AL.

A first-round pick by the Brewers in 2002, Fielder became the youngest player in big league history to hit 50 homers in a season when he did it in 2007, and he's appeared in all but one of Milwaukee's games over the last three years.

He is a career .282 hitter with 230 homers and 656 RBIs.

Holy. shit.

The Comerica Prince doesn't have the same ring to it that The Palace Prince does.

That's amazing. I can understand the old man ponying up that kind of dough. He really wants a World Series before he goes.

I love the euphemisms being thrown out about Fielder in the articles I've read: big, robust and beefy among others.

Now can we get them both to drop weight and improve their fielding so we could have them and VMART in the lineup when he gets back?

Glenn
01-24-2012, 05:48 PM
Knobler says Miggy has confirmed that he's shifting to 3B.

Had some leftover Caesars from the weekend in the fridge (deep dish, sausage).

Just popped it back in the oven and OMG...

@GreggHenson
The bitter taste of the ALCS fuel Illitch to do this.

I know that you guys were upset with me at the time, but I had a bigger plan in mind.

YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!!

We are going to need to sign a wiz of a backup shortstop if Miggy and Peralta are going to share the left side of the infield.

Negative Nancy, lol.

I was actually looking forward to seeing how excited about this you were going to be, and I got... that. Ha!

Vinny
01-24-2012, 09:56 PM
Oh I am super excited, haha, just didn't post it, was busy arguing with my Chicago fan hater friends on email....

Skipped right past it on here. I'm not trying to be negative, I was just thinking about how it'll likely work and I imagine it will involve a lot of late inning switches for defensive purposes. I'm thinking they both get maybe 80 games at first, Prince 80 at DH, Migs 45 at third and 35 at DH?

When Victor gets back he might go back to catching 35 games a year if they can pull it off with Migs picking up 30 more games at 3rd if he can handle it?

couldnt be more pumped. i remember a couple years ago when when i was coming up with trade ideas sending jacob turner to the brewers for prince (many mocked him). unfortunately that thread seems to have been lost. the world's loss, really. after we signed victor i was 100% certain that ship had sailed (even joked with my dad the night before we signed prince we should offer him a 1 year deal).

mike illitch? he's the man

also, sucks we have to wait a year for the fully operational battle station (assuming victor ever makes it back), but i expect prince to be marginally better than victor, but the pitching staff to be much better than last (maybe not JV). the real question mark to me is how avila, boesch, and jackson play.

im 100% getting mlb network this year. i'd pay anything.
