#Tigers announce Victor Martinez has suffered torn ACL. Surgery would likely sideline him for the season.

Dombrowski said Martinez suffered the injury late last week when his right foot slipped during a sliding drill and his left knee buckled. The DH told the Tigers it was twisted, but an MRI Monday disclosed the torn ACL.

@DKnobler
Tigers say Victor Martinez had microfracture surgery on knee, in preparation for ACL surgery in 6-8 weeks. Out for the year.

Didn't he just have a 2nd surgery like a week ago... how is he gonna play this year?

Timone

The key words are "possible" and "late."

It is now possible that designated hitter Victor Martinez will play late this season. Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand gave that assessment after the club announced Wednesday that Martinez doesn't need the reconstructive surgery on his left knee that was scheduled for last week.

Rand said Martinez "is very excited. ... There is at least a glimmer of hope he might rejoin us late."

Martinez continues on a recovery of at least seven months from microfracture surgery on his knee, performed in late January shortly after he was injured in an off-season workout. The seven-month mark in his recovery arrives in late August. That is the earliest he could play, Rand said.

The last I heard was about the same since he hurt it...if we make the playoffs, he can prolly get some AB's.

If we had him this year, we'd be saying Chicago who?

According to yesterday's broadcast, Leyland said he doesn't see it happening.

TRANSLATION: He'll be in the lineup sometime next week. Championship!
