This is Jesus Rodney, and you've been a very naughty boy. I want you to think about what you've done Rodney, and from now on, STOP PLAYING WITH YOURSELF.

Anyone else remember hearing that some team in China wanted Rodney Stuckey? I wonder if that's still a possibility. It might be holding up the negotiation.

From Mlive:

As a restricted free agent, Stuckey is free to sign with any team, but the Pistons maintain the right to match any offer sheet. It's long been assumed Detroit would keep the point guard in the fold. Asked if he had a dollar amount in mind where he wouldn't be comfortable matching Dumars extended his arm up high and said, "There's always a number, but it's way up there."

don't know about you guys, but i'm terrified. i think we should part ways with stuckey but dumars sounds like he'll pay whatever it takes to keep him. would he really get that big of an offer from another team as a RFA?

thats the problem i doubt any good young bigman is available in return for Stuck

But I agree that until the account is technically "verified" that it's always possible that it's fake.

Stuckey wants 10 mil a year.

http://www.freep.com/comments/article/20111212/SPORTS03/112120450/Vince-Ellis-Sticking-points-keep-Rodney-Stuckey-and-Pistons-apart

i am scared Joe D might pay him something close to that, 7 - 8 max, and i got a feeling even thats too much, he will never become a starting PG, he might be above average at SG, but nothing special

Pharaoh

I was thinking a starting salary of $6 million

Which means he'll probably get a starting salary of $8 million

How the fuck are these lesser players worth $8-10 mil per season?

No wonder the owners wanted the lockout. The vast majority of them are fucking idiots.

Glenn
12-12-2011, 09:06 AM
I remember when I thought David Lee getting $10m was insane. Now jagoffs like Stuckey think they deserve it. LOL.

I wouldn't have minded if he got Tayshaun's contract.

A part of me really hopes that Brandon Knight is the real deal and we can just trade Stucknut's ass.

When scrubs like Marcus Thornton get 8million per and aren't considered top 2 players on their team (or as *versatile* as Stuck is), the market value is set too damn high.

Thornton got his contract because he plays for a team that needed to reach the minimum payroll requirement in the new CBA. I'd slap him if he pulled that out during negotiation.

I guess you're right. Since he's a RFA that he can't really use market value to his advantage. He can only threaten to go elsewhere at any price if other teams offer him.

Jamal Crawford offered 10 over 2 years should help establish Stuckey's value. I almost consider them equivalent players.

Yea that does bring RS back to the real world...
What about his health... if he collapses again is that it for him?

Glenn
12-13-2011, 04:36 PM
So if Stuckey takes the 1-year qualifying offer, the Pistons pretty much HAVE TO trade him at some point, right?

They're not going to let him walk for nothing, I assume.

I'm hoping that he doesn't even take the QO. I hope he signs with some team in Europe or China or something. I doubt it happens, but it'd be nice to never even hear his name again.

I keep checking all the typical b-ball sites hoping for some news. The anticipation is pretty high. This deal basically makes or breaks the team to me. If Stuck is around, the team won't be worth watching and also Knight will not be developed well.

Pharaoh

The problem with Stuckey is... numerous lol

Handle needs work, jumper needs work, range needs work, BBall IQ needs work...

The guy is probably best suited to a 6th Man role... remember his rookie season? We just don't have the horses to put him in that spot...

or do we?

Assuming BG and Knight start Stuckey is first guard off the bench and can play SG or PG... he can also defend reasonable well.

Maybe that will see him perform better?

Koolaid

In Stuck's rookie season he shot a pitiful .401 and didn't really do anything better than he'd do later.

I know it seems like he was a better player, I know I liked him back then. The reality is he was garbage then too though. It just seems like he was better because we had hope in his potential, and the same problems didn't repeat themselves over and fucking over again yet.

Also I really doubt Stuckey would except a bench role in Detroit. He's like the opposite of Darko. Darko never got a chance in Detroit, Stuckey never had to earn it. Both cases were absolutes and both cases were wrong. Now, both players will be fucked up from it.

mercury

He has played well at SG (including shooting)... when he's not asked to think like a PG his game comes natural.
Would at least like to see some more PT at the 2 before saying he can't do it.

DrRay11
12-14-2011, 07:56 AM
He would be a decent bench player, IMO... just not worth 5+ million a year or a starting spot, especially if he's got an ego that he must start

Pharaoh
12-14-2011, 08:33 AM
I think as a rookie he just played. He didn't have to worry about much because we had Ben, Sheed, Tay, Rip and Billups on the floor when it mattered.

Then we became a shit team and he was handed the starting PG job... the only problem being he's not a PG and never will be. He can play some PG but that's it.

Now that we're looking to make something of this team again (I hope) Stuckey needs to be used in a role that he can actually perform... and enjoy. He can come off the bench as a combo gaurd, get 25-30 minutes per game and just play his natural game.

Knight should run the show when it matters, BG should be on the floor when it matters and so should Prince.

Stuckey? He can watch from the sidelines, confident that regardless of the result he played his role extremely well... like Will Bynum does!

Bynum is the fucking poster child for all players that think they need to start and/or get big minutes to make a difference. Bynum does his job exceptionally well most of the time and we're very lucky to have a guy like him

Knight shows signs to handle starting PG right away, in this case we dont really need Stuckey anymore...also you can't improve basketball IQ, he is just not the smartest player in the world, he will regress fast when his athleticism will start to decrease. If the price is right keep him, otherwise try to get some value back in sign n trade, last option give him QO, see if he fits in with Knight/Gordon

Just filed to ESPN: Pistons & restricted FA Rodney Stuckey at an impasse. Stuckey balking at Pistons' 5 year, $40-45 million offer

Pistons comp for Stuckey is Mike Conley, who got a 5 year, $40 M extension from Grizzlies in Nov.

Stuckey's people threatening to take Pistons' 1 year qualifying offer. If they do, he's an unrestricted FA in summer of 2012.

Stuckey's qualifying offer is for $3,868,443. If he signs it, big pay cut this year from Pistons offer.

Stuckey's reps have contacted a couple of teams about sign-and-trades. Very unlikely Pistons will agree to one. They want to keep him.

ugh, i dont get it, if there is a good sign n trade out there do it, Stuckey is nothing special...there is no way he should get more than 5/40, IF he wants more than that, he should sign the QO and prove under the new coach he is worth 10 mil a year...thats really no threat at all in my opinion

lospistones
12-14-2011, 12:34 PM
5/45 is more than fair. 5/40 is what I expected we'd offer and 5/50 is what I anticipated he'd want.

I would hate to see him walk for less next season just to spite the front office.

Dery says the offer is bogus, didn't happen. Starting to sound like Stuckey's new agent fed this to Chad Ford to use him as a mouthpiece.

If that's true then his agent is fucking retarded. Making your player look like an egotistical selfish prima donna isn't a good thing. Pistons fans are already fed up with the guy. Frankly, I have a hard time believing anybody not named Stuckey could be that dumb.

there's no way on earth he's worth that kind of coin....and he thinks he's worth more.....? wow- see what paying BG $55 bajillion does? it inflates everyone on the team's expectations.

i would try hard to sign and trade him or let him walk next year.

besides, it sounds like knight is developing really nicely. i want him to get major minutes this year.
