Bought out, not amnestied.

Nice find Glan... well let the Stuckey at SG era begin.
Now we just need to am-nasty one of our 3 backup PFs

Doesn't make sense to have Gordon on the bench either though. It would be much better to extend Stuck and then trade him for a big. Knight/BG/Prince/Monroe/?.

Also I'm not as pleased as most seem to be about the buyout. The Pistons would've had to pay all of his salary if they used the amnesty, and this cheaper, but now he's still eating cap space. I'd rather have the cap space then save whatever they saved by buying him out. It seems like it was more about being cheap. I have no faith in the amnesty being used elsewhere either. I'm not sure where the optimistic outlook is coming from. Most people gave up on the Pistons, the ones who didn't are easily pleased.

I don't disagree with you Kool. We basically just bought out a very servicable player one year away from having a big expiring contract. Doesn't necessarliy send the signal that we're ready to get aggressive in the trade market.

I wonder how much input Frank has had on these moves.

It makes zero sense to buy out Rip

We've got an amnesty clause waiting to be used - use that on a long term contract and keep the shorter ones as trade pieces.

Buying out Rip and re-signing Prince is just fucking stupid on so many levels

well i have to say i'm shocked. and i have to think that we bought him out for significantly less than the $25 million or whatever he has left on his deal. it will save us a lot of money and get rid of a player who has worn out his welcome, but.....still don't understand why we did this, and why now.

The assumption has to be that the differences were irreconcilable in some way we don't know but really? As much as Rip wasn't exactly a "plus" defender, do we even have a guard over 6'2" now? What a mess.

It would make sense if the amnesty is used as well. If CV is amnestied then I'd be happy. I'm just not counting on good things happening. I'd ditch Villanueva because Stuckey got flipped for someone in his spot. Like a Stuck and a first for Josh Smith deal.

Knight/Bynum
Gordon/ ?
Prince/ Daye
Smith/JJ
Monroe/Big Ben

A dude can dream right?

The only thing that makes zero sense to me is cutting Terrico White. I see no advantage to the move.

2 years too late, best for both parties, Pistons keep amnesty, save some money, RIP can sign with Chicago, win another chip

Holy shit, he took an $8m buyout. (per Goodwill)

Leaving $14 million on the table at age 33? Now THAT's buffoonery.

so i'm confused- does his entire original salary still count against the cap? that's what i assumed but i read an article that made it seem as if only the buyout amount counts against the cap. (IOW, $4 mil this year and 4mil next year.)

If that number is correct, Joe D is a genius and/or miracle worker. I wonder what we'll do with that money...

great, great buyout, Dumars best move like forever ( i am quite sure, the new guys Gores hired had to do something with that)

Initially, I assumed a buyout for $15-20 million.

Seeing that buyout number has changed my mind about how I feel about the deal.

Even if Rip signs for $10 million for 2 years with Chicago, he's still leaving $4 million on the table.
I just don't get that.

Goes to show how miserable he was last year. But for someone bitching at the ref about a tech he got saying..."you just cost me 2 thousand dollars" or something, you'd think he be more concerned with 7 figure amounts.

Vinny

If he sat in Detroit for 2 years and hardly played he's never get another contract so i assume he's thinking he can rebuild his image and get one last decent deal.

Regardless, I actually have alot of respect for him taking it, shows he still wants to play.

@LarryLage: #Pistons will clear $8 million in cap space with buyout, but it's $4 million this season and $4 million next yr

Um, no so fast, my friend?

Glenn

I didn't think buyouts could create cap space. Is this new?

Was the buyout for $11 million?

That's what I was alluding to in post #21 (Lage's info vs. Goodwill's).

It seems that Vincent thought that we bought him out for $8m, but it sounds like he took $8m less.

Regardless of the price Rip is gone... and that's a good thing.

Pity we kept Prince.

Monroe/Big Ben (?)
Jerebko/Maxiell/Nova
Prince/Daye
BG/Stuckey
Knight/Bynum

It's craptacular...

Can't wait for the 2012 Draft... only 66 games to go

this team might be good enough for the playoffs, in the east you never know :P
