depending on who you talk to, this is turning into an epidemic in chicago. apparently, local (or, semi-local) youths are forming flashmobs (coordinated over social media) and performing spontaneous acts of violence, namely jumping dudes 20 on 1.

pretty upsetting to me, since i live in the goldcoast / streeterville area, which is where they seem to keep being reported (north and oak st beaches), and am definitely a prime target since i jog along them often times around 6 or so.

lots of talk going on. the rumor a week ago was that when north beach was closed due to heat (at 6pm?) on memorial day, the real reason was gang violence. also, you would not believe how openly people are saying fairly racial things.

peeps be talking about laxing up the gun laws. im all in favor of the strictest laws on guns, but this news really does have me thinking. personally, i say just open up a gang squad that knocks skulls around damn near indiscriminantly.

also, this happened to one of my friends in ann arbor years ago. we were outside playing beer pong on front lawn and before you knew it, like 10 (black) dudes were beating on this one dude.

the difficulty is that the people who do this are always juveniles. big enough to hurt people, but the courts wont do anything.

When they did this in Detroit and LA in the past, all it did was add an out of control cop problem on top of a gang/crime problem.

eventually, gang squad allegedly was out of control. but detroit, for all its problems, didnt have gang problems.
