clearly, osu is hoping this contains the damage, but sounds like the AD might be quite complicit as well.

the fact that OSU was already in probation due to the bb team, i could see the penalties being so bad that a guy like urban wouldnt even want to be there for a few years.

osu already was on probation. the stuff coming out, other than the cover up, really doesnt seem that bad to this guy. but since osu will be considered a repeat offender, gotta think the penalties are at USC levels, or beyond.

also, the SI story was a huge let down. to me, no body = no story.

OSU was on probation for basketball. It's still unclear to me if there can be crossover aggravating factors. If they do their best to pin this on TP and JT, the athletic director and football program may be spared.

im pretty certain programs (ie the basketball team) dont go on probation, the dep. does. part of the reason stretch gate was a little dicey.

one thing i am shocked by in all this is that i've seen lots of talking heads say tressell's mistake was ever seeing the original whistle blowing email, and that he should have insulated himself better. people have mocked his obviously intentional ignorance, but i've seen guys (think lou holtz but maybe not) pretty much say thats the way big coaches have to and are supposed to act.

i have little doubt that ^ is more or less true, and this could really happen at any school. the coverup is where the problem is, and had tressell operated per coaching norm, he would still be coach. not that he should have disciplined or not played the players, but he just should have not known about their wrongdoing.

Ohio State University announced Friday it is vacating all 10 of its victories from the 2010 football season and placing itself on two years' probation in the wake of a scandal that cost coach Jim Tressel his job.

Tressel resigned under pressure after it was revealed he had lied to NCAA officials investigating allegations that Ohio State players had received special benefits from local businesses in Columbus.

Mike Vrabel retired from the NFL to take an assistant job at tO$U. Great move, since the entire staff likely gets blown out of there 2-3 days after the season ends.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Urban Meyer's first Ohio State team won't be bowl-bound.

The NCAA hit Ohio State with a one-year bowl ban and other penalties on Tuesday for a scandal that involved eight players taking a total of $14,000 in cash and tattoos in exchange for jerseys, rings and other Buckeyes memorabilia. Tipped to the violations, then-coach Jim Tressel failed to speak up.

The university had previously offered to vacate the 2010 season, return bowl money, go on two years of NCAA probation and use five fewer football scholarships over the next three years.

But the NCAA countered with a bowl ban in Meyer's first year as head coach in 2012, further reduced the number of scholarships and tacked on a year of probation.
