I know that Porcello pitched a good game but his fastball looked slow. Didn't his fastball used to be 93-95 mph? I checked his scouting report and it listed a mid-90's fastball. In watching the game, I saw only one pitch even hit 91. All of his other fastballs were 87-90. That would explain his rough outings if he is down on velocity but it wasn't mentioned during the game (that I heard). Anyone?

He usually works at 90-91 so it may be down a little bit. Hopefully it's just his arm getting stretched out still. He's topped out at 94-95 in the past but never really worked there before.

He's really gotta work on spotting his curve and change if he ever wants to strike anybody out, which he'll need to do to get better.

Scherzer, Coke and Porcello's starts are all encouraging but I don't want to read into them too much since the A's aren't exactly murderer's row out there.
