Dems RUNNING AWAY in Indiana also.

Here's the bill they are afraid to vote on. lol

Right to work. Makes it a Class A misdemeanor for an employer to require an individual to: (1) become or remain a member of a labor organization; (2) pay dues, fees, or other charges to a labor organization; or (3) pay to a charity or another third party an amount that represents dues, fees, or other charges required of members of a labor organization; as a condition of employment or continuation of employment. Establishes a separate private right of action for violations or threatened violations. Exempts individuals employed in the construction industry, employed by the United States, or subject to the federal Railway Labor Act.

They're not afraid of voting on anything, and I think you know that. They are using any tactic at their disposal to prevent this bill from coming up for a vote. The Kochs have a 5-state plan in which collective bargaining rights would be gutted in the Midwest, and Wisconsin and Indiana are two of those states.

More on the hypocrisy ... and then there's the way they described the mostly white crowds in Wisconsin vs the mostly white crowds of the Tea Party.

The Tea Party peeps are racists and the Wisconsin crowds 'show democracy at work'.

Pretty amazing.

This Kock thing that the left dreamed up and was put out on Puffington Post, Swami?, is cuz the left can't have it be the powerful unions versus the hardworking taxpayers of the country, so they had to come up with something (and what better than a Corporation) to go up against.

It really does come down to the Unions trying to get more money out of the paychecks of hardworking Americans.

Just watched Scott Walker on Meet the Press. There was one interesting bit where he was asked why there are exceptions for police and firefighters in his bill. In an accidentally moment of honesty his answer, "I'm afraid they might strike if I messed with them" revealed exactly what it is he respects. That's a clear reminder that the fundamentals of unions haven't changed--hang together or hang seperately.

It'll be interesting to see if there's enough solidarity left in unions for the ones that have leverage to defend the ones that don't. If the unions that got exceptions just say "fuck y'all I got mine" it's game over for all of them down the road.

Mitch Daniels, who ended public unions a few years back, says that state services are much better. He said he used to have to go through a month of decision makers just to move a copy machine 20 feet with the Unions. Now he can combine agencies, divide agencies and now services are provided much much quicker.

Of course it's "much better" from a management perspective. There's hardly a boss alive who doesn't prefer a "my way or the highway" setup.

How do you know that the efficiency improvements had anything to do with the lack of unions versus, say, technology advances?

For that matter, what happens when technology advances mean you can do the same thing with less workers?

Daniels is a Repub so I know Dems won't believe him, but from what I remember him saying (and I think he was asked that question) was that there were no dramatic roll outs of technology that would have made the reduction in time it took to deliver services that they saw.

Also, isn't Indiana's budget in line now? And I don't think peeps need to worry about public sector workers that are not unionized. There are states that don't have them and guess what? ...the state still employs them. Don't worry. Don't fear change. Lean forward. :)

There was one crew dude that was unionized and he would go back and forth.

But ftr, public works projects cost more cuz they're prevailing. The public pays prolly twice for prevailing. Same work; same timetable to get the work done, but at least twice the cost. Add unions on top of that and the work slows down and the pay goes up. Fuck public works.

And then DrRay, the some of these public employess can retire and start drawing on their pensions at 41 years old. So the taxpayers will be paying them for a long, long time.

And don't forget the way they base the pensions, in some cases, on the last year they were employed pay. They save up their vacay, sick and any overtime pay and take it all the last year and inflate their final years pay by 2 times. Some of them I've poster here was even more.

So then they take 75% of their final years pay (that they've inflated by 2 times) and walk getting hard working middle income peeps to pay their way the rest of their life. Plus they get HC in a lot of cases totally paid for by the taxpayer.

Its ridiculous.

Uncle Mxy
03-11-2011, 05:12 AM
Most of the pensions I've seen are based on either the base pay or an average of the last 3-5 years of total pay, so vacation/sick/OT will have less of an effect on things. Often, the gaming of the system involves jacking up the base pay because they're going to retire, or as an incentive plan to retire (pay them a little more now to get them out the door, retirement pay is someone else's problem). Folks in such positions save vacation/sick/OT days for when their base pay will be at its highest, because the payout for those is relative to the base pay at the time. One big difference is that, in the private sector, vacation is seen as a liability on the books. There's often caps on maximum vacation and such so people don't accumulate forever. In the public sector, unpaid-out vacation isn't a hit on the corporate bottom line, and some high-stress public positions will fight tooth and nail about not letting you accumulate off time over years. In some cases, the public sector job expertise is in scarce enough supply where folks can only take vacations at set times, so forcing them into "use it or lose it" means screwing yourself when you really need them.

Uncle Mxy
