View Full Version : ALPACALYPSE 2010/2011 (Also featuring OGT: Nuclear Distruction 2017) Glenn 01-07-2010, 08:49 AM averted. Glenn 01-07-2010, 08:50 AM I blame Kstat, btw. He obviously didn't want anyone posting anything negative about the Pistons after another loss. Vinny 01-07-2010, 03:23 PM True Story: When the site went down last night I hadn't been paying much attention to the game and the first thing that popped into my head when it wouldn't load was that the Pistons must have won 105-87. UxKa 01-07-2010, 07:13 PM I'm on another forum that got hacked and deleted a couple weeks ago. That was the first thing that I thought of. Zekyl 01-10-2010, 09:41 PM I'm on another forum Go......just go. Glenn 02-26-2010, 03:59 PM Updates here: https://twitter.com/WTFDetroit If you don't use Twitter, shame on you, and now is the time to start. Matt 02-26-2010, 05:34 PM Hi all, here's what happened: Our forum software caused a spike in server resources which caused our webhost to temporarily block our account. We've worked with them to re-enable our account and we've applied a bunch of security and software patches/updates. We hope that this won't happen again and we'll continue looking at ways to improve. Glenn 02-26-2010, 05:39 PM Matt for ROY! Tahoe 02-26-2010, 05:40 PM hacker type stuff? Matt 02-26-2010, 05:45 PM hacker type stuff? no, i think it was more software gone wild sort of thing. the security updates were done since we were updating anyways. Uncle Mxy 02-26-2010, 06:11 PM Our forum software caused a spike in server resources which caused our webhost to temporarily block our account. What server resources? Was it a bandwidth thing, or exploding disk space, or spinning CPU usage, or what? Was the bug ever identified, or was it just easier to upgrade and see if it fixed? geerussell 02-26-2010, 06:20 PM My first thought was that internecine warfare in the syndicate had left them all dead. Glad I was wrong and welcome back. DennyMcLain 02-26-2010, 06:53 PM no, i think it was more software gone wild sort of thing. the security updates were done since we were updating anyways. Does this mean Bukdow is now gone? UxKa 02-26-2010, 07:17 PM Does this mean Bukdow is now gone? I think it just means you don't have to worry about his wedge. DennyMcLain 02-26-2010, 11:24 PM Glan=Dad Type Matt=Cyber Type Glenn 01-09-2011, 08:54 PM Welcome back, everyone. Sorry about the site issues, gents. There's really no reason to go into a lengthy explanation other than to say we got hosed by the webhost when they moved our database to a "better" server without making a backup, first. I think you can figure out the rest. We'll be looking into daily, automatic backups, ASAP. Special thanks to Matt & MOLA1 for putting up with my constant Twitter DMs. If the site ever has issues again, head to the WTFDetroit Twitter feed for updates. First thing that you'll probably notice is that the database that we used to restore the site is from April 3, 2010, it's the most recent we have, sorry. Let us know if you discover any issues, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we put things back together. Glenn 01-09-2011, 08:57 PM Holy time machine / deja vu. RegicideGreg 01-09-2011, 09:00 PM Good to be back up Glenn 01-09-2011, 09:02 PM And the server performance should be improved now, lol. Glenn 01-09-2011, 09:04 PM 2010/2011 RegicideGreg 01-09-2011, 11:35 PM When should I expect this site to go down again? It's gone down what 3 times since we started back in 05 Tahoe 01-10-2011, 12:03 AM I'm able to view about 3 pages and then it times out. Maybe the db wasn't completely decompressed and its waiting for files to open? Or is the db waiting for memory allocation? Its happened about 5 times so far. Maybe its on my end, but thought I'd mention it. Glenn 05-23-2011, 09:29 AM Better today for you guys? Need to know if I can call off the dogs. Vinny 05-23-2011, 07:17 PM Still kind of spotty for me. My internet's bunk in general though but right now most other sites are no problem except for here. UxKa 05-23-2011, 07:34 PM I've set up about 20 servers in the last month, so if you guys need a hand.... Glenn 05-23-2011, 08:10 PM Will definitely let you know if we need a hand with the job. Thanks! Timone 05-23-2011, 08:22 PM Glan beat me to it UxKa 05-23-2011, 09:04 PM I know... I only point that out every couple months lol Glenn 05-23-2011, 10:01 PM I'd give you the keys if I knew how to. Alls I know how to do is send panicky emails and twitter DMs around. UxKa 05-23-2011, 11:33 PM Just offering to help if it's needed ;) Glenn 05-26-2011, 11:39 AM I complained and it seems to be working better now, lmk if you are seeing similar things. Vinny 05-26-2011, 04:11 PM "They're still shitty!" No improvement for me. Glenn 05-27-2011, 10:05 AM So we're on a shared server, and the host is offering/suggesting to migrate us over to another that has more available resources. I reminded them of what happened last time they migrated our data and they understand that we wouldn't want to experience that again, so they say they are going to try to convince some of the other clients on the same server to migrate off of ours. Moving us over would be the quickest solution, but we know that there is risk involved. So that's where we are. DrRay11 05-27-2011, 09:39 PM what's been going on? I've been working late all week (first week, lots to learn) Glenn 05-28-2011, 07:02 AM painfully slow page loads at times, lots of times Timone 05-28-2011, 10:58 AM It was unbearable. UxKa 05-28-2011, 12:21 PM So we're on a shared server, and the host is offering/suggesting to migrate us over to another that has more available resources. I reminded them of what happened last time they migrated our data and they understand that we wouldn't want to experience that again, so they say they are going to try to convince some of the other clients on the same server to migrate off of ours. Moving us over would be the quickest solution, but we know that there is risk involved. So that's where we are. Who is the host, if you don't mind? I recently migrated my site off a shared host to a VPS. It's still technically shared of course, but there's a much better guarantee for server resources that way. Same company, and the site is much faster (I also migrated to an entirely different programming language too, so that could have something to do with it lol). I pay a whopping $12/mo for a server that can fly through gigs of db data in hundredths of a second. I've been messing with Amazon's EC2 a lot lately too - if you pay up front for a 3 year plan on a reserved instance, you can get some ridiculously cheap servers that are pretty quick from my testing. I don't know what your plan looks like now, but for about $10/mo on EC2 you can run a dedicated PHP server and a dedicated SQL server. Amazon's S3 storage is also stupid cheap, and then you don't have to worry about losing the db again. Just my quick thoughts, again ;) Vinny 05-29-2011, 12:32 PM It's at about 95% for me now. Great work Uxka!! Vinny 05-30-2011, 03:16 PM Back down to about a 3/10 Ux. I know it's a holiday and all so please just try to get it fixed by the morning. Vinny 05-30-2011, 08:48 PM It's much better Ux, thanks for the quick response~! UxKa 05-30-2011, 10:28 PM Yeah.... I have nothing to do with the site :neenerneener: Glenn 05-31-2011, 08:29 AM I have check the host machine out and improved resources for performance, so far this morning the sites I'm testing are responding just fine. If you have additional problems let us know as quickly as you can so we can try and duplicate the issue. Make sure you tell us if you are able to access the site and it is slow or not at all. A trace route is also nice to have if you are able to send in the results of that as well. Glenn 06-01-2011, 07:01 PM Okay, how do I send these fucks the trace route they are asking for? Is it as simple as just running it from DNStools or a similar site and copy/pasting/sending the results? Vinny 06-01-2011, 07:04 PM http://www.techtoolbox.com/systools/network (http://www.wtfdetroit.com/forums/www.google.com) Timone 06-01-2011, 07:11 PM Tech Talk Glenn 06-01-2011, 07:29 PM Thanks, Vinny, I'll check that out. I assume that things are still dragging most of the time for you guys, too? Tech Talk I'm bringing that back, just waiting for the right time. It's going to be epic. Vinny 06-01-2011, 07:36 PM It's been fine for me today, didn't check in until 6ish. Glenn 06-01-2011, 07:42 PM I just sent another complaint and suddenly things picked up. Hmm. UxKa 06-01-2011, 09:02 PM Seems fine to me. Trace route: Start > Run > cmd > tracert wtfdetroit.com UxKa 06-01-2011, 09:05 PM ROFL Final IP of trace route info: "receives about 18 unique visitors... per day" DrRay11 06-02-2011, 07:50 PM lolll Vinny 06-05-2011, 09:16 PM Am I the only one still having trouble? It was working fine earlier from a different connection but it still sucks at home. My tracerts just time out after I get to bluemilenetworks.com (I assume that's our host?). Glenn 06-05-2011, 09:20 PM Been great for me each time I've tried since Friday or so. Haven't been on much (for me) though. Timone 06-05-2011, 09:22 PM No problems here, but I also haven't been on here much for Glan either. Vinny 06-17-2011, 12:20 AM Been GOLD for a few days now. Thanks, Ux. UxKa 06-17-2011, 07:58 PM No problem. I took the trace route info and used it to push the traffic through my site, so I'm pretty sure that's where you're seeing the improvement. Timone 06-23-2011, 07:59 PM :'( Good thing I have Twitter to post stupid shit on UxKa 06-23-2011, 08:30 PM Ya, keep the stupid shit off WTF. We gots a reputation here. Glenn 09-24-2011, 05:39 PM WOOT Vinny 09-25-2011, 10:01 AM THANKS MATT! Uncle Mxy 09-26-2011, 08:21 AM What was going wrong? Glenn 09-26-2011, 09:32 AM We were testing different registration options in an attempt to improve the screening out of spammers and spambots. Matt found some other issues/problems along the way and we ended up with some dns issues and had to wait for the IP to re-propagate. Or something like that. Glenn 09-26-2011, 09:36 AM We should probably come up with a "Matt owns" emoticon. Timone 09-26-2011, 09:41 AM http://media.nj.com/realtimesports_impact/photo/lions-matthew-stafford-2d356a1aa4d34d12_large.jpg Vinny 01-29-2012, 06:46 PM I got some weird error message today, meant to copy it but I instinctively Refreshed and it was gone and back to normal. Just a heads up. Glenn 08-08-2017, 04:36 PM This might not be a drill, yg. Timone 08-08-2017, 09:41 PM We bringing back the SPORTSBOOK? |
