The Milwaukee Bucks waived guard Roko Ukic(notes) on Monday after he decided to forfeit the remaining money on his contract. Ukic was making $1.35 million this season with a player option for $1.45 million next season, a league source said. Ukic has appeared in only 13 games this season and hopes to join a team overseas. Ukic’s agent, Marc Cornstein, said his client will likely go play in Europe after he clears waivers.

The Golden State Warriors released forward-center Mikki Moore(notes) on Monday and have agreed to pay for the rest of his rehabilitation for a right heel injury that has him sidelined until at least April. An NBA source said the Warriors made the move so they could guarantee forward-center Chris Hunter’s(notes) contract for the rest of the season before Wednesday’s deadline. The Warriors were worried that if they cut Hunter in hopes of signing him to a 10-day contract later, he would be picked up off waivers by another team.

I'm surprised that Ukic is leaving the NBA altogether. If he wanted to get moved to a team to get more playing time, he has a good contract for that.

First trade of 2010: Nets get Chris Quinn, cash and 2012 second-rounder from Miami in exchange for heavily protected 2010 second-round pick

Basically, the Heat give this up for Alston, as they will sign him with Quinn's roster spot.

Allen Iverson's contract with the team will be guaranteed for the remainder of the season; per Sixers.com.

Darko Milicic appears headed toward a buyout with Knicks (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2010/01/08/2010-01-08_darko_appears_headed_for_eclipse.html)

The Knicks and Darko Milicic could be headed toward a buyout. Milicic, who has already stated that he plans to continue his career in Europe next season, was conspicuously missing from Thursday night’s game against the Bobcats. The 7-footer has become such an afterthought that the Knicks did not even bother to reveal that he did not show up for work. Milicic’s agent, Marc Cornstein, confirmed that his client was missing due to “personal reasons” and said that Milicic would rejoin the team today. Knicks president Donnie Walsh would not rule out the possibility that Milicic may not finish the season in New York but quickly added, “He practices hard and kept himself in shape. — NY Daily News

If he gets a buy out from the Knicks and clears waivers we should sign him for the rest of the season.

His NBA career could come full circle and he'd have one last chance to show and prove in the league (this assumes we'd even bother to play him)

Hornets trade Armstrong to Kings
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

The New Orleans Hornets have traded center Hilton Armstrong(notes) and cash to the Sacramento Kings in a salary-clearing move, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal removes Hilton’s $2.8 million salary from the Hornets’ payroll, leaving them only a little more than $500,000 over the luxury-tax threshold. The Kings will send the Hornets a future, conditional second-round pick.

Probably means Okafor is staying put.

The Kings have a lot of bigs now, I wonder if they'll be dealing Hawes.

Redd done for year. They are in the #8 spot. Could we give them RIP for Ridinour and KT?

It would allow Stuckey to play SG more and get us 12.7 mil in cap space next year.

It might be enough to make Redd opt out next year (or at least buyout his deal), and try to sign where the big names go.

Which former Piston said these words?

On the importance of home court advantage:

“Right. And as we seen last season during our run, the biggest thing that we had going was our building was incredible, home court was incredible for us. We didn’t lose a series until we didn’t have home court. We went up there and we stole home court back, but when we have our home court, you see how we play at home. Sometimes it’s disappointing that everybody doesn’t understand the importance of a Minnesota Timberwolves game, or a Sacramento Kings game or a Memphis Grizzlies game or a Clippers game, when they were struggling. They don’t know the importance of those games and they just feel like we can win them in the fourth quarter. That fourth quarter, the other team has confidence and now it’s a dogfight.

Hornets still need one more trade to get under tax threshold. Tax benefit of swapping Devin Brown for Gray is only savings of roughly $100K

Hornets still roughly $425,000 over tax line. Getting under gets you nearly $5 million. All non-tax teams collect such a check in the summer

Glenn
01-25-2010, 03:37 PM
That last part is a big reason why I doubt Joe makes (or is allowed to make) ANY trade that takes on more money this year.

Karen needs that $5m to make up for the attendance shortfall from this year.

right, i like Shams best, he is always up to date... i have no idea where he gets his information, but he's very accurate and has a good knowledge of CBA details...see contract details

Fabricio Oberto: Re-signed to a 3 year, $10.9 million contract in July 2007. Final year is only $1,900,000 guaranteed until July 1st 2009. Waived in June. Cap amount further reduced to the set off provision thing.

Ben Wallace: Signed a one year minimum salary contract in August 2009. Wallace is actually being paid $1,306,455, the minimum salary for a ten or more year veteran, but as his minimum salary contract is only for one year and he has more than three years of experience, the team is only billed an amount equal to the minimum salary of a two year vet. The league pays the rest.

Hornets trade Brown for draft pick

By Marc Stein
ESPN.com

The New Orleans Hornets have lined up the last move they need to make to get under the NBA's luxury-tax threshold.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the Hornets have reached a verbal agreement on a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers that will send reserve guard Bobby Brown to the Clippers for a conditional future second-round draft pick.

A trade call with the league office to formally approve the deal is scheduled for Tuesday morning, sources said.

The Hornets were roughly $425,000 over the league's $69.9 million tax threshold after Monday's deal with Chicago that sent guard Devin Brown to the Bulls for big man Aaron Gray.

Moving Brown's $736,420 salary gets New Orleans comfortably under the tax line, which will put the Hornets in line to receive a rebate approaching $5 million that is paid out to all non-tax teams during the summer.

The Hornets have made a series of tax-motivated trades to shed salary since last season, starting with the deal that sent Rasual Butler to the Clippers for a second-round pick in 2016. Hilton Armstrong was also dealt to Sacramento earlier this month for a 2016 second-rounder.

The Clippers, meanwhile, have capitalized on the Hornets' luxury-tax issues to fill another need in their rotation. Brown could compete for backup minutes at both point guard and shooting guard. The Clippers lost Sebastian Telfair for four to six weeks with a groin injury and Eric Gordon is dealing with a foot injury.

The trade would be a homecoming for Brown, who starred at L.A.'s Westchester High School and played collegiately at nearby Cal State Fullerton.

So all those little moves and Joe did't get involved in any of them?

New Orleans were desperate to move players and we didn't do squat.

I'm not saying those guys make any difference overall but if we managed to help them "acquire" a $5 million NBA check one would assume that's worth a pick of some kind.

Yet everyone seems to be giving them picks? WTF?
