And the comments aren't from morons either.

One dude mentioned the Knicks Plan B as Joe Johnson...

Very interesting.

Fourteen teams still owe a luxury-tax payment in July unless they can make moves before the Feb. 18 trading deadline to get under the tax threshold. The list of taxpayers:

TEAM TAX OWED
Lakers $21,430,778
Mavericks $17,891,714
Celtics $14,324,318
Knicks $14,107,734
Cavaliers $13,011,251
Magic $12,574,601
Spurs $10,185,572
Wizards $8,658,888
Nuggets $5,490,379
Suns $4,887,977
Jazz $4,858,225
Hornets $3,331,809
Heat $2,817,658
Rockets $2,611,747

Footnote No. 1: Atlanta has only 12 players on its roster after waiving Hunter and have until Jan. 19 to sign a 13th to at least a 10-day contract.

Footnote No. 2: With nearly $135 million in the tax pot, non-tax teams are on course to collect a $4.5 million payout in July.

Footnote No. 3: The Wizards will end up getting a tax rebate of nearly $74,000 per game for every game Gilbert Arenas is suspended but will not get that refund -- which could reach $3.7 million if Arenas is suspended for the remainder of the season -- until after luxury-tax bills are paid leaguewide in July. Orlando and Denver will likewise get rebates of nearly $820,000 and $200,000, respectively, when earlier league suspensions imposed on Rashard Lewis and J.R. Smith are factored in.

The ones that really stand out there to me are the Spurs, Wizards, Jazz and Hornets.

The Wiz, Jazz and Hornets almost certainly will try to make moves to get under, IMO.

Spurs are the interesting one.

Do they try to shed salary cause their moves haven't worked out or do they keep trying with what they have?

Either way they ARE done.

Congrats GD.

Can Okafor defend?

Okafur looked like absolute shit in the OT game. Was at the game with a friend of mine who is a big O fan (liked him in college too). We were talking about it all night.

Okafor is nothing more than a shot blocker right now. Not worth his salary at all.

I believe Okafor is so highly regarded on this board because he is the type of C we need now, and have used extremely well in the past.

He's the closest thing to Ben Wallace we're ever likely to get and on a team full of shooters (I didn't say they shoot well) he's the guy some people look at at and say,

"If we had Okafor at C he'd make up for us having a bunch of dude's who only wanna shoot and score"

I'm not saying Okafor is the best big man we could get with our assets but he certainly would provide some crucial things we lack - like a young guy that lives in the paint and doesn't wanna shoot a fucking 3 ever

I haven't seen him this year. If his offense is really that bad I don't want him for that price. We need a guy you can dump the ball into a few times and work off of in the post. We have too many jump shooters to add a guy that can't get some buckets inside.

I thought that part of his game was starting to develop finally, but that was last year and I haven't seen him at all this year. Not having cable is killing me.

Kid can't finish with the best setup man in the game on his team.

That's a problem that doesn't get fixed.

Pharaoh

Obviously he's got serious issues offensively.

And he doesn't appear to be the super stud defender some remember.

Which leaves us with a big problem - who does the board want as our future starting C (after Big Ben)?

PTBNL?

Miner?

We could use someonre that has a career 14pts (11pts this year)... shoots 52% and plays solid D.... as compared to Kwame and ol' man Ben

Why are we so picky?

Because if you add a guy like that for our expirings, that's it. This is your team for the next 3 years besides whatever we get in the draft.

And that's 3 years of 0 defense. Teams like the Suns are fun to watch, but we all know they're not winning the championship.

What does PTBNL mean and who or what is Miner?

"Player to be named later". In baseball you can not trade a person you have drafted within the last year, however you may complete a trade without including a player, then when his year of service with you is up, send him along to complete the deal.

Miner is a baseball player and inside joke with these kids.
