View Full Version : Rip + Kwame = Dalembert + Pick?

I'm just gonna throw this out there and see what people think.

Let's say we'd get their pick in 2010 (not sure if they owe a pick to anyone). Combined with our pick that should net us 2 decent prospects.

Dalembert's deal runs out when Tayshaun's does. Which means we can have another eventful off-season in 2011.

Rip goes home, as Joe likes to do. This opens up more minutes for Bynum off the bench.

And come July first 2011 we'd have the following dudes under contract:

C: Dual Rookies from the 2010 Draft (I can dream)
F: Nova, Maxiell, Wilcox
F: Daye
G: Gordon (rookie from 2011 Draft)
G: Stuckey, Bynum

And plenty of cap space to retain Jerebko and buy a great big man.

I know there's a lot of cats that will crusify any deals that involve Dalembert... but he is at least as good as Kwame... if you can squeeze a pick that is potential lotto then you should go for it... especially if it doesn't effect your cap long term while removing the log jam.

No problem with this deal.

I'm guessing most don't have a problem with the trade.

And since there is no arguement against the deal it's pointless to post?

Or maybe my trades suck to such an extent people just avoid them?

i am not a fan of capspace anymore, i'd rather trade RIP for some talent, but if its not possible this deal might be OK

I can totally see this deal happening, and it might be about the best we can do, unfortunately.

And I say that because what Sam would give us wouldn't be much different than what Ben Wallace gives us, his offense certainly wouldn't keep anyone honest. But as far as realistic deals go, yeah.

I say no way to this trade. Daly doen't relly help us and he has a shit contract. I would much rather take my chance trading Rip for an expiring using him in a package. If we get anoither big, he has to have some kind of post play, IMO.

Daly has a shit contract?

Yeah the dude is overpaid, but it would expire at the same time Tay's does.

Hello cap space again to finish the rebuild around BG, Nova, Bynum, Stuckey and our 3 current rooks

You bring a real good point here... most have considered Daly's deal to be a killer.... well that day has passed... it's actually a good contract now... as soon as July GM's will be knocking on the door looking to acquire that deal... since this isn't our year anyways I'm on board.

I guess it depends on whether you want to do something this off-season or next. I want us to do it sooner rather than later.

Regardless of his contract, he still gives us no post presence which is what this team really needs. His D and rebouning isn't much if any improvement over Ben's. If we trade Rip AND an expiring, I want a quality piece.

I also don't see Tay staying around if at all possible. We have too many quality youngs at the 3. Just my opinion.

Mick, we do get a quality piece in this trade.

We'd be getting their 2010 Draft pick - that draft is supposed to be loaded.

PLUS I don't see this team making the playoffs, so we're not throwing away a good season here. We'd end up in the Lotto and get our quality big with our own pick.

On Draft Night 2010 we'd be sitting there our Lotto pick and Philly's mid teen pick in a loaded Draft.

We'd also be sitting there knowing that we had 2 pretty large soon-to-be expiring contracts on the books.

Who knows what could happen then?

2 quality picks + expiring contracts could = Chris Paul for all I know.

Or it could equal Chris Bosh in a sign and trade.

The point is to set us up with more assets and I believe this trade does that.

Philly owes no picks, and has Minny's 2nd rounder next year as a credit (top 55 protected).

I think I'd do it. If we do no trade, we'll let Kwame go and sign a similar player (or keep him for similar money). Either way, I see no significant upgrade barring a trade (unless we find a gem in the draft). The longer we wait to make a move in general, the less options we have (with 4 guards needing PT, their numbers will suffer).

I prefer getting a legit young center, but those are pretty hard to find. Getting a serviceable one, not taking on additional salary, and getting a pick is a decent backup plan if nobody will move a center.

BTW, Battier is UFA that year. So is Gasol (not sure he'd leave), JRich, TD and TP (lol at those two), AK47 (for the right price he's good), and Caron Butler.

So there are some good options to spend that money on if they leave.

I didn't even know those guys were off contract when we'd have coin.

Thanks Chris.

Sign me up. In the end, our market is going to have to build through the draft, since we aren't going to win in free agency against Phoenix, Orlando, Miami, NY, LA, or any warm or big cash city. Honestly its as simple as that. If we can land a superstar in trade like Paul, then it is worth every asset in our arsenal. If not, the draft is our only option. 2 high firsts in a deep draft is a good start.
