They're fine. I almost wish this didn't happen so ESPN wouldn't talk about the Cavs "righting the ship" when they win two games in a row.

They'll probably be fine, but the thread will come in handy on occasion, I'm sure.

Brown having to coach offense without Kuester has proven to be amusing. Shaq and Big Z on the court at the same time? WTF?!

Cavaliers center Shaquille O'Neal has applied to be a special deputy in Ohio's Cuyahoga County.

O'Neal would have the right to carry a gun and make arrests as an unpaid employee.

He has served similar roles in Arizona, Virginia and Florida.

If his application is approved, O'Neal would have to undergo 36 hours of police training and pass an Ohio police exam.

Just what Ohio needs... more fucking cops.

Now they get to go to New York where the Knicks will make sure Lebron is taken care of in the locker room.

I will LMAO if the Knicks beat them!

I hope David Lee gives Shaq a heart attack in the paint and puts up 20 and 20 while Gallinari drops 28 pts (shooting 7-11 on 3's)

That would make my fucking day.

Looks like Mike Brown effed up again by giving Big Z a DNPCD at home for a game where he was looking to break a record for most games played in a Cavs uni. Apparently, Z is pissed and LeBron has his back. I wonder if this greases the skids for Z to be moved eventually.

When personal stats and meaningless individual records mean more than winning the game (which the cavs did) then that's a squad that just doesn't get it and won't win anything of significance. Granted the coach probably should have known better but this is just plain silly.

WTFchris
12-01-2009, 11:29 AM
Yeah, Lebron is out of line. Z can set the record with his next appearance anyway. This wasn't a consecutive streak or anything.

I'm sure Z would rather not be trotted out there for 20 seconds to get the record anyway. He'd rather set it in a game in which he contributes.

Glenn

I just think it's dumb coaching, creating drama where there needs to be none, being oblivious of the situation, none of which is a surprise when you are talking about Mike Brown. How many times has Z been given a DNPCD? And now you do it out of the blue on a big night for him in front of the only hometown fans that he's ever played for? Sometimes you need to see the bigger picture, and again, that's classic Mike Brown.

Do the Cavs lose if Z plays a bit? No way, they won by 16.

WTFchris
12-01-2009, 11:58 AM
How do you know they won't lose? Suppose Z goes out there and has a couple turn overs. Games can swing on a few plays one way or another. They outscored the MAvs by 8 in the last quarter, so it was a lot closer. As Herm Edwards would say...

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.

BTW, Gooden only played 23 minutes, and no Dampier. So who was Z supposed to guard (Shaq played 25 minutes, probably mostly matched up with Gooden). You want Z out there on Dirk just so he can set a record?

Glenn

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.

Again, I think that's highly idealistic.

These coaches need to manage their people just as much, if not more than, the game.

You play to appease LeBron, especially if you are Mike Brown.

Shitting on a popular player on a big night at home is a bad idea, especially if you piss off the franchise.

"I stand behind Z on whatever he feels." is a very dangerous quote from LeBron for Mike Brown.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas' big night was derailed by coach Mike Brown. Ilgauskas, tied with Cavs general manager Danny Ferry with a franchise-high 723 games played, never left the bench. Coach Brown saddled him with a DNP-CD, perhaps his first of his career.

Here is a good read on the subject: http://news-herald.com/articles/2009/12/01/sports/nh1769168.txt

Who gives a shit about this?

Zekyl.

No one else should.

WTFchris

I would think Shaq would have stepped up before the game and told Brown to start Z instead, even if they switched a couple minutes later.

The only thing that makes this weird is that Z was playing 25 minutes a night prior to that. But in general you do what you need to in order to win. Did Brown have comments after the game?

BTW, I just went to the Cavs page on the Cleveland Plain Dealer and they have the exact same layout as the Mlive Pistons Page. Those punks jacked the web layout too.

Here is some stuff from there I hadn't seen:

You also should have been aware that your 7-3 center told reporters a few days before the game that the record "is more valuable than the rebounds and blocked shots (which he also holds). ... With everything that I went through, to know that I put on a uniform more than anyone else in the 40 years [with the Cavs] is pretty good."

Sources told The Plain Dealer Ilgauskas was so upset about not playing in the first half that he asked to sit out the second half. Probably not a good move by him, but Mike, you started this.

After Monday's practice, you said: "[Sitting Ilgauskas] wasn't planned. Even as the course of the game went on, I didn't expect to not play him. You can call it a mistake, you can call it a coaching decision."

I'd argue that record isn't meaningless, especially for that franchise. Any player who plays 800+ games with the same franchise is very likely to have their number hanging in the rafters upon retirement (kinda like Vinnie Johnson). The Cavs organization had a plaque ready to be handed to Big Z that night. Instead, they look like schmucks by handing him the first DNP-CD of his career.

All owned by the same company (Booth/Advance/Newhouse). There's a similar site in Oregon as well.
