View Full Version : Pistons keeping Chucky over Deron Washington
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:01 PM For now, at least.
I'll let someone else draw the conclusion here.
Deron Washington waived; Pistons' roster at 14

AUBURN HILLS -- Deron Washington, arguably the most athletic player on the Detroit Pistons' roster, has been waived.
The move is a bit surprising considering the biggest knock on Washington's game -- shooting the ball -- was not a major issue in the preseason.
In fact, he shot 64.3 percent from the field (9-for-14) and was a perfect 3-for-3 on 3-pointers.
Now that he has been waived, Chucky Atkins remains the lone player on the roster without a guaranteed contract.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:04 PM So much for the "Washington made Afflalo expendable" rationale.
Also, I'll save you the time...
Afflalo made Afflalo expendable.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:06 PM So what else did Washington need to do to make the team? Why even sign him?
Hermy 10-26-2009, 01:06 PM correct me if I'm wrong, but the vet deal costs more, yes? Surprising.
Hermy 10-26-2009, 01:07 PM So what else did Washington need to do to make the team? Why even sign him?
I wasn't at the practices, but my guess is kid isn't too smart and was having trouble picking stuff up.
Damn shame, he was fun to watch.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:07 PM correct me if I'm wrong, but the vet deal costs more, yes? Surprising.
I'm not so sure it's more when you consider the portion of the vet's deal that the league covers.
Didn't Ben Gordon make Afflalo expendable?
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:11 PM I think it was Chris Wilcox, actually.
Is he playing shooting guard?
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:14 PM No, but he took the old shooting guard's salary.
But you know this.
We must have gotten a great deal on Gordon then.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:16 PM You're playing dumb.
Afflalo was traded to free up money to sign Wilcox.
Again, you know this.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:17 PM I love this!
Oh, is that what "made expendable" means? Who you were traded in order to get.
Also FU for beating me to #13
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:19 PM If Afflalo was out because of Gordon, then Washington would have never been considered.
Afflalo was moved because they needed a big.
But you know this.
Oh right because if your team doesn't need a 6-5 guard, then it doesn't need a 6-7 forward.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 01:25 PM Washington would have been about the 7th small forward on the roster, behind Stuckey.
Are we collecting more SFs or SGs?
Just when we finally would have been able to rest Tayshaun.
Glenn 10-26-2009, 03:17 PM “We would have loved to have kept him," Pistons coach John Kuester said. “He’s a young, athletic player, and I think he has a future in this league."
Well...
Hermy 10-26-2009, 03:22 PM But.......?
We don't want kids with futures. We want blind alleys and dead-ends.
Uncle Mxy 10-26-2009, 04:27 PM We met our quota of "dudes who can't make FTs" when we signed Ben.
mercury 10-26-2009, 04:34 PM But.... we like old Chuckers who can't defend better.
BubblesTheLion 10-26-2009, 06:22 PM He can't shoot, he has no real post game.
Just another athletic wing that can dunk, dime a dozen in the NBA.
Loved watching him play for VT though. ^_^
Higherwarrior 10-26-2009, 08:14 PM but we already have a wingman who can't even dribble the ball between his legs without losing control; rip hamilton.
liked the kid a lot and would've liked to see him develop more. but let's be real- he was athletic and that was about it. he can't handle to save his life and his shot was streaky at its best. sorry to see him go- i would've kept him around. but it's not like he's a huge loss or even any kind of loss really. we lose a kid i liked but not one who would've made any sort of impact IMO.
the phrase 'dime a dozen' comes to mind.
Pharaoh 10-26-2009, 09:23 PM You could pluck another guy just like him from any number of places.
Dude might have been a "good kid", athletic and all that shit but at the end of the day his time was up and it was time to go
this post is doubling as the phrases that should be used less thread
Kstat 10-26-2009, 09:34 PM Melvin Levitt.
Higherwarrior 10-26-2009, 09:38 PM even better- lou roe.
Kstat 10-26-2009, 09:40 PM Lou Roe wasnt an athletic freak. He was actually a decent player that was cut down by injuries.
Higherwarrior 10-26-2009, 09:42 PM not the athlete washington is, but IMO he was a similar player. a good athlete with no real position, poor ball handling skills and poor jumpshot. he was a better collegiate player than washington for sure. but his skills did not translate to the nba very well at all.
so i don't think he would've stuck for long anyway. maybe as an end of the bench guy but even then...
Kstat 10-26-2009, 09:43 PM by the time he got to the NBA he was a shell of the player he was at UMass. It's not fair at all to compare the two. It's like comparing Ed O'Bannon at UCLA to Ed O'Bannon in New Jersey.
Higherwarrior 10-26-2009, 09:51 PM true. liked those teams they had at umass with roe and camby.
MoTown 10-27-2009, 09:10 PM the phrase 'dime a dozen' comes to mind.
I love it when I get to use the word "ubiquitous." It's just a fun word to say/spell.
So go ahead and use it - you can thank me later.
Glenn 12-29-2009, 09:57 AM UPDATE
T.J. (Wixom, Mich.): What happened to Deron Washington? I was pretty sure he was going to be here this season and I think we could have used his size and speed during this time with guards being injured left and right.
Langlois: He’s coming off the bench with Tulsa, which recently traded for him, in the D-League, averaging 8 points and 4.2 rebounds. He’s shooting .351 and about 30 percent from the 3-point arc. That’s his Achilles heel – just not much of an offensive game. Freaky athleticism, but in limited doses in Summer League and the preseason it just didn’t translate as hoped into great perimeter defense.
