High style?... I think not. http://www.old-computers.com/fun/stupid_scans/stupid_ti99_advert1.jpg Fool 10-15-2009, 07:45 PM Damnit Denny. I've been watching old Psygnosis game intros all night now thanks to you. Commadore Amiga was the greatest old gaming computer in the history of history. UxKa 10-15-2009, 07:46 PM Not to ruin your thread here... but I remember when we got a 250mb hard drive in the family pc, and I'm pretty sure my exact quote was "Wow, 250mb! I don't know how we could ever fill that up!" Funny enough, the only flash drive I have on hand now is 250mb. There's times where I have to downgrade a mix to fit it on there. Fool 10-15-2009, 08:37 PM I still don't understand a terabyte drive. 1000 gigabytes. WTF? DennyMcLain 10-15-2009, 08:39 PM I still don't understand a terabyte drive. 1000 gigabytes. WTF? Could barely fit the knowledge in Glan's brain. UxKa 10-15-2009, 09:06 PM Could barely fit the knowledge in Glan's brain. In unformatted text at that. Rich text? No chance. Uncle Mxy 10-15-2009, 09:23 PM [QUOTE=DennyMcLain]170K disk drive???. I think this post alone is 170k!!!/QUOTE] That's 170k _before_ formatting, which whacks off a few k. Back then, you tended to talk 256-byte "blocks" as much as "k". Ahhh... the daze of the Commode... geerussell 10-16-2009, 03:16 PM 170k disk drive? I didn't get one of those for a long time. My first computer was this... using a little color tv as a monitor. http://www.mainbyte.com/vic20/vicmodem.jpg http://www.mainbyte.com/vic20/c2n.jpg http://onlythe80s.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/commodore_64.jpg Glenn 10-16-2009, 03:20 PM This is actually a good thread. :motown seal of approval: ^doesn't work for me, as it shouldn't DennyMcLain 10-16-2009, 05:05 PM GOOGLE-ed "Bukdow, computer", and got this: http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/106/m_62ee1f49cc0b4125880e7987b75ab6e1.jpg Some dude named Coby Schad. 25 years old... WITH KIDS!!!! ....* For God's sake, I hope this ISN'T Bukdow. DrRay11 10-18-2009, 10:54 AM I still don't understand a terabyte drive. 1000 gigabytes. WTF? Actually very practical for video/audio production. Faggot. UxKa 10-18-2009, 12:09 PM I still don't understand a terabyte drive. 1000 gigabytes. WTF? Kind of an odd post considering what I said right before you haha. I've been eyeballing a TB drive just because I'm sick of thinking X is enough but 2 years later upgrading. Those WD Caviar Green drives are pretty cheap because they're slow, but $80 for a TB storage disk is pretty appealing. Back on topic... Windows used to come on floppy disks, and it didn't take very many either. Uncle Mxy 10-19-2009, 07:59 AM Windows used to come on floppy disks, and it didn't take very many either. Bah! Even by the time of Win95, you're talking a dozen floppies or more. UxKa 10-19-2009, 06:55 PM Bah! Even by the time of Win95, you're talking a dozen floppies or more. I was thinking back to the days of Windows 3. I think that fit on like 3 'high-density' floppy disks lol. You could get 95 on a CD if you were really high tech. Here's a funny throwback that's not even all that long ago. In '99 I wanted a CD burner, and I didn't want some crappy 4x I wanted an 8x. I actually had to get a SCSI burner because IDE at the time couldn't handle 8x. Uncle Mxy 10-20-2009, 07:20 AM Ahhh... good point. Windows 2 (yeah, I actually installed that and yeah, you should be scared) was more CDs than Windows 3 because they were single density older floppies. But by the time you got to Win95, it was floppies, and NT on floppy was just plain stupid IIRC. Fool 10-22-2009, 06:23 PM Who even used floppies in 93? UxKa 10-22-2009, 07:57 PM Who even used floppies in 93? For Windows systems floppies have been needed for some setups up until Vista, if you wanted Vista so I still need floppies. You can't install XP on a RAID drive without floppies unless you slipstream your install disc and I have had about 50/50 luck with that. Plus RAID drivers are updated enough that even with a slipstreamed disc, you are probably out of date by the time you need a fresh install. So yes, even my uber PC has a 10 year old floppy drive in it until I get W7. Tahoe 10-22-2009, 09:00 PM OT...old ass computer jokes... Why do men spend more time with their computers than their wives? Cuz computers don't complain when you give them a 3.5" floppy. Fool 10-22-2009, 09:02 PM Well done old man. Seriously. /thread UxKa 10-22-2009, 09:20 PM OT...old ass computer jokes... Why do men spend more time with their computers than their wives? Cuz computers don't complain when you give them a 3.5" floppy. You don't have an 8" floppy? Tahoe 10-22-2009, 09:23 PM I've got a big hard drive. UxKa 10-22-2009, 10:02 PM 8" floppy. http://www.computermuseum.li/Testpage/Floppy-8inch-wDiskette.gif Fool 10-22-2009, 10:05 PM I hope it has Dig Dug on it. UxKa 10-22-2009, 10:41 PM I don't think it could hold that much info. You're probably looking at something like Pong. Fool 10-22-2009, 10:45 PM No way. Those babies can hold up to three games a side. UxKa 10-22-2009, 11:12 PM According to my quick and totally unthorough Google work, Dig Dug was over 2mb and 8 inchers never held more than 1mb. Pac-Man if you're lucky, not that Pac-Man is a bad game by any means. Ms. Pac-Man owned though. Fool 10-22-2009, 11:46 PM Zero chance Dig Dug was 2mb. 200K maybe. You could d/l a rom. geerussell 10-23-2009, 08:28 AM The size is going to vary depending on what version you're talking about. Arcade ROM, game console or any of the several native versions that were written for the c64/atari/apple computers. The c64 versions of those atari coin-op games were all pretty small and fit several to a disk. On another nostalgia note, I remember having to shop around for CD-Rs at work in the early-mid 90s. Buying in bulk to get good price, they were $18/disc. Burning a series of coasters would really annoy the boss. Not to mention take a while on that state of the art 1x cd burner. Glenn 10-23-2009, 11:22 AM I had this http://www.atariarchives.org/epson/chapter2-2.jpg I remember playing some kind of game that had clowns that were trying to keep plates spinning on sticks. Fool 10-23-2009, 11:25 AM 6 games to a disk and dozens of those 40 count (I believe) disk holders stacked on top of each other all cracked versions of games most of which I'd never heard of and would only play the one time I put them in to check them out. My brother's C64 game collection was sweet. Uncle Mxy 10-23-2009, 03:49 PM Zero chance Dig Dug was 2mb. 200K maybe. You could d/l a rom. I have a quality version of Dig Dug on my cell phone that's 178k, coincidentally. |
