Exploding Exercise Ball Injured Francisco Garcia
10.15.2009 - Updated on 10.15.2009
Yet most of this season was taken from Garcia when the exercise ball on which he lay while lifting two 90-pound dumbbells exploded. The accident, Garcia said, is as surreal now as it was when it happened.
"Just a regular day, lifting weights," he said. "I was out there, on the PhysioBall. We’ve got an understanding that the exercise was good. We’d been doing that, and it exploded on me. I didn’t have time to react or anything. It’s crazy, man. I keep reflecting in my head. It’s crazy."
Garcia said he hopes to travel occasionally with the team and maintain a strong connection.
"I want to be here as much as I can, be on the road as much as I can," he said. "I just want to be there with them, as a teammate, as a friend, as a leader. I think they really need me out there, even if I’m not playing."
Wizzle 10-16-2009, 01:50 PM NBA to alter traveling rules
NBA players will be able to take two steps before they have to stop, pass or shoot this season.
The NBA has put into writing a rule allowing players on the move to gather the ball, after driving or catching it, and then take two steps. Throughout NBA history, the rulebook said players could take one step.
The new rule reads, in part: "A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."
It is believed to be the first time any league, at any level anywhere in the world, has explicitly allowed two steps.
In March, NBA vice president of referee operations Joe Borgia told TrueHoop's Henry Abbott that referees had long been instructed to ignore the rulebook on this point and allow two steps.
On a conference call with reporters earlier this week, NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson told Abbott: "Based on Joe's comments, when you had a conversation with Joe, we did in fact tweak the language on traveling in this year's book."
Enforcement of the one-step rule has been hit-or-miss at every level of basketball. Archival footage shows NBA greats, from Magic Johnson and Pete Maravich to Bob Cousy and Julius Erving, getting away with two steps. Borgia, whose father was also an NBA official, said he cannot remember a time when NBA referees did not allow two steps.
Others insist allowing two steps represents an NBA strategy to aid scorers and make the league more exciting. Legendary point guard and current Knick broadcaster Walt "Clyde" Frazier says the league relaxed traveling standards some time ago to increase scoring.
"They go 20 feet to the hoop without dribbling one time," Frazier said. "This is what they are getting away with nowadays. Some of them are so obvious. You'll hear me on the broadcast saying 'That's a travel! Watch the feet!' Wilt [Chamberlain] would have averaged 100 points a game if they had let him do that.
"When guys couldn't put up points, about when they changed the hand-check rule, they made things easier for scorers, because these players can't shoot like we did," Frazier said. "Those few years when the Knicks were good [the early 1990s] -- that wasn't pretty basketball."
Whether or not this will affect play on the court remains to be seen. Referees have long been instructed to allow two steps and in interviews with NBA players last season there was some confusion about the rule. But most said they thought they were allowed to take two steps.
You will also be able to flop, carry, yell at officials or do anything else you think might help ruin the game.....that is all.
Glenn 10-17-2009, 05:34 AM One of my favorite players, Kevin Love, broke his hand. 6 weeks.
Uncle Mxy 10-18-2009, 12:20 AM Yay Bosh!
http://www.freep.com/article/20091016/SPORTS03/910160357/1051/Pistons-react-to-Chris-Bosh-s-legal-victory
DALLAS -- It looks as if almost half of the Pistons' roster will be giving Raptors superstar Chris Bosh a big thank-you when the team visits Toronto on Nov. 4.
Bosh won a legal victory Wednesday and claimed custody of around 800 Internet domain names that had been stolen from celebrities and professional and college athletes -- including seven Pistons.
Bosh accused a cybersquatter and his company of wrongfully using his name -- and the names of the other athletes and celebrities -- as domain names. One of the biggest celebrities on the list is singer Britney Spears.
Bosh, through his social media firm Max Deal, is offering to return the names -- such as charlievillanueva.com -- free of charge to the domains' namesakes.
"Great job, Chris," was Villanueva's reaction Thursday.
Other affected Pistons were Tayshaun Prince, Chris Wilcox, Rodney Stuckey, Kwame Brown, DaJuan Summers and Chucky Atkins.
It might not seem like that big of a deal since athletes make millions, but for someone like Villanueva, who takes branding his name seriously, it's huge. His Web site URL is CV31.com because his name was taken. Cybersquatters can also get a domain name and then charge a hefty sum in order for the celebrity to get the name back. Or the cybersquatter can use the name to set up a Web site that generates revenue -- basically using the athlete's name or likeness to make money.
Villanueva said he talks to Bosh and knew he was pursuing legal action.
Prince said he wasn't surprised.
"Right now with people looking to make money off something, especially in tough times, you can expect one way or another people will try to use your likeness or your name, whatever it may be, in order to try to get something from it," Prince said.

Heres a funny clip from Simmons' new article...
31. Michael Jordan
If you missed it, MJ served as honorary captain of America's team for the Presidents Cup two weeks ago. According to this column by Bob Verdi, MJ showed up that Monday (in San Francisco, where the tournament was held), then participated in all the preliminary events. And he definitely stayed through the weekend for the Cup itself. Glancing through this photo gallery, it looks like he had a wonderful time. There's even a photo in which he appears to have gotten to second base with President Bill Clinton. And, of course, it seems like his new girlfriend had a wonderful time.
Nice one-week vacation for MJ, right? The Cup wrapped up Oct. 12, just 15 days before the start of the NBA season. And normally, this wouldn't be weird … but Michael Jordan is the team president of the Charlotte Bobcats.
That same week, I was in New York and heard the following story from Someone Who Knows Things: Larry Brown was talking to one of Jordan's friends about something that didn't have anything to do with Jordan. Right as they were hanging up, Brown casually mentioned to this friend, "Hey, if you talk to Michael, can you tell him that I'm trying to get ahold of him?" And normally, this wouldn't be weird … but Larry Brown is the coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.
(Needless to say, I won't be picking the Bobcats for the 2010 playoffs.)

I'm also kinda disgusted with myself about that.

Two uniform memorials for the Pistons: They're wearing a jersey patch for Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly, and they've added "Mr. D" to their rear collar for Hall of Fame owner Bill Davidson. The Daly patch is just for this season, but the Davidson memorial is a permanent addition to the uniform -- the first permanent memorial in NBA uni history.
Glenn 10-27-2009, 05:48 PM It's permanent?
I guess we"ll see if the next owner agrees.
Timone 10-27-2009, 06:48 PM I'm actually looking forward to Celts-Cavs tonight.

It's developed into a nice rivalry. Rivalries are good.
Jason Maxiell eats pussy.
If that's what he needs to bring his game to the next level, then good for him.
Timone 10-27-2009, 07:51 PM That was a nice block.
I've come to expect LeBron to make that play every time.

League Pass Broadband is free till the ... 3rd or 2nd.
It looks great and I don't remember them doing the 3 games at once thing they are doing this year. Also games are available in the archive all season (I think they were only available for 2 weeks last year). Also a "my players" thing that lets you track a players stats real time.
Pharaoh 10-28-2009, 07:10 AM It's permanent?
I guess we"ll see if the next owner agrees.
Exactly!
If some cunt from Missouri bought the team would he give a shit about the history?
Or would he be too busy trying to move the team down south to notice the Mr. D on the rear collar?
Glenn 10-28-2009, 07:36 AM Those were statement wins by the Wizards and Celtics last night, and maybe a statement loss by the Cavs.
The Wiz look to be both good and deep. Can they stay healthy? If so, they may have something to say about the foregone conclusion that the top 4 in the east are etched in stone.
I think Mike Brown might be too dumb to coach/use Shaq properly. They lost one home game all last year (the Philly loss doesn't count) and now they're 0-1. LOL
Just 81 games left after teams made their "statements".
Integrating new players is harder than bringing back the old cast.
Glenn 10-28-2009, 09:26 AM Take that ball and run with it, Fool.
Washington seemed to integrate just fine.
Uncle Mxy 10-28-2009, 10:20 AM If Blatche and Foye can both drop 20 ppg off the bench and Arenas stays healthy, sure the Wiz will win a lot.
Wait, you mean Dallas isn't as good defensively as the Celtics?
Weird.
Glenn 10-28-2009, 09:23 PM Cavs possibly looking at 0-2.

Glenn 10-30-2009, 12:52 PM NBA Pushes Back Deadline For 2006 Draft Class
The NBA has pushed the deadline for contract extensions for all players from the 2006 draft class from Saturday to Monday, league spokesman Tim Frank confirmed Thursday night to ESPN.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that all 30 teams were notified via league memorandum earlier this week that the league's annual Oct. 31 deadline for players in the fourth year of their rookie-scale contracts, according to the collective-bargaining agreement, is moved to the next available business day if the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday.
Rajon Rondo and the Celtics are the parties most likely to be affected by pushing the deadline back.
Andrea Bargnani (Toronto), No. 2 LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland), No. 6 Brandon Roy (Portland) and No. 13 Thabo Sefolosha (Oklahoma City) are the only members of the class to sign extensions.
