View Full Version : OGT: Favres at Lions (9/20/09)
Glenn 09-16-2009, 02:57 PM Not sure if I'll be able to Wrangle up any time to watch this one.
At least I'm outside the blackout radius.
Lions say they've got 4,000 tickets left for Sunday's home opener vs. Vikings.
They'll probably "sell it out" though.
Wilfredo Ledezma 09-16-2009, 03:22 PM Hopefully Buchanon plays. It'd be nice to see the whole defense healthy this week, so we can at least see what we got.
Also, does anybody else wish we'd put Julian Peterson down at end more and play either DeAndre Levy or maybe even Cliff Avril at his OLB spot. Julian only had 1 freakin' tackle on Sunday, and that tells me we're not putting him in a spot where he can excel. I've always rembered him as a LaMarr Woodley-type LB where he's most effective blitzing. But of course we don't run a 3-4. Can he/Does he play DE?
Wilfredo Ledezma 09-16-2009, 03:25 PM Also, I imagine there will be a ton of 2 TE sets, since Backus will surely need extra help taming Jared Allen.
I think the Lions will cover the early line (+10). For some reason we always seem to play close games with Minnesota at Ford Field.
Plus, Favre can't abuse a secondary like Drew Brees, so Marquand Manuel will be able to catch his breath on Sunday.
El CHUPACABRA 09-16-2009, 03:39 PM Peterson only had 1 tackle because Mike Bell bounced off him like a ping pong ball.
Wilfredo Ledezma 09-16-2009, 03:54 PM Yeah, because Avril is useless against the run. Hopefully Jason Hunter starts next week.
WTFchris 09-16-2009, 04:10 PM Thankfully this will probably not be on out here (I would guess NO and Philly might be the national game).
Favre can probably won't break a sweat with Peterson running for 180 a 3 scores on us.
Timone 09-16-2009, 05:04 PM I THINK YOU MEAN THE ADRIAN PETERSONS AT LIONS
Glenn 09-16-2009, 05:22 PM I'm comfortable with Favre
Tahoe 09-16-2009, 05:47 PM Favre(and 3 ints or so) is prolly our best chance at making this thing competitive.
Wilfredo Ledezma 09-16-2009, 06:09 PM Peterson Vs. the Lions
Rookie Yr (07-08)
Sep 16- 20 car, 66 yds, 0 TD; 4 rec, 52 yds
Dec 2- 15 car, 116 yds, 2 TD
Last Yr (08-09)
Oct 12- 25 car, 111 yds, 0 TD, 2 lost fumbles
Dec 7- 22 car, 105 yds, 0 TD
Only 2 TD
Tahoe 09-16-2009, 08:34 PM Stack the line. Stop Pete. Make Favrah beat us.
Glenn 09-18-2009, 04:46 PM Lions sold out for Sunday - no blackout in Detroit.

Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:24 PM Jason Hunter? I thought sure the 1st(?) sack of the season would be Avril or something.
Stuffing Peterson, sacking Favre and getting a 3 and out? Dare I be hopeful?
Timone 09-20-2009, 01:29 PM nice to see them getting the ball to Calvin in different ways.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:30 PM They look really good, on both sides of the ball, so far.
Timone 09-20-2009, 01:32 PM Probably the best first quarter they've played since... don't know, help me out here Tahoe.
Wizzle 09-20-2009, 01:32 PM :tecmo:
Timone 09-20-2009, 01:33 PM bad, bad decision by Stafford.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:34 PM 19 ^ right on queue ... a pick
Timone 09-20-2009, 01:35 PM Can't get much worse than that.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:35 PM I realize it was a rolling pocket, but he could have/should have set up and threw that without running. Staff is still doing some of those same things wrong.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:35 PM CPEP! CPEP! CPEP!
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:37 PM He delivered that ball late...again!
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:37 PM DEFENSE!
The rolling out should actually help him. It shortens the field for him and forces him to only look at a specific area. It should buy him a bit of time to gain that extra second or two for decision making. Of course that didn't happen here...
Timone 09-20-2009, 01:41 PM The pace of the NFL games is so much better than college, imo.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:43 PM 27 ^ But he seems to deliver the ball late on those roll outs fairly consistently. The WR was open, but he took that extra 2 steps which let the defender get close. He waits too long on those for whatever reason...and that was something I remember the Ekspurts saying about his college play.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:44 PM The pace of the NFL games is so much better than college, imo.
Right on queue, go to comersh for a review.
College reviews happen really quickly. Not saying anything about the rest of it though.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:47 PM Just the fact that the Lions could change formations on that punt without fucking it up is an improvement over last year.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 01:50 PM DEFENSE!
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:00 PM We're doing great but the score is 3-0. <-- reality dealt with.
Timone 09-20-2009, 02:01 PM Every time I see Jared Allen I think of Superbad.
Nice mullet, asshole.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:02 PM TD LIONS!
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:03 PM Yeah, Jared Allen is one of those guys that I don't think I'd like even if he was on 'my' team.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:17 PM Pretty much dominate the 1st half and only up 3...maybe 4.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:22 PM Backus lets Allen in the backfield and then holds on the next play.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:38 PM Announcers just gave Backus props for holding off Allen. My bad, I guess.
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 02:39 PM Backus just let Allen in the backfield again.
Cross 09-20-2009, 03:00 PM fumble leads to touchdown...same ol...butpeterson is fucking good..
Tahoe 09-20-2009, 03:01 PM We haven't done squat since Staff threw that pick. We look like a totally different team...or like the Lions of the last 5 decades.
Timone 09-20-2009, 03:03 PM We haven't done squat since Staff threw that TD. We look like a totally different team...or like the Lions of the last 5 decades.
Fixed
Glenn 09-20-2009, 03:25 PM AP is incredible
Timone 09-20-2009, 03:35 PM Can't imagine he's going to have a very long career with the way he runs.
I'll cherish him while we still have him. :)

Uncle Mxy 09-20-2009, 04:13 PM YEAP TURNOVER LEADS TO TUCHDOWN
Touchdown leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
I had company over and ended up watching this shit. fmylife.
Glad to see that we know how to pressure the opposing QB as good as ever... shit. A former boss and avid Green Bay cheesehead emailed me yesterday, praying for the Lions to hand Favre's ass to him. I'm glad I wasn't holding my breath.
DrRay11 09-20-2009, 04:20 PM You know what? Let's run some pressure with Jason Hunter, he did well in the first half... Ok, second half, let's put J-Pete down on the line. Fuck Hunter and his pressure/sack. Oh, you know what? Hey, getting the ball to your great athletes in space isn't a bad idea. Let's motion Calvin to tailback to get the first down.. Creative, and good. It works, let's do it again... Not.
Actually, let's completely abandon everything besides the run in the second half and let the game whither away. Okay.

we have a tweet thread, so tweet if beers and wild college chicks were involved.

^ Favorite new quote.
After all this time, I never thought I could be surprised by the Lions. And yet, here I am, admitting that I'd never thought they'd get beat by Minnesota. I lol in their general direction.
Remember school? Remember how you'd be in your chemistry class thinking "oh shit, there's no way I'm going to even get a B in this class. I'm totally fucked"? And then the grades come out, and you have an A+, and the reason is that there was some kid in the class that failed every test and fucked up the curve? You're torn between wanting to hug that kid for boosting your stats, and asking him why the fuck he bothered to keep showing up to class.
The Lions are that kid. They make awful teams mediocre, and mediocre teams good. These bitches couldn't stop a boring phone call, and yet I cannot stop watching.

no.
Big Swami 09-21-2009, 01:20 PM no.
If you don't know who that kid is...
...it's probably you.
Things work different in culinary college?
Hermy 09-21-2009, 01:47 PM Mine was at CC, where the attitude was, "do this, if you do it gets an A, if not get the fuck out."
WTFchris 09-21-2009, 01:55 PM That's not how curves typically work. They don't adjust based on outliers. They adjust to averages. So if the entire class averages a 60%, you make that a C and go from there. you don't adjust the scale down to someone that fails.
