ND favored by 11.

But they're not any good, right?

Glenn

I'm looking forward to bukdow starting "his" MSU game thread.

Timone

So, how much better is UM's secondary than MSU's?

I know I voted for the MSU wins option, but I like the Irish 45-31 if the Sparty defense doesn't show up, 35-21 if it does.

WTFchris

Hard to say. You could say U of M will wake up ND, but CMU might wake MSU up too. I'm taking ND by 4, but I wouldn't be shocked to see MSU beat them either.

Always support the conference. College sports is the only time it makes sense to because of the voting. Always want the conference to win.

WTFchris
09-14-2009, 05:24 PM
I agree. I always vote for Big Ten to do well.

1) it helps shut up critics of the conference

2) it improves your strength of schedule.

Even though #2 is a non factor, I'd always root for MSU against all but U of M and CMU.

BTW, I was torn watching Saturday nights game. Can't stand OSU or USC. Wasn't sure if I should root for OSU based on #1 and #2 above, or root against them based on a bigger hatred. In the end I rooted against them. Every time I saw the vest and when I saw the looks on the OSU faces at the end...it was certainly the right call.

Glenn
09-14-2009, 05:24 PM
Disagre with you, Fool.

They have a win in the bank against ND, they need them to look good the rest of the way.

It will help UM a lot in the cpu rankings.

Glenn
09-14-2009, 05:26 PM
And I know they play MSU too, but the ND win is in the bank, and with the national love that ND gets, that could really help UM

WTFchris
09-14-2009, 05:28 PM
That is true. Say ND finishes ranked higher than MSU. It looks better to have that signature win over that better team. That being said, it won't matter because I think both will end up ranked but not in BCS bowls.

ND does have an easier schedule tough.

Glenn
09-14-2009, 05:30 PM
Not to mention that another MSU loss pushes them further down on the bowl game pecking order, and possibly UM up.

Plus, it's always more fun when MSU loses "big" games.

b-diddy
09-14-2009, 06:38 PM
its pretty optimistic to think the cpu's will be a factor for michigan.

this line is extremely optimistic for state. 11 points? i got nd by 11 in the first qtr, and it gets worse from there. i believe to quote bukky (since he wont be showing up soon, it seems) 'nd will be extremely focused in winning'. if weis loses his ass is insta-canned. plus he has a personal vendetta vs msu.

msu's secondary may or may not be better than UM's. no one has a secondary to stop ND. meanwhile, ND's defense is probably about avg, but itll look better against dantonio's meat and potatoes than against rodriguez's salsa and enchiladas.

WTFchris
09-14-2009, 06:45 PM
Yeah. CPU rankings would only matter if you were in contention for BCS. Even then, you'd have to have PSU or OSU in the national title game to have a shot at an at large bid.

Michigan would have to beat everyone but OSU and PSU for this to even have a chance at mattering.

More likely they'll just be slotted with their finish in the big ten (somewhere in the 3-6th range I would guess). In that case ND/MSU doesn't matter at all.

DennyMcLain
09-14-2009, 06:53 PM
I think ND will be very good this year, but I expect an even better performance from MSU. One thing Dantonio is establishing is consistency. I expect to see an improvement in the ground game with one of the two freshmen hitting 70 yds after Ray hits 80. A good secondary will help greatly against ND's mini Tebow (he has 1,000 more yds for his career than Tebow but against crap comp).

I believe MSU will win by 3 tds.

This quote is so good, I'm simply gonna rework this shit every week and post it.

WTFchris
09-14-2009, 06:55 PM
BTW, I bet Lefevor is a better NFL QB than Tebow despite what Baker thinks.

Glenn
09-14-2009, 08:53 PM
I think it's the Citrus Bowl that gets to choose the second team out of the B-10. I think that could be a realistic goal if everything breaks right, which would include MSU losing to ND.

Zip Goshboots

I pictured Baker, up in a luxury box, watching the game with some Big Booster of MSU (maybe the guy who owns the most newspaper distributing machines in the Tri-County Area), acting like a Big Shot, asying things like, "Well, Keef Nickle's arm sure looks better, eh Stosh?" and, "Wait til Notre Dame hammers Tater Tot and he gets a broken coccyx!"

So, MSU seems to weather the first half storm of CMU, goes up by ten, and yeah, Baker starts feeling his oats.

Then the :SHIT STORM!:

meltdown http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/denial-and-the-coming-data-meltdown.jpg

hits, and as CMU's winning field goal goes through the uprights, he runs out crying :emo kid: , and hides under a rock for a few days.

I'm too lazy to look, has he been here?HAHAHAHAHAHLOLZwhat a dork.:cogent:

I'm gonna say that Michigan State really builds on Michigan's 2nd half and does two things to help them win the game........

1. Press ND's wide receivers at the line of scrimmage and re-route them.
2. Pound the rock right at them and control the clock.

I think Michigan State will shut down Golden Tate and Shaquille Evans (no Floyd) and Larry Caper will announce his entrance to major college football.

MSU - 37
ND - 24

Fought to the bitter end. Tough break.

Defense has been atrocious. Have to shore up some sort of pass rush to disguise the fact that our secondary can't cover a 2 year old at this point.

Claussen was fricking on fire today. I thought the overall coverage by your DB's was pretty good, actually.

Greg Jones was fairly nonexistent. Notre Dame's offense is really good, idn't it?

our secondary is fucking horrible. the defense wouldn't let the offense play.

blair white was good. cunningham had some good catches towards the end. the bigten is looking real bad this year

30 points should be enough to get it done, especially on the road.

Defense was atrocious.
