getting in via the kin. school is less competetive, i know you know this.

msu is easier to get into, and thats all there is to it.

i hope i never see a 'this board is a toilet' post from you.

It has been established (Harbaugh, the large expose a few years ago, etc.) that UM does not hold its football players to the same academic standards it does the regular student. Nice try though, b-diddy. I realize this whole academic ivory tower bullshit about UM is one of the things that makes your little wiener chirp, but it just isn`t true.

isnt true in your mind.

bukky, i realize you graduated like 500 years ago, so i'll refresh you on how it works. once you get accepted at a school, you start taking these 100 and 200 lvl courses called pre-reqs (short for pre-requisits, or pre-required). these pre-reqs apply towards any major. up until about junior year, a major is about as meaningful as a typical bukdow claim on this board.

which is why its so funny to see tweedle dee and tweedle dum huff and puff about the majors of kids going into their sophomore years. typical, to say the least.

My major changed after my sophomore year. What does it matter what they are "pursuing" as an underclassman?

Why does this matter? Because it proves that the 4 part story on MLive was true. It also proves that Harbaugh was right. They bring kids in, filter them into the easiest classes possible to keep them eligible. It's a joke. If you look at those two lists and don't think anything of it, you are an idiot.

b-diddy

again, baker, your major is insignificent until you take upper lvl classes, and even then you have some leeway.

michigan maybe tells recruits to apply to the kin school since it has lower standards, but from there transferring to the school of lsa is a formallity.

its amazing how worked up you get over something you are completely ignorant.

Apparantly a lot of people, that's why they did a 4 part story on it. I know you'd like to push it aside as a Michigan fan because it's embarrassing~sorry.

Diddy, you don't think its shady that they push their kids into two majors? Who cares if you think majors are meaningless...pushing kids into classes they will "pass" and pushing them toward a shady professor for "independent studies" is wrong.

Ask Memphis about academic fraud.

So are you suggesting that Michigan should make more of their programs easier like MSU's so that the athletes can succeed in them?

Michigan State is the 2nd largest university in the country. They approach education in a different way. They could also take in just their top 5% and claim eliteness.

What is funny is fans pounding their chests about their academics when in reality, their athletes are being pushed through hush hush.

Okay I disagree...

A 24 on my ACT and a 3.3 GPA in HS got me accepted to MSU, Xavier & Oakland, three of the four schools I applied to in high school (2006).

I also applied to U of M but was denied acceptance.

Hmmm...

Considering that michigan is also one of the largest universities in the country, i doubt that the number of students is a major factor in the difference between universities. I bet that an examination of post-career income for non pro athletes would show that michigan players fare better than msu players after graduation. If the question is whether athletes take easier classes than the general population at u-m, the answer is unequivocally yes. However, that hardly makes them worse off than if u-m did not accept them via athletic scholarship in the first place.

its like youve completely ignored what ive said. if we were talking about the class of 2006, you would atleast have a point. you have zilch for 2008.

the % of kids after frosh year who a) know what they want to do, b) follow through with that for 3 more years , and c) have actually taken the step of going to the registrar's office and declared is very small.

i would stop being so quick to judge these teenagers. during your frosh year, being pre-med and pre-philosophy can be identical. so one isnt more impressive than the other yet. alot of kids take a year or two to figure things out. or in your case, decades.

My wife's cousin was the biggest U of M fan I've ever met. He has wanted to go there as long as I have known him. His grades were not good enough to get in, so he went to MSU.

MSU is a good school also (don't think I'm saying otherwise). I'm just saying I don't think you know what you are talking about here.

If you want to say athletes are held to a different standard, sure. But they pound their chest on academic standards because it's true.

WTFChris, they were the 2nd largest last time I checked. That's why I said that.

But hey, I can admit when I'm wrong. If Michigan is close in kids to MSU, then props to them academically. I got away from the point with my 5% comment. I've never wore a "Michigan State Academics" shirt, I root for their sports teams.

It is the same thing Buk always says, people that didn't go there point out how great Michigan is academically (which is funny) and their athletes are held to a completely different standard. Well known fact.

If you went to Michigan and you have that degree, thump your chest and be proud cuz you should be. But the athletes, different story.

I was actually talking with my wife about this topic the other day. She has a Master's from Michigan in the medical field, and she was telling me that Kiniesiology is no joke. It's actually a pretty tough major.

Kind of curious... when is that?

Records from the last 30+ years show that MSU has never been #1 or #2 in the Big 10 in terms of enrollment. Heck in some year it wasn't even #3. How much further back do we have to reach to the time MSU was 2nd? MSU joined Big 10 what, 50 years ago?

Wondering when you 'last' checked it.

After really analyzing it some more, I think the Michigan fans here are right. It's just one big coincidence that all of Michigan's football players pick one of two majors. I'm sure it is that way everywhere except for State.

I also think that the whole 4 part story about the university pushing its football players into the courses that some profs make easy and taking independent studies with shady profs is just all made up. I also think the former Michigan Rose Bowl Quarterback Jim Harbaugh made up all the stuff he said too.

What was I thinking?

Motown has maybe the most idiotic post I've seen this year and then it is followed up with Wil's Mesko post. Okay, first of all you list one guy having a different major, top that off by making it the punter, and top that off by pointing out the fact that you are either searching Michigan player's facebook pages or you are facebook buddies with him....LMAO.

You guys will buddy up here though and convince yourselves through numbers and equally mind numbing stupidity that this maize and blue perception of the sports world is in fact the truth and State fans are all off base.

Correct me if I'm wrong Filly, but I think the Kiniesiology major has a lot of classes that deal with anotomy, etc. I mentioned that about my wife because she had similar classes, and she knew some people majoring in Kiniesiology and said they were no joke. And she did go to U-M Flint because that's the only place Michigan has an anesthesia program.
