I bet we regret the Northcutt/Alexander trade now, eh?

If this doesn't signal Anthony Henry moving to safety, than we're going to have to make a move quick.

Our DB depth has suddenly become very thin.

Heaven forbid Buchanon or Delmas have an injury this year.

We should've tried to sign Rashad Baker who was cut by Philly or Eric Green who was cut by Miami. While neither are quality players, both are experienced guys who could offer better depth than the likes of Dexter Wynn and Chris Roberson.

Here's the current DB depth chart...

CB- Phillip Buchanon/Chris Roberson/Dexter Wynn
CB- Keith Smith/Eric King/Ramzee Robinson/Calvin Lowry
FS- Louis Delmas/Kalvin Pearson/Marquand Manuel
SS- Anthony Henry/Stuart Schweigert

Of course this assumes that Henry will be starting at SS and either Keith Smith or Eric King will assume the other CB spot opposite Buchanon. Ouch!

Sucks that we play the NFC's most potent passing attack in Week 1.

Yeah, I assumed Bullocks was probably done... uh oh.

We might be looking at a Schweigart/Pearson/Delmas trifecta at safety because, from what I've read, no one is stepping up at corner so that Henry could move to safety...

Is this because of injuries? Because he seemed to be one of the only competent DBs last season...

Technically he's on waivers, so if he's not claimed they still own his rights:

ALLEN PARK - Detroit Lions safety Daniel Bullocks was placed on the waived/injured list on Wednesday, but he might still have a future with the team.

If Bullocks clears waivers - the deadline is 4 p.m. today - the Lions basically have three options:

-- They can reach an injury settlement with him and then waive him and part ways.
-- They can reach an injury settlement with him and then, six weeks after the settlement time period (probably four to six weeks), the Lions can re-sign him to the team. That would mean that Bullocks could rejoin the team by some point in early November.
-- Because Bullocks' rights revert back to the Lions if he's not claimed, the Lions can simply keep him on the injured reserve list for the entire season. Because he's a four-year veteran, the Lions would retain his rights in 2010 even though he won't have a contract. The reason is because the rules of the collective bargaining agreement change next year and players who would become unrestricted free agents after four years now have to wait six seasons. Bullocks would still be a restricted free agent and the Lions would retain rights of first refusal.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz didn't want to comment on Bullocks' status until after 4 p.m. but all of Bullocks' equipment and personal items were still in his locker this afternoon. That's an indication - just an indication - that if Bullocks clears waivers, the Lions will put him on IR.

It's a smart move because there's no telling how good Bullocks might be down the road. He's never fully recovered from that knee injury from two years ago and, with another year to get it right and let it heal, he might revert back to the player he showed late in 2006.

Your corners are only as good as your pass rush on most teams unless its Champ Bailey, Nnandi Asomugha or Charles Woodson. You should care more about whether your team is getting to the QB.

I know I've said this before, but isn't Delmas going to be the SS, not the FS? I thought that he had the ability to lay people out, to step up in the box, and to drop back, all of the things you look for in your strong safety.

True, but we're taking baby steps with the Lions. We don't have a stud like Asomugha who gets throw at 12 times all season.

Your missing my point which is that you dont have to have an Asomugha if you get pressure consistently. Take your baby steps in the pass rush, who cares if they cut a CB. You dont get a pass rush Phillip Buchanon wont do shit fr you, with a pass rush he's a damn good CB.

I agree. There are a lot of teams that have fared pretty well against the pass without having lockdown CB's. They have good pass rushes. If I could have one or the other, I choose pass rush. Even if you have marginal CB's, there is a good chance the QB will make a few mistakes with a solid pass rush on him. You might get burnt a couple times, but you'll also get a few picks.

We really haven't had a good pass rush since Porcher/Ellis/Scroggins in the late 90's. Rogers/Porcher/Hall were still solid but it was only a year before Porcher got old and Kalimba flopped in replacing him.

Back before Rogers got TOO lazy. He was always lazy, but it got to the point that he was lazy more often than not. Back when he had Rogers, Hall, and........was Ellis still here when he was in his first couple years or was it the guy that replaced him? Either way, back when we had veteran leaders on the D-line, Rogers was pushed. As soon as he became the veteran leader, our d-line started fading.
