Did that have a Ham block at the beginning of that? Also love the EC breakaway flush.

I was waiting for the first negative Nancy.

Can't you try to just enjoy the mammaries?

My favorite team. They were the best defensive team in NBA history. Fuck you if you disagree.

Time to pop in the championship DVD.

So loved this team. Seriously, we had a human victory cigar for Chrissakes!

So fun to watch.

Team still doesn't get enough respect, from about a week after we got 'Sheed, we were the best team in the NBA.

Total Domination!

Can one of you upload the championship DVD so I can, ummmm, you know... borrow it?

I searched everywhere here in Oz for 2 years after the win and couldn't get it anywhere.

I wish I had a good Barry Sanders video to watch. BTW, I was watching something on the NFL Network last night on the 10 greatest individual seasons. Barry's record season wasn't on there. Total BS. Not only did he break the rushing record in a season, he broke the single game record in a playoff clinching game (which D'snuts and I were at).

Here's a better feel-good, from back in the good old days, when everything was happening for the first time...

LOL, yeah, except that we lost to LA.

Still the sweetest moment, at least to me. I don't think anything would ever be quite as sweet as taking down the celtics for that first time. The fact that it happened at home made it even sweeter.

I'll take the rings. 2nd place is not nearly as fun as 1st.

That's just me.

That's hindsight talking.

The moment, as it happened, was sweeter for a number of reasons. The Pistons steamrolled their way to the 89 title, from the comfy confines of the Palace.

In 1988 they were the scrappy lifetime loser that played in the shitty silverdome and brought the rough and tumble crowd to every game. They we underdogs against both Boston and LA, both teams they had never eliminated in their history.

It was 30 years of frustration ending. The Pistons were one of the big boys when they beat Boston to get to the finals.

Eh, why am I even explaining this. You probably don't get it.

How old were you in 1988?

Just curious.

I'm 37 and there's no arguing against the power of actually winning the whole thing. However I do have to say that that one moment was HUGE. For me the elation of finally climbing that mountain, finally defeating those Celtics and forcing the NBA watching world to respect the Pistons is without a doubt one of the biggest emotional highs I ever had as a Pistons fan.

And again, I wouldn't trade the championships for anything, but 88, even though we lost, was one of my absolute favorite playoffs ever. And we were just a few BS calls away from winning it all.

I felt pretty good about beating the Yankees a few years ago even though we lost to St Louis.

It must have been a huge relief for 10 year-old Kstat to get past those 30 years of frustration.

wasn't around then, no emotions here. first world series I can remember is the bay series with the quake.

first superbowl I remember is SF and Cincy.

first Cup I remember is Pens winning back to back.

first NBA would be the back to back titles by Detroit.

I was born in 1979, but those are as far back as I can remember really following.

Doesn't change the fact it was sweeter for that reason.

Doesn't matter if I was 28, 18 or 8 years old. I understood the game at any age better than you do now.

I watched the game but I'm not going to pretend that I was around for the previous 30 years. That said, it was simply a sweeter win, when you compare the time and situation. The moment the Pistons won the 89 title, it was sweet but also anti-climactic in many ways. It was a foregone conclusion that they were going to win. It simply doesnt compare to thousands of fans rushing the floor after the game 6 win against Boston, and Vinnie Johnson holding on to the basketball for dear life, Kevin McHale passing the torch to Isiah, etc.

Fuck, why do I waste my time typing this. You can't understand it.

I'll stick up for Kstat on this. 88 was epic and I'm still pissed about Game 6. 89 was anticlimactic, especially after Magic was injured. 90 was just plain fun... am amazed that one isn't on DVD.

You might get more traction if you spent more time supporting your position and less time flinging poo at the person disagreeing with you. Quit drinking so much Red Bile.

Anyway...

Going to the finals and fighting it out to the bitter game seven end is epic. Both 88 and 05 were great, memorable seasons.

To put it in perspective, show of hands... who would trade places with nets fan, cavs fan? Somehow I doubt any of them look back fondly on how their teams finally made it to the big stage and got gonged off in embarassment.

This post really got me thinking and almost deserves it's own thread.

I remember watching baseball games and world series before '84, but that year is without a doubt the first year I definitely remember the series itself. I still remember a lot about that wonderful season.

I vaguely remember watching the Superbowl in '79 but I would have to say my first real Superbowl memory is the next year with Superbowl XIV.

My first NBA championship would be either '82 or '83. I remember watching Dr. J in the finals. That's it. My next real playoff memory is Pistons - Knicks in '84.

My first cups were when Mike Bossy and the Isles were the absolute best. I think I saw at least two of their four cups.
