INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Tyler Hansbrough(notes) could miss up to two months with a right shin injury, but the Indiana Pacers believe their first-round draft pick will be healthy enough for the start of the season.

The Pacers did not provide details of the injury Friday other than to say the 6-foot-9 forward is expected to miss six to eight weeks ahead of the season. The NBA regular season begins Oct. 27.

Indiana said Hansbrough hurt the shin last season, his final year at North Carolina.

For some reason, I just dont like him...

Williams wasn’t alone on the waivers list, as the following players were waived Friday, according to a league source: Milwaukee Bucks forward Bruce Bowen(notes) and guard Salim Stoudemire, Boston Celtics guard Gabe Pruitt(notes), Los Angeles Lakers forward Sun Yue(notes) and Los Angeles Clippers guard Mike Taylor(notes). Bowen is contemplating retirement but could also have interest from Orlando, a source told Yahoo! Sports.

The New York Knicks claimed point guard Jason Williams(notes) off waivers Friday from the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Knicks have until Aug. 6 to negotiate a contract with the 10-year NBA veteran. Williams actually retired on Sept. 26, 2008, from the Los Angeles Clippers despite never playing in a game with the club after being signed as a free agent a month earlier

why Kevin Mchale lost his job...

Timberwolves president Glen Taylor is saying that Kevin McHale got canned because he wouldn't have been happy with the fact that team president David Kahn would be getting rid of plenty of the guys he brought in and believed in this summer: Mike Miller(notes), Randy Foye(notes), Mark Madsen(notes), Craig Smith(notes) and Sebastian Telfair(notes)

Taylor seems to think that McHale would have been too upset with the changes on the team to be an effective coach, which is funny because plenty would argue that he wasn't very effective last year when the 'Wolves ended up with a 24-58 record. Surprisingly, there were three teams worse than that in the Western Conference: the Sacramento Kings, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Meanwhile, the rumor is that Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis is likely to be named coach of the Timberwolves this week or next.

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1496098/us-domain-thief-charged

A NEW JERSEY MAN has been the first person in the US to be charged with stealing a domain name and selling it.

The domain in question, P2P.com, was pilfered by Daniel Goncalves, 25, after he hacked into a GoDaddy account belonging to one of its owners. Gonclaves grabbed his virtual swag bag, scurried down a dark alley - in this case Ebay - and promptly sold it to a passing basketball player.

The player, Mark Madsen, a Los Angeles Clippers forward, had no idea the domain was stolen and we have no idea why it wasn't snapped up by a filesharing site. Either way he still owns it. So that's one in the eye for justice.

Although the stolen domain sold for some $111,000 the police estimate that it's worth about $200,000. It is obviously worth a lot more than that to its original owners as one of them, Marc Ostrofsky, reckons they've spent about two and a half years and half a million dollars trying to reclaim the domain name.

However, their time may not have been spent in the most efficient manner. GoDaddy, which is facing a civil suit filed by Ostrofsky and his partners, has denied that its systems were negligent, explaining that the theft was not reported for over a year - well over its 60-day deal waiting period.

Possibly because domain theft isn't the most exciting name for a crime Goncalves was arrested on felony charges of theft by unlawful taking or deception, identity theft and computer fraud.

He is facing sixty years in prison if convicted.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy(notes) has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth between $78 million and $82 million, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Blazers are planning a news conference with Roy on Thursday to announce the deal.

After several weeks of sometimes contentious negotiations, The Oregonian reported on Wednesday that the two sides were closing on an agreement.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Kurt Rambis have reached terms on a deal that will install Rambis as the Wolves' new head coach.

Long considered a potential heir apparent to Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson, Rambis was lured away from Jackson's staff by a four-year deal believed to be worth in excess of $8 million.

Wolves owner Glen Taylor confirmed ESPN.com's report in an interview with the St. Paul Pioneer Press late Saturday, telling the newspaper that he expects Rambis to formally sign the contract Monday.

Denver Nuggets forward Linas Kleiza is taking his playing career to Greece after signing a two-year contract worth $12.2 million with Olympiakos on Monday.

Kleiza can opt out of the deal after one season to return to the NBA, according to a source.

Kleiza played four seasons with the Nuggets out of the University of Missouri. Coming off the bench, he averaged 9.9 points last season

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Boston Celtics are bringing back Glen "Big Baby" Davis.

Good for him. I would advise my son to do the same thing. Why deal with the limits the NCAA puts on your ability to work with your organization? Why risk injury (or someone catching on you aren't that good) when you could get enough money to put into an annuity and provide something for yourself from now into retirement.

Not saying these are the thoughts of kids making these choices, but they should be.

That's just getting sad. If I remember correctly, he was still pretty damn productive in Denver. In the D, that was just a whole mess of issues. Now he has to settle with the Bobs. It's amazing how fast an NBA career can just fall off the map. Maybe he is asking for too much money or too big of a role... but with the Paytons and the Malones of the world, you would think he could have found a job with a decent team if this was just 1 year ago.

Glenn
08-23-2009, 07:07 AM
I think Charlotte is a very good situation for him. He can play a big role (start?), he'd be back with LB, they need scoring, he can sell tix, and if things break right, they can compete for a playoff spot (even after making that stupid trade).

It's about the best option out there for him, IMO

Make or break for him here imo. If he can still prove hes a 20 point scorer and lead the bobcats to the playoffs, there might be a team willing to sign him. But I see the chances of all that being unlikely.

Heat’s Beasley admitted into rehab center

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley(notes) checked into an unidentified Houston rehabilitation hospital over the weekend, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Sources said the Heat encouraged Beasley to check into the facility to address possible substance and psychological issues. He is expected to spend time with former NBA player and coach John Lucas(notes), who is renown for his success in working with troubled players.

When reached Monday morning, Miami Heat spokesman Tim Donovan declined comment. An NBA spokesman also declined comment.

Beasley’s admission comes after a handful of disturbing Twitter posts were recently attributed to him.

“Y do I feel like the whole world is against me…I can’t win for losin,” Beasley wrote.

“Feelin like it’s not worth livin!!!!!!! I’m done.”

Beasley’s frustration had been born out of a posed Internet photo on his personal Twitter page. In the photo, Beasley showed off a SuperCoolBeas tattoo on his back while two plastic baggies could be seen on the floor in the background. Some people have speculated on the bags’ contents, even though the clarity of the photo makes it difficult to determine. After the photo became a fast-moving Internet story, Beasley posted the messages on his Twitter account before the page was shut down on Saturday night.

Even before the Heat made him the No. 2 pick after Derrick Rose(notes) in the 2008 draft, Beasley has been a target of criticism inside and outside the organization for his immaturity. From team president Pat Riley to superstar Dwyane Wade(notes), the Heat have been frustrated with Beasley’s clownish attitude and personal decisions.

The NBA fined Beasley $50,000 for being in a room where marijuana was found at the NBA’s rookie symposium last summer. Beasley had slipped out the door when security officials arrived on the scene, leaving Mario Chalmers(notes) and Darrell Arthur(notes) to face punishment alone. Riley later found out Beasley had been in the room and forced him to confess to league officials. So far this summer, Miami had been unwilling to include Beasley in trade talks with the Utah Jazz for Carlos Boozer(notes).

Beasley had a solid rookie season for Miami, averaging 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds.

They should have known that would happen as soon as they drafted him. If you're taking a foreign player that can make a ridiculous amount overseas, there are two keys.
1: Talk it over with him first and make sure he wants to play for you. Otherwise, he's not coming to the NBA.
2: Don't pick another player at his position right after him.
