View Full Version : Tigers acquire Washburn Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:27 AM more in a sec. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:27 AM http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=422&sid=195479 Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:29 AM Wow...I wonder who we gave up... Larish I bet is in there for sure, as Seattle has been known to covet him for whatever reason Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:31 AM Wow, I thought he was going to NYY Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:31 AM Washburn 8-6, 2.64 ERA Edwin Jackson clone Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:31 AM unfortunately, this doesn't solve our offensive woes, which was my biggest concern Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:32 AM So we're going to try and win 2-1 games. I hope it works. MoTown 07-31-2009, 11:32 AM Sweet. I wonder if he can hit... Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:32 AM LOL we gave Seattle Luke French and "another prospect" per MLBTR Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:32 AM He's got a little sex offender history, IIRC. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:33 AM I never thought of French as a prospect, but I guess the game he pitched vs. Seattle last week Thursday impressed some people over there. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:33 AM He's got a little sex offender history, IIRC. Jarrod Washburn? I'll wiki. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:34 AM Mauricio Robles was the other player we gave them... A+ deal for Dombrowski... didn't have to give up Crosby, Iorg, Perry, Satterwhite, Ramirez, Avila or Green Timone 07-31-2009, 11:34 AM He's got a little sex offender history, IIRC. so does bukdow, and we have no problem with him being here. Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:35 AM Props to Illitch for taking on payroll. What is Washburn's contract status beyond this year? Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:37 AM he's a free agent after this year... what's good is that he'll be a Type A so we can get some compensation if he walks Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:37 AM I'm just glad this takes some pressure of Porcello & Galarraga now, but I still think we could use a hitter like Josh Willingham or Aubrey Huff. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:38 AM I bet Dombrowski said that instead of giving them a better prospect, we would pay his remaining salary instead... good tradeoff if you ask me Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:39 AM check that, Washburn projects as a Type B free agent, so we could still get a sandwich pick if we offer him arbitration Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:40 AM It says on MLBTR that the Mariners asked for Jesus Montero from the Yankees who is like a 5 star, blue-chip prospect. So why they settled on French & Robles and didn't ask for somebody better is beyond me. Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:40 AM He's got a little sex offender history, IIRC. 2002 - charges never actually filed. 16 year old girl made allegations from a hospital. He was married with children. No formal charges, though. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:42 AM Hopefully this doesn't cause Kenny Williams to panic in Chicago and pony up for Roy Halladay... Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 11:43 AM Another plus is that Washburn is a lefty, which we certainly needed in our rotation since Nate & D-Train are useless turds. Timone 07-31-2009, 11:45 AM Hellz yeah. If we get a bat, we might be able to go back to the individual series threads. Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:45 AM Washburn is scheduled to start Tuesday for the Tigers. Timone 07-31-2009, 11:46 AM My birthday, huh? It just might be a PERFECT day. darkobetterthanmelo 07-31-2009, 11:53 AM Great deal, didn't really give up anything. French was going to be OK, until hitters realized he never threw over the middle of the plate, and hitters could get a guaranteed hit by sitting on a nice 88 MPH fastball. Glenn 07-31-2009, 11:59 AM Great move by Tigers. Washburn gives them 3 of top 7 in AL ERA race, and they didn't give up one of Baseball America Top 10 prospects Jethro34 07-31-2009, 12:05 PM Love it. Question, if the Tigers add a bat and Washburn can go, say, 5-1 over the rest of the season and maintain an ERA in the low 3's, could he bump to type A? Meaning he ends up 13-7 with, say, a 3.20 ERA. That sounds more like A than B to me. Anyhow, I actually hope the team is more likely to sign him beyond this season. He's 34, so I would like to resign him for 3 years, $25 million with a 4ht year team option? Any chance he would take that? Would fans like that deal? He has averaged 30 starts over the past 8 seasons, so there aren't injury concerns. He has also averaged over 180 innings per season during that stretch, which basically means every year for 8 years he has gone out there 30 times and given 6 decent innings. A career ERA of 4.02 is better than his .500 record. He's been 20 games under over the previous 3 years with Seattle - I'm guessing that's about run support. So I say Dombrowski needs to go out and get Adam Dunn and wrap up Washburn and suddenly Washburn and Jackson can start winning some games thanks to Dunn's bat. b-diddy 07-31-2009, 12:05 PM any chance this means we send tricky ricky to the minors for the rest of the year? getting another bat would be great. if you pick up a RF you can release mags and the tigers can be worry free down the stretch. anything but an all out release and i think his option vests, and a RF pickup would be a good pretext for his release. Glenn 07-31-2009, 12:13 PM Washburn's last 5 starts: 4-0, 0.74 ERA, 36 2/3 IP, 20 H, .382 OPS allowed. b-diddy 07-31-2009, 12:19 PM maybe if we throw in zach minor we can get ichiro. Jethro34 07-31-2009, 12:26 PM any chance this means we send tricky ricky to the minors for the rest of the year? getting another bat would be great. if you pick up a RF you can release mags and the tigers can be worry free down the stretch. anything but an all out release and i think his option vests, and a RF pickup would be a good pretext for his release. I would imagine that, if anything, this means he stays. Verlander Jackson Washburn Galaragga Porcello That's the rotation I expect. Maybe Sept 1 another starter comes up for a spot start, and Rick may be left off the playoff roster or considered a long reliever if necessary (if the Tigers make the post-season), but I think matching Porcello against another teams' 5th starter is a favorable matchup for Detroit. b-diddy 07-31-2009, 12:30 PM yea, it just occurred to me that even if he was sent down, he'd be brought up in a month anyway. just thinking they'd probably like to protect him as much as possible. plus, outside of may, he really hasnt been that great. he's let up 19 earned runs in his last 18.2 innings. DrRay11 07-31-2009, 12:35 PM HAY A TRADE NOW GET DUNN FOR PATATER CHIPS AND WE MIGHT START WINNING Timone 07-31-2009, 12:36 PM ^I wish the news was broken by you. "DrRay Exclusive! Tigers acquire Washburn" Glenn 07-31-2009, 12:39 PM ^I wish that the news was been broken by you. "DrRay Exclusive! Tigers acquire Washburn" Not me. I wouldn't want him to have a bad arm. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 12:43 PM I don't think they'll send Porcello to the minors. He's a big part of why we're in 1st place, so Leyland's going to have him stick around. They will, however, probably monitor his progress even closer and skip his turn in the rotation if the schedule permits it down the stretch. Jethro34 07-31-2009, 12:48 PM yea, it just occurred to me that even if he was sent down, he'd be brought up in a month anyway. just thinking they'd probably like to protect him as much as possible. plus, outside of may, he really hasnt been that great. he's let up 19 earned runs in his last 18.2 innings. Yeah, Porcello has been interesting. He struggled in April, he was AMAZING in May, he was average in June, and he's been dreadful in July. Is it the wall? Will he only get worse? Have teams figured him out? Well, we can certainly hope and expect an off-season will allow him to rest a while and then work on some things next spring. As for this season? I think Knapp and Laird need to do some work to find out how to make him the most effective he can be. Otherwise, you're right, if what he has given the team in July is what can be expected, they might as well rest him and have Willis or Robertson or Bonderman pitch. (or even Miner) Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 12:49 PM I get the feeling that we'll make another trade to add a bat. Dombrowski can't possibly go half-way adding a horse like Washburn and then not address the offense which has cost us 4-5 games just since the All-Star Break. Josh Willingham, Luke Scott, Russell Branyan, Aubrey Huff--I would say there is a better than 50/50 chance that one of these guys is a Tiger by the time the deadline rolls around this afternoon. Glenn 07-31-2009, 12:52 PM Mariner fan(s?) and hacks are already claiming that the M's will be coming hard after Washburn after the season to get him back. Timone 07-31-2009, 12:52 PM Mariner fan(s?) and hacks are already claiming that the M's will be coming hard after Washburn after the season to get him back. Right here, big guy. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 12:55 PM Another plus about Washburn is he has playoff experience as he was a top of the rotation guy for the Angels staff in 2002 when they won the WS. Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 12:56 PM I'd like to see one person try and say this wasn't a great trade for the Tigers. Mike Valenti & Drew Sharp both will try, I'm almost positive. Because they're both pessimistic ass clowns. b-diddy 07-31-2009, 12:57 PM wait til washburn has his first coney dog, chilli cheese fry, and vernors. oh damn he's here to stay. just hope he's not expecting starbucks... Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 01:00 PM according to Cots Contracts (http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/detroit-tigers_21.html), Wash had a no-trade clause, so he actually wants to be here (unlike Farnsworth last year). WTFchris 07-31-2009, 01:06 PM Haven't read the thread yet (hope this isn't already posted)...Edwin Jackson and him at the top two in batting average allowed in the AL. That's a solid 3 man rotation we've got now for the playoffs. Hopefully we hit enough to make it. WTFchris 07-31-2009, 01:10 PM any chance this means we send tricky ricky to the minors for the rest of the year? getting another bat would be great. if you pick up a RF you can release mags and the tigers can be worry free down the stretch. anything but an all out release and i think his option vests, and a RF pickup would be a good pretext for his release. Except for that shit contract we gave Willis (and Nate whenever his deal is up). Wilfredo Ledezma 07-31-2009, 03:05 PM Except for that shit contract we gave Willis (and Nate whenever his deal is up). Both Nate & Dontrelle (and even Bondo) will all be free agents after next season. That will be 30 mill+ of payroll to splurge on. Glenn 07-31-2009, 03:10 PM Both Nate & Dontrelle (and even Bondo) will all be free agents after next season. That will be 30 mill+ of payroll to spooge on. Timone 08-31-2009, 02:05 PM The fuck is up with this guy? MoTown 08-31-2009, 04:21 PM This guy sucks. El CHUPACABRA 09-02-2009, 02:42 PM No guys, it's ok, he retired 11 in a row after the 6 bone. MoTown 09-02-2009, 08:02 PM Good call. If the Tigers can get 10 runs a game, he should win at least half of his games. Timone 09-15-2009, 07:18 PM Fuck this dude. Fuck this, dude. MoTown 09-15-2009, 07:19 PM Fuck, this dude. Glenn 09-15-2009, 07:32 PM I can't believe that I was excited about this guy. What a buzzkill Glenn 09-16-2009, 01:45 PM I want my Freedom back. Tahoe 09-16-2009, 02:26 PM Just wait, he has a knee. |
