She is obviously anxiety-ridden over this deal. She's not really ready to take this final step to certify that it's over between you and her, and she's obviously not ready to marry someone else. Yeah, it all sounded great while they were rolling in the back seat while parked in your driveway and she was screaming so loud that she woke up Fidel Castro. But NOW, when the thing is gettin' real, she's getin' nervous.

"pseudo" = "looks like, but ain't". Trying to throw some % into the equation doesn't really cut it. If a girl is pseudo-pregnant, that means her belly is bulging, but 75% of a kid isn't kicking around inside of her. She's fat, or needs to see a doctor for an internal cyst and fluid buildup, or some shit like that.

Depending on what the "pseudo" or "quasi" is in front of, it may have more-specific meaning and intent. Pseudo-pregnant doesn't imply anything bad about a woman. Pseudo-science, on the other hand, usually means "bullshit science that you wipe your ass with and flush down the shitter".

"quasi" = kinda like "pseudo", but tends to be slightly more of a gray area. "quasi-science" might have aspects of scientific substance to it. It's less commonly used than "pseudo", because it starts with "qu" and "qu" is queer and quirky. :)

I don't know what "I'm just saying" is supposed to mean. Is that supposed to mean that someone doesn't mean what they just said? Does it mean someone is just using words and you shouldn't use that to judge how they would act? Does it mean "yeah, I just said that so deal with it"? What the fuck are people saying when they say "I'm just saying"?

It ranks up there with "like" and "y'know" as things people say to attempt to relate to each other, in (usually verbal) communication. The boundaries of a shared frame of reference can be tenuous at best, and such words are an effort to rein peeps into that shared frame of reference when insecurity and|or cues from the other participants make you think you're losing them.

Same concept -- "all I know is..." is a way to restrict shared conversation space. It's not quite as defensive as "I'm just' sayin'" but it can get the job done to curtail the other end. Lots of folks use and ooze this shit in their off-the-cuff daily speaking all day long, but it rarely gets the analysis it deserves. I'd love to see researc tying fMRI output to the use of "uh" and "like" to see if the same brain centers are in use in both, or if more "uhhs" means consciously or subconsciously have to do with injecting conversation delay to form more coherent thougts or whatnot.

But I'm sure behavioral psych sorts would rather get grant money to play around with Twitter and pontificate what the Twitterverse means for inanity... er, uh... humanity. 140 characters makes everything sexy, 4 sure.

To "I'm just sayin..." you could add that it's not necessarily being defensive, but a way to say "Yes I'm pointing out that you are a complete fucktard, and what you just did speaks volumes to that. I'm not telling you how to act though... just sayin."
