...I can't believe they actually play the national anthem for this shit.

DaJuan Summers is no secret today. He's headlining this matchup in pre-game discussion.

Pistons send out:

C: Plaisted
PF: Summers
SF: Daye
SG: Washington
PG: Singletary

Austin daye again playing some point forward, makes a sweet one-handed feed to plaisted for a layup.

It's like watching Kevin Durant dribble. A guy that tall should not be able to handle the ball like that.

I cannot stress just how ridiculously tall he is.

Austin Daye is outclassing Demarr derozen early on.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:05 PM
The unsung story so far of this summer league is that this team looks really cohesive. The coaches have done a great job getting them ready to play so early.

Kstat

Austin Daye with a Dan Majerle-sized three. I don't know how anybody would be able to block that. He shoots it so effortlessly.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:07 PM
Austin Daye with a rebound and runs the break himself, feeding Summers for a thunder dunk.

Dumars has to be loving this shit.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:09 PM
Derozen throws his body into Daye and gets him off balance and scores on him, first time he's gotten a clean look so far.

looked really smooth.

nice feed on justin tv folks.

Still uncomfortable watching Washington shoot the ball off the dribble....

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:12 PM
Daye swats derozen from behind on a fast break. I don't even think he jumped.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:13 PM
Deron knocks down another 3. He's at least improved his shooting on the catch, even if his shot of the dribble is still horrid.

Hermy
07-11-2009, 04:13 PM
washington is a spaz, but has gifts

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:14 PM
Joe D is in attendance, tapping away on his PDA...

Kstat

Austin Daye has some fire today. snags an offensive rebound and finishes with the 2-hand dunk.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:16 PM
Derozen seems to be taking this as a personal challenge. He isn't happy about getting lit up. A lot of rushed shots trying to get it back.

makes the game look effortless.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:19 PM
Daye has been blindsided twice now by Smush parker for steals. Only black mark on his game thusfar.

makes the game look effortless.
and sloppy.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:23 PM
much closer game this time around, Pistons up 23-22 after 1.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:25 PM
looks like the 2nd quarter is going to be the dajuan summers show....they run him off a screen and he hits a 3.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:28 PM
Austin Daye with another block.

It seems he has trouble with the strong stuff, but he'll swat layups with easy.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:30 PM
Jerebko still looking out of control. He doesn't know when not to foul.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:31 PM
man...Summers has a really ugly left hand.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:32 PM
WOW Deron Washignton with a spectacular tip-dunk!

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:35 PM
Jerebko clearly needs some good coaching. He doesn't have a good feel for the NBA game right now. Most of his decisions are bad ones.

He's got an NBA body, NBA skills and NBA athleticism, but he has zero clue how to use them to his advantage.

yeah, running around looking for quick ball movement, not gonna work here.

Kstat

Bramos is becoming a crowd favorite. He's all over the place.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:42 PM
Summers with another sick, sick scoop reverse. It's a joke how good he looks compared to everyone he plays against.

Hermy
07-11-2009, 04:42 PM
OH! Summers with the spin!

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:47 PM
Jerebko trying to defend the post....its not going so well for him.

Hermy
07-11-2009, 04:48 PM
Now Summers pushed Brent Petway out of the way to get an easy lay it. Great body.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 04:49 PM
Pistons lead at the half, 49-44.

Again Summers has dominated, but Austin Daye has also shown a variety of skills.

For the 936873288th time, he's the tallest ballhandler I've ever seen. It's freakish.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:05 PM
another ridiculous tip-dunk from deron washington. I want him on the roster if only for the highlight factor.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:07 PM
Deron Washignton just did a tayshaun prince block on derozen. I think he's got 4 of the top 5 plays so far in summer league.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:12 PM
Daye looks really, really good handling the ball on the perimeter. He's displaying a lot of all-around skill.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:18 PM
nobody doing much this quarter, except for Jerebko, who actually looks like a basketball player for once. Nice touch inside with either hand and a mid range jumper on the baseline.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:23 PM
Austin Daye with another really, really long three to end the 3rd. His range is limitless.

Pistons lead 73-66 after 3.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:29 PM
Deron Washington missing 4 straight FTs is letting the raptors back into this game.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:31 PM
Jerebko misses a dunk and then gets an offensive foul.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:44 PM
Deron does a lot of things you can't coach, and he can't do a lot of things you can coach...sound familiar?

He's made some spectacular plays in this game, but manages to go 4/12 from the line.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 05:49 PM
Summers warps up the victory with a pair of FTs.

Pistons 91, Raptors, 89.

Austin Daye: 19 points, 8 boards
DaJuan Summers: 19 points, 6 boards.
Jerebko again all over the place: 12 points, 7 boards, 8 fouls.
Deron with a much better game, but still work to do: 13 points, 6 boards but 4/12 from the FT line.

Plaisted actually looked good in the first half, but i never saw him again.

LOL @ Deron not wanting to shoot the free throws...

Thanks for the updates, Kstat!

Tucker and Owens seem like real players, as well.

Kstat
07-11-2009, 06:01 PM
Owens has previous NBA experience in Indiana. He's a hard-nosed PG, but can't shoot and has problems guarding quicker guards.

Clay Tucker is a D-league superstar that doesn't quite have the height or the handles to get his shot off in the NBA.

Uncle Mxy
07-11-2009, 06:29 PM
Yeah, I know who they are and aren't, though I can still tip my hat to a job well done. I'm still surprised that Tucker's never made it onto a 15-man NBA roster somewhere.

Kstat

For those of you who haven't watched Daye play yet... that's Demarr Derozen guarding him.

Demarr Derozen is 6'7."

Daye's feet are in a really strange position in that photo. Is the guy very graceful or does he look kinda awkward when he plays?

Joe Asberry
07-12-2009, 10:01 AM
i'm still skeptical, but it looks like we found 2 solid backup SF, the last time the Pistons had an above average backup SF was in 04 and his name was Corliss, so i still want to see what they can do on a NBA court, are these guys really ready to play consistent minutes? we'll see...

Uncle Mxy
07-12-2009, 12:23 PM
I think we had a decent SF backup in Valter, but we wanted to play him like he was a 3P-shooting PF. <groan>

07-12-2009, 12:26 PM
YEAH BECAUSE I LOVED WATCHING HIM PALM THE BALL AND SLASH TO THE HOOP FOR THE SURE FIRE SCORE.

Summers is looking like a good pickup.

Also if Washington was signed to a guaranteed contract, that means he's part of our 15 man roster no matter what?

Kstat
07-12-2009, 01:24 PM
they can always cut him and eat his contract.

Higherwarrior
07-12-2009, 06:58 PM
we've only got 10 guys under contract right now FWIW.
