View Full Version : Summer league game 1 vs Kings... Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:07 PM Daye is one tall motherfucker. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:10 PM ok, it's pretty clear Daye is gifted. He's the tallest player on our team, and he just took a rebound coast-to-coast for an and-1. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:11 PM Daye with another pretty steal to break up a 3-on-1, and gets the assist at the other end. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:19 PM Summers is a rather remorseless gunner... hit an early one but has thrown up bricks ever since. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:23 PM Tyreke Evans makes Rodney Stuckey look like John Stockton. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:24 PM Both teams playing pretty good D, but the Pistons are playing it better, for whats its worth. Jethro34 07-10-2009, 06:27 PM and you're seeing all of this how? Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:28 PM Summers has gunned his way back to %50 shooting. For what it's worth, he does have a very nice looking jumper for a guy his size. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:28 PM and you're seeing all of this how? check nba.com. It's online for a $15 (for every game combined). Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:29 PM Jerebko looks ugly on offense, but he's super aggressive on D. He likes to roam looking for blocks. He's going to rack up some fouls today, bu at least it's entertaining... Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:32 PM oh WOW Jerebko took a terrible lob pass and slammed it one-handed! I didn't think he was even going to get a hand on it... Pistons up 21-13 after 1. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:36 PM Jerebko with another early foul... he needs to learn when to pace himself. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:39 PM jerebko is really, really raw offensively, but he's got a great motor and he's really athletic. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:40 PM it wouldn't hurt summers to take the ball to the rim sometime today. 8 shots, all 18-20 foot jumpers. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:42 PM Daye hasn't seen the floor in about a quarter. Wonder why. he was pretty fun to watch. Mr. Oobir 07-10-2009, 06:44 PM Heh, nice dunk by Bramos. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:45 PM Casspi is really getting embarrassed out there ,and he's playing against our bench... Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:46 PM Summers needs to work on that handle. Managed to knife through 2 defenders to the basket, but didnt look good doing it... At his size though, I can see the Jeff Green Comparison. He looks like he can play a big 4. Joe Asberry 07-10-2009, 06:47 PM you payed to see this? Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:49 PM you payed to see this? No, I paid to see it. I figured it was worth it. I wanted to get a better feel for what Daye, Summers and Jerebko bring to the table. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:52 PM Good sign for Deron, he just stepped into a 3 and it looked much better than last year. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:53 PM Summers with an open lane that time, he's really strong for a wing player. Not comfortable with his handle right now, but he's got an NBA body, and NBA jumper and NBA-caliber athleticism. Joe Asberry 07-10-2009, 06:54 PM No, I paid to see it. I figured it was worth it. I wanted to get a better feel for what Daye, Summers and Jerebko bring to the table. english is not my first language sry ^^ http://fr.justin.tv/jimo2305 crappy free version Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:54 PM Deron showing an improved handle, but a left hand wouldn't hurt his cause either. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:56 PM I like the fact that every Sacramento player that enters the lane is getting knocked on his ass. The coaches are doing a good job. Kstat 07-10-2009, 06:57 PM Pistons lead 46-38 at halftime. Defense has certainly been the theme of the day. Speaking of which, I hope Austin Daye sees the freakin floor more next half. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:07 PM 2nd half opens up with another summer jumper....big surprise. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:07 PM Summers heating up...he stepped out beyond the arc that time. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:08 PM ok, summers is killing now. 7 points in the first minute of this half. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:11 PM Tyreke Evans is looking good going to the basket, but I think he has 3 times as many TOs as assists. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:13 PM Daye looks very smart out there, but he does need to make stronger moves at the rim. He's taller and faster than any other forward out there, he needs to show it. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:13 PM Plaisted looks average. Good defense, but it's outweighed by the fact he has no offensive moves whatsoever. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:16 PM Whoever Michael Bramos is, give this kid a training camp invite. He's showing a full skill set. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:17 PM Austin Daye with a loooong three. Very pure shooting form. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:18 PM Austin looks like the world's tallest ballhandler when he's handling it at the top of the arc...its freakish. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:20 PM Austin running some point for a bit...I think he's played 4 positions today. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:21 PM Plaisted looks like he's picking it up a little. For once, he doesn't look worthless. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:25 PM If the Kings think Evans is goign to play PG they are insane. Evans has passed the ball maybe 3 times this entire game. I don't mean assists, i mean PASSES. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:28 PM DaJuan Summers certainly looks like a first round pick. Every minute that goes by he's looking more and more dominant. He just forced his way through two defenders- You could hear very audible slaps on the arm- and still finished with an and-1. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:30 PM guess someone got in summers' ear. He's taking it to the rim on every touch now. Looking very effective on that too, BTW. 6'8" and 240 lbs of muscle- he's hard to slow down once he gets a head of steam. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:36 PM Watching Jerebko hack at will on defense is amusing. Not very effective, but amusing. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:50 PM Deron is mostly the same Deron. - Can't create off the dribble - Can't shoot in traffic - Can't pass very well - Plays quality defense - Hustles all over the place - Out-jumps everybody in the gym The only real difference this season is that he's added a spot-up jumpers, which combined with his athletic ability may be enough to get him a camp invite and a spot on the 15-man roster. His tip-dunks are still a thing of beauty, too. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:54 PM DeJuan Summers is worth the price of admission. He's been dominant. Jethro34 07-10-2009, 07:56 PM Any word during the broadcast on why Bynum and Walton aren't playing? I would think Walton might actually have a shot to show something. With all the lack of defense in the backcourt, a pass-first defensive PG should have a nice niche. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:57 PM Pistons win the game. 86-77. Summers: 24 points and 7 boards on %56 shooting. He looked even better than I thought, and I liked his game to begin with. Kstat 07-10-2009, 07:57 PM Any word during the broadcast on why Bynum and Walton aren't playing? I would think Walton might actually have a shot to show something. With all the lack of defense in the backcourt, a pass-first defensive PG should have a nice niche. Bynum decided against playing at the last second. Walton I think will get more PT tomorrow afternoon. Jethro34 07-10-2009, 07:59 PM Thanks. Good info throughout. Kstat 07-10-2009, 08:10 PM game 1 thoughts: -Plaisted looked better today than he did all of last summer for us. Still very smart defensively and solid on the glass. Given our lack of bigs, i can see him getting a camp invite, as he is a legit 6'11". He still sucks ass in the post though, and coughs it up like a $2 whore. -Deron is what he is. If he can make open shots consistently enough, he'll make the team. If not, he has no other offensive skill aside from a dunk, which nobody will let him use unless he can make them pay on the perimeter. - Daye looks like a kid that can play, and he can pay 4 different positions at least pretty well. He's got a very pure-quick-release jumper. Unfortunately, he's going to have to add some weight, or all that skill is going to waste. On a side note, he is really fucking tall. He's easily taller than Tayshaun. I can see him clearing 7 feet, easy. He's a sick ballhandler for a guy his size. He was doing multiple crossovers out there. - Jerebko is AK47 on speed. He has no clue what to do offensively, but he's athletic as shit and super-aggressive, which makes him look silly now but will help him greatly if he ever learns to harness that energy the way AK47does. I saw him guard everyone from guards to centers. Not always did it well, but he doesn't back down from a challenge. -Summers, as I said on draft day, is an NBA player. He's got a scorer's mentality and a skill set to use with it. He wasn't tested defensively too often, and he could use some work on his handle, but the guy is a fucking bully out there. 6'8" 240 lbs, and most of it muscle. I was wondering if he lacked ability to take it inside, but he showed an ability to finish strong in the 2nd half, when I don't think he missed a single shot. I can see him eventually becoming what we all wished Rodney White would be. Uncle Mxy 07-10-2009, 08:23 PM I thought this started at 6pm Vegas time, so I was mowing the lawn before the thunderstorms came, hoping to watch this online at 8-9pm. <kicks self> Higherwarrior 07-10-2009, 08:36 PM yeah shit- sorry i missed this too! thanks for the insight kstat. very nice. it is just summer league, but it's still nice to hear some of this stuff. very excited to see these kids get after it. we have 10 on the roster now so even with an acquisition or 2, it appears that at least 3 or 4 spots are up for grabs. maybe even 5. Jethro34 07-10-2009, 09:20 PM So what you're saying is that if you gave Summers some of Daye's height and ball-handling ability he would have been a top 3 pick? Kstat 07-10-2009, 09:32 PM Not really fair to compare the two. Summers and Daye have different styles of play. BIG BEN'S FRO 07-10-2009, 11:44 PM Kstat, thanks for the updates. It is nice to hear from someone who actually saw them play, even if you got your blue and red glasses on. Is there such a thing as Pistons cornbread? Maybe Jerebko goes overseas, with Summer and Daye making the team this season. Pharaoh 07-11-2009, 12:07 AM Kstat - thanks for the insight. I was thinking Jerebko would be a back-up PF - is he capable of minutes there? Do you think a Prince trade is likely now that you've seen our kids play? Kstat 07-11-2009, 12:18 AM Jerebko is about at an NBDL level right now. He's got an NBA body with NBA athleticism, but his basketball IQ is lacking, as is his self-control. Also, the rumor about him being a SF/PF combo is untrue. He's an average sized SF. His willingness to attack every position on the floor defensively is admirable, but he lacks the body to play the 4. Lastly, I think any move based on what you've seen in summer league is very, very risky. That said, I used to think it was pure insanity, but the last time we made a move based on summer league performance, it was to deal Rodney White so Tayshaun Prince would have more playing time. I think Summers is a legit NBA player from day 1, and if he grows enough, a legit starter. But unless Joe is made an offer he cant refuse, I'd rather not risk handing the SF spot over to two rookies. Pharaoh 07-11-2009, 03:31 AM Could Summers play some PF? Please say yes Kstat 07-11-2009, 03:34 AM At his size, he can defend the position. But his offensive game is tailor-made to play SF. He has little post-up game to speak of, and %90 of his offense starts on the perimeter. He's better off bullying small forwards inside than shooting over PFs that back off of him. DrRay11 07-11-2009, 09:38 AM So is he quick enough to guard LeBron/Pierce decently? We know he has the size. Pharaoh 07-11-2009, 10:08 AM IF Summers can reasonably defend PF's and Jonas is willing to get after it against every position I'm going to pretend they're both back up PF's. That way I won't feel so bad. The idea that Max is our only back up big is killing me. So, with Summers and Jonas as our back-up PF's and Max as our back up C at least we have some warm bodies to throw in there on game days. We can be mis-match heaven baby. Our team slogan for the new season? "Defense?" Just get a pic of Villa, Gordon, "Q", Rip, Prince and Stuckey all dressed in suits, standing side by side, grabbing their nuts. Jethro34 07-11-2009, 11:18 AM Defending the post and rebounding are the biggest concerns. Theoretically a team could trot out 5 guards and run an offense, but when Dwight Howard, Shaq, Chris Bosh, etc. get their turn on defense someone has to be able to slow them down and make life hard for them. Kstat 07-11-2009, 12:33 PM http://hoopshype.com/articles/vegas09_01_koutroupis.htm STUDS: There were a lot of general managers shaking their heads wishing for a mulligan on last month’s draft as DaJuan Summers was the star of the second game. Summers, who was selected 35th overall, was unstoppable with 24 points. The aggression Summers displayed in attacking the rim was a welcomed sight after watching him camp beyond the arc far too much this past season at Georgetown. Summers shot just one three pointer and also grabbed seven rebounds, leaving Joe Dumars with a big smile on his face. darkobetterthanmelo 07-11-2009, 02:07 PM Very impressive. Anybody got a shitty foreign link for the game in 2 hours? |
