DrRay11 07-06-2009, 05:52 PM Meche vs. Galarraga
Chen vs. Verlander
Greinke vs. French
Notes:
Galarraga has still sucked, although not sucked as badly
Vote for Inge instead of watching the Tigers' abysmal central division performances and get him into the all-star game
Pujols is on hgh
Wilfredo is uncool for throwing off rhythm

Timone 07-06-2009, 09:21 PM Fuck you, Joel.
DrRay11 07-06-2009, 09:23 PM He should be so fucking dominant... goddamnit
Tahoe 07-06-2009, 09:25 PM What'd he do get beat on his 3rd pitch again?
DrRay11 07-06-2009, 09:26 PM predictable fastballs.
Vinny 07-06-2009, 09:31 PM Is that Roman Colon? Come on Brandon.
Timone 07-06-2009, 09:34 PM Is that Roman Colon? Come on Brandon.
Who'd we deal him for again?
MoTown 07-06-2009, 10:00 PM A letter for Fernando in haiku format:
My Dear Fernando,
I fucking hate you so much.
Love always, MoTown.
Tahoe 07-06-2009, 10:07 PM We aren't going anywhere with him as our closer.
I wonder if we are going to make a deadline move? History tells me (or at least the pages of WTF) Yes, No and Maybe.
Wilfredo Ledezma 07-06-2009, 10:31 PM What a brutal loss.
I don't understand putting Rodney in during non-save situations...
Those have been the moments when he's given up runs all season long, so how Leyland can justify putting him in during a 3-3 game, is pure stupidity
But Zumaya deserves the most blame. Letting a powerless piece of shit like Willie Bloomquist hit a ball to the gap was inexcusable...
Tahoe 07-06-2009, 10:33 PM My favorite mgr in the bigs is still Sciocia or however the mgr of the Angles spells it.
Wilfredo Ledezma 07-06-2009, 10:54 PM My favorite mgr in the bigs is still Sciocia or however the mgr of the Angles spells it.
Scioscia's okay, but he hasn't done jack shit in the playoffs lately...
My favorite opposing managers are Ron Gardenhire, Tony La Russa, and Sweet Lou--in that order
Timone 07-06-2009, 10:57 PM jack shit in the playoffs hasn't been kind to any of those guys lately either.
Wilfredo Ledezma 07-06-2009, 11:01 PM jack shit in the playoffs hasn't been kind to any of those guys lately either.
true, i just hate everything and everyone that is associated with the rally monkey and tim salmon
Timone 07-06-2009, 11:05 PM I don't mind them all that much. I just hate the fact they pwn us.
Although.... the fact they're Tahoe's #2 team would be a good enough reason to hate.
Wilfredo Ledezma 07-06-2009, 11:08 PM Another reason to hate them is because they were #1 in ESPN's ultimate standings...
ESPN + asswipe formulas = hate

Fixed.
micknugget 07-07-2009, 11:57 AM Leyland blew that game as much as Zumaya and Rodney. When a starter is doing great and is just over 100 pitches...YOU LEAVE HIM IN! You don't turn over the ball to a bunch of mental midgets who can't close out a game, dumbass!!!
Wilfredo Ledezma 07-07-2009, 01:30 PM Yeah, I'm growing tired of Leyland's stubborness in that Zumaya is automatically, no questions asked, the guy that has to pitch in the 8th during a close game.
It's that same type of 'go by the textbook' approach which has cost us several games this year.
Just off the top of my head...
* the 2nd game of the year in Toronto (pulled Jackson with lead, Lyon blows it)
* the first game of the Angels series when they came to CoPa (put in Rodney in a 1-1 game, only to blow it)
* the final game of the 5-game series vs. the White Sox (Zumaya walks bases loaded, Podsednik walk-off single)
* the first game of the series @ Houston (Zumaya again walks bases loaded, walks in losing run)
* 4th of July vs. the Twins (Jackson pitching well, Bobby Seay walks Mauer & Morneau)
* yesterday vs. KC (Galarraga dominating, Zumaya coughs up 2 runs to Bloomquist)
and those are just the ones we lost...
even a few of the games we won had unnecessary drama...
* first game Vs. the Cubs (Zumaya gives up HR to Hoffpauir)
* Friday vs. Twins (pulls French after he strikesout Morneau with a 5 run lead, Miner immediately gives up 5 runs)
Well you get the picture, this act has grown old...we have the best starters ERA in the AL, it's time to stop putting so much stock into pitch counts.
Vinny 07-07-2009, 01:48 PM There's alot more that goes into these things though. We don't know if Galarraga was tired. We don't know if he had lost some zip. We don't know if his confidence had been shattered earlier this year and Leyland wanted to pull him before he could lose his quality start/win.
And things have gone the other way too. He left Jackson in too long when he threw like 130 pitches that one game and blew the lead.
I agree that he shouldn't have a set-in-stone bullpen rotation, but you have to remember that he's managing an entire season, not just one game.
Also, you start ignoring pitch counts and you end up with Verlander of last year or Bonderman of this one. That's just plain silly.
Wilfredo Ledezma 07-07-2009, 02:01 PM but you have to remember that he's managing an entire season, not just one game.
I agree with you here, but it begs the question why he pulled Luke French out last Friday, does it not? Bottom of the 5th, French had just struck out Morneau, he had 2 outs in the inning with a solid 5 run cushion and a pitch count in the low 80's, yet he pulls him for Zach Miner?
If he was 'managing the season' he would've let French at least finish the inning if not start the 6th.
That's a prime example of Leyland micro-managing/over simplyfing a game to the point where it ultimately leads to a let down.
I've always been willing to give Leyland the benefit of the doubt, but he's been indecisive in key spots this year where it has cost us dearly. The division may only come down to 1 or 2 games, so there can only be so many of these late inning losses before the haunting takes effect.

I would agree with you except that Galarraga hasn't pitched that many innings this season so that should be a non-issue. he wasn't happy about coming out. The guy wasn't losing velocity or throwing wildly (signs of tiring) and was only at 102 pitches. The bullpen had been pretty bad lately and you could almost guess as to what was going to happen.
