View Full Version : Paul Millsap

Today's a big day on the Boozer front.

Korver exercised his option to remain with the Jazz, that hurts their ability to keep Millsap.

If Boozer doesn't opt out, that REALLY hurts their ability to keep Millsap.

If Memo opts out, that also REALLY hurts their ability to keep Millsap.

I'm starting to think that Millsap is going to be Joe's primary target.

Apparently OKC has a big offer waiting for him, too.

How much will it take?

5 yrs, $50 mil. Starts at slightly more than $8 mil.

I'm not gonna overpay for these guys.

You either wanna stay in Mormonville with a team that never wins the big one or you wanna join an organisation that has managed God knows how many trips to the ECF, forget how many NBA Finals and won 3 titles over the last 20 years.

Fuck Utah as a state, as a religious destination and as an organisation.

If you believe that Joe is going to try to rebuild the "Goin' to Work" Pistons, then this is a logical starting point, IMO.

I agree - but how much do you wanna pay him?

Actually, fuck that - Devil's Advocate time.

Why pony up big money to a dude that hasn't done much in his career?
He's been a back-up for 99% of his NBA career.
He's had Sloan as his Coach.
He's had Deron handing him easy points.
He's had Memo not rebounding so he can pad his numbers.
He's had Boozer in and out of the line-up so he never gets exposed for long periods...

He also has some fucking heart and guts and determination. Sign him!

Fuck Boozer as a person, as player and as a free agent addition if you wanna be down with "The Booze" then fuck you too

Sources: Boozer faces decision

By Chad Ford

ESPN.com

Carlos Boozer has a tough decision ahead of him tomorrow. Boozer has until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to decide whether to opt out of his contract with the Utah Jazz. The contract is set to pay Boozer $12.7 million next season. Could he make more than that on the open market?

Boozer isn't so sure. Sources close to Boozer told ESPN.com that the power forward is still mulling his options and won't make a decision until Tuesday. However, sources say that there's a significant chance that Boozer won't exercise his player option and return to the Jazz next season.

A few months ago, Boozer was much more confident about his decision. He told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that he was opting out in December. "I'm opting out. No matter what, I'm going to get a raise regardless," Boozer told ESPN.com. "I am going to opt out. I don't see why I wouldn't. I think it's a very good business decision for me and my family, but I'd also like to see what happens with the Jazz and stay here."

The landscape has changed a lot since Boozer made his statement in December. The financial meltdown has caused owners to pull back on spending. The free agent landscape is pretty dicey. Only three teams -- the Pistons, Thunder and Grizzlies -- have enough money under the cap to offer Boozer a substantial deal. Two of those teams, the Thunder and Grizzlies, are young teams in the process of rebuilding. Boozer is not in either team's plans, according to sources.

That leaves the Pistons and Jazz. For months it was assumed that Boozer would land in Detroit. But last week Pistons sources told ESPN.com that Boozer wasn't the team's highest priority and that if they pursued him, they weren't willing to give him the $13-15 million a year he's looking for.

The Jazz aren't in a great position to re-sign him either. Utah has to sign another free agent, Paul Millsap, and possibly a second, Mehmet Okur, if he opts out of his contract. Okur's agent told The Associated Press on Monday that his client was leaning toward opting out. Those two contracts would put the Jazz near the luxury tax threshold. It's unlikely they would go over to re-sign Boozer.

If neither the Pistons nor Jazz offered Boozer a contract, he might be forced to take the mid-level exception from a team -- a drastic $7 million pay cut for Boozer next season.

That, according to sources, is what is keeping Boozer up at night. If he opts out, he's taking a huge gamble ... one that few GMs expect him to take.

"As soon as it looked like the Pistons were the only team with the money and desire to pay him," one Eastern Conference GM said, "I knew Boozer would be changing his mind. Unless I knew for sure that the Pistons would pay me big bucks, you just can't make that gamble. I fully expect him to be back with the Jazz next year."

Chad Ford covers the NBA for ESPN Insider. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Should we have to pay much more than the MLE for Millsap (assuming Memo/Korver/Boozer stay as mentioned)?

Would he really go to OKC for an extra few million (total) and not win?

What would you offer Memo? He might end up being the one that gets away (if Boozer doesn't opt). They'd have to choose between Memo or Millsap.

He doesn't have the injury concerns of the other centers we've talked about. Plus he could really be good on the pick and roll with Stuckey.

You Piston fans need to wake up and realize it's over.

OKC > Pistons

This has got to be BS.

Utah's Paul Milsap and New York's David Lee are highly coveted yet restricted free agents who will have several suitors, including Memphis and Oklahoma City. Reports already have Oklahoma preparing to offer Milsap a five-year, $65 million contract -- something similar to a deal Lee reportedly is seeking.

lmao, 13 mil per year for Millsap? i think 70/5 is the max anyway, why settle for 65 then :)?

hope they do and Utah matches. That would mean Memo walks and nobody but Memphis has more than the MLE (they already have two centers). OKC would have their offer tied up for two weeks.

Who says they won't be winning with a few more pieces? They have the superstar wingman in Durant (either SG or SF) and up-and-coming players in Westbrook (PG) and Green (SF/PF). If they added Milsap, they'd have a solid young starting nucleus and after a year of learning and growing together, they'd have developed enough to start making a push. Everyone forgets about Durant because he's stuck in OKC. If he was playing somewhere like New York or LA, he'd be all over primetime.

Westbrook/Harden/Durant/Millsap/Mullins

Green as 6th man.

Could be decent in a couple years I suppose.

Suppose OKC gives him enough that Utah doesn't match (because Boozer doesn't opt).

Would they just keep Memo and pay the taxes (wouldn't be a ton with Millsap gone)?

They would probably play Millsap at the five and play a wide open style. Millsap, Green, and Durant can all rebound. That would be one hell of a team. Too bad it will take paying Millsap 13 a year to do so.

i don't think they want to lose both Okur & Millsap...but i think Millsap is as good as gone, and i hope we can beat out OKC for him, this 13 mil a year is bogus anyway 9-10 would be the max

WTFchris

Memo is a UFA if he opts. Assuming Boozer stays and Memo opts, do they try and sign him right away knowing they may put themselves out of Millsap range?

Or do they not sign Memo and he simply signs somewhere else while they wait on Millsap to sign a deal they can match?

If Boozer stays I'm thinking they have to choose between Memo and Millsap. The sequence of events might not allow them to simply pay the taxes a year.

OK, so apparently the Thunder are gonna offer a 5 year/65 million dollar contract for Millsap. LMFAO

As stated in another thread, Boozer and Memo both chose to not opt out.

Millsap just made a shitload of cash.

I rang but Paul was asleep!!!

Can you believe him? I told him the Raymond Brothers need to get their shit together cause today is gonna be the best day of his young life.

Then I told him to go have a shower, grab a coffee and have a smoke and I'd call him back in an hour...

Don't worry - I told him to take his phone off the hook and switch his mobile to silent until 11pm my time.
