Maybe Joe finally told him it ain't gonna happen here. Fool 06-15-2009, 11:03 AM Maybe it was always the old man who held Billy back and now that he's dead it's time for Joe to put his real dynasty together. DUMARS IS KING! Fool 06-15-2009, 11:58 AM http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_12585998 A little birdie says former Detroit Pistons star Bill Laimbeer would love the Timberwolves' head-coaching job. Motown ... we might have to catch a game together. Glenn 06-15-2009, 12:07 PM They must love that "little birdy" stuff there. They kept doing that when they were claiming that Flip was going to take the U of Minny job. MoTown 06-15-2009, 12:31 PM http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_12585998 Motown ... we might have to catch a game together. The Target center is like my second home. Let me know when you want to go. Glenn 06-15-2009, 12:49 PM Rick Mahorn, Laimbeer's former teammate on the "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons of the late 1980s, is expected to take over as coach of the Shock, the defending WNBA champions. Glenn 06-15-2009, 02:31 PM DBTM, I can only think of one. Rick Mahorn, Laimbeer's former teammate on the "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons of the late 1980s, is expected to take over as coach of the Shock, the defending WNBA champions. I'm not worried. Fool 06-15-2009, 02:31 PM I'm sure Kstat knew too. Herm might have, as well. Mxy, of course, but he knows everything mentioned on the net. Fool 06-15-2009, 03:05 PM Watching his presser right now. Says he doesn't have another job. Says he made a mistake even starting the season. Says "a lot of changes going on in the men's league ... Mr. Davidson dying ...." First question was "can the league survive without you?" Says he interviewed with Zeke during a prior season and it was a huge distraction to the team so he wouldn't pursue another NBA job as the coach of the Shock again. metr0man 06-15-2009, 03:10 PM http://sports.espn.go.com/wnba/news/story?id=4260271 Lambeer resigns as Shock head coach and according to Minnesota paper: A little birdie says former Detroit Pistons star Bill Laimbeer would love the Timberwolves' head-coaching job. St. Paul Pioneer Press Fool 06-15-2009, 03:12 PM You heard it first from metrOman. Fool 06-15-2009, 03:13 PM Lol, Mahorn is wearing pink (and shorts!) and looks like he ate Laimbeer. The Shock now have a GM/assistant manager. Eat your heart out John Hammond. Will Mahorn still be the color guy for the Piston's radio broadcast? Glenn 06-15-2009, 03:17 PM I'm not buying it. I think Laimbeer is still coaching the Shock 15 years from now. Fool 06-15-2009, 03:22 PM What is Bill Laimbeer’s greatest WNBA coaching achievement? -Worst-to-first turnaround in 2003 -Three championships in six years -Three consecutive Finals appearances -Most postseason wins ever WTFchris 06-15-2009, 03:28 PM So no reason has been given at all? Very odd. b-diddy 06-15-2009, 03:38 PM Lol, Mahorn is wearing pink (and shorts!) and looks like he ate Laimbeer. The Shock now have a GM/assistant manager. Eat your heart out John Hammond. Will Mahorn still be the color guy for the Piston's radio broadcast? what do you mean, "color guy"???? Wizzle 06-15-2009, 03:56 PM :thatsracist: DennyMcLain 06-15-2009, 08:02 PM what do you mean, "color guy"???? Bill Laimbeer is our White Knight! Big Swami 06-15-2009, 09:15 PM I have heard, via 97.1, that Laimbeer is "pursuing an opportunity in the NBA." No clue exactly what that means yet. DennyMcLain 06-15-2009, 09:42 PM Ah fuck! Hermy 06-15-2009, 10:24 PM I have heard, via 97.1, that Laimbeer is "pursuing an opportunity in the NBA." No clue exactly what that means yet. Aren't we all. UxKa 06-15-2009, 10:42 PM Please be a Piston again please be a Piston again please be a Piston again... Can't be any worse right guys? gusman 06-15-2009, 11:07 PM I want him to be our coach, however, whatever team he goes to I will be rooting for. Black Dynamite 06-15-2009, 11:17 PM he coaches another team i'll be disappointed that he didn't at least a shot here when we happily gave Curry one here(albeit with one of the most uncoachable stars in the league and the team captain traded). Fool 06-16-2009, 09:07 AM Laimbeer vs AI. That would have been funny. Big Swami 06-16-2009, 09:14 AM Laimbeer vs AI. That would have been funny. It would have been the shortest coaching tenure EVER. Pharaoh 06-16-2009, 09:34 AM Disagree Denny. Iverson would have lasted 1 practice before Bill smashed him. He either wimps out then and there or plays like a man for the entire season and playoffs. And I pray this means Curry is about to be shown the door. Bill's resume is pretty impressive. (Yes, I understand the differences between women's and men's basketball) WTFchris 06-16-2009, 12:49 PM I'm not sure if Bill is a good NBA coach, but I have faith he could be. I'm sold on Curry being a dumbass on the bench. We're not a championship caliber team, so I'm willing to take a chance on Bill. Glenn 06-16-2009, 01:22 PM NGH Pharaoh 06-17-2009, 07:05 AM NGH = WTF What is it with you GD? Typing all this crazy shit? IBSSTG Glenn 06-17-2009, 07:51 AM NGH: not gonna happen I'll say this though, this "Laim to Minny" thing just got more interesting. Apparently Kevin Love just tweeted that McHale is out. Pharaoh 06-17-2009, 08:10 AM Well, Kevin Love better read some websites cause I read a rumour on DX that he could be trade bait on Draft Day for #2 and the Pups would select Rubio at that spot and select Hill (if he's there) at #6. Glenn 06-18-2009, 11:56 AM The friggin little birdie is back... Charley Walters: Mark Jackson could get long look as Wolves prospective coach Charley Walters Updated: 06/18/2009 12:09:13 AM CDT David Kahn, the Timberwolves' new basketball president who has removed Kevin McHale as coach, insisted Wednesday he has no ready list of potential candidates to succeed McHale. But a little birdie says Mark Jackson, a former point guard for the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks, among other NBA teams, will get strong consideration for the job when Kahn technically begins his search after next week's draft. Jackson, 44, is an ESPN and ABC-TV NBA analyst. He has no coaching experience, and his staff with the Timberwolves would include experienced NBA coaches. As the Pioneer Press reported last week, one candidate already seeking the Wolves' coaching job is Bill Laimbeer. The highly competitive former star for the Detroit Pistons last week abruptly resigned as coach of the WNBA champion Detroit Shock, whom he coached to three championships in six seasons. "Do I know that there are some people out there that have had their names floated in connection with other jobs? Of course," Kahn said. "(But) there is absolutely no list, there is no candidate lined up, we haven't even started. We won't start for nine days." Kahn did acknowledge that he had received one call Wednesday morning from a person interested in the coaching job. He wouldn't say from whom. "I hope we have a robust list of candidates; I think we will," he said. Contrary to speculation elsewhere, NBA TV analyst Jeff Van Gundy is not a serious candidate. Kahn sent Wolves season-ticket holders a letter before Wednesday's announcement that McHale would not be retained. The letter said he hopes to have a new coach by midsummer. It also said the Wolves will "have a team in transition for the next few years." Glenn 06-18-2009, 01:31 PM Christian (Woodbury, Minn.): Will Bill Laimbeer be the Pistons’ coach next season? Langlois: As Laimbeer himself said on Monday when he talked about his decision to resign as coach and GM of the WNBA’s Shock, Christian, the Pistons already have a coach. The reality of the NBA is that coaches who don’t win at a level on par with expectations don’t stick around for long, so you never know what might happen down the road. But Michael Curry goes into next season as Pistons coach. Laimbeer’s decision to quit and his public admission that his goal is to coach in the NBA will put him on the radar of GMs looking to hire outside of the pool of available coaches with NBA head coaching experience. We’ll see if anyone is sufficiently intrigued to hire Laimbeer, who is 16 years removed from his playing career and hasn’t coached men at any level in that time. Fool 06-18-2009, 01:37 PM I hate quote Keith day. Glenn 06-18-2009, 01:39 PM He's trying to ruffle your feathers there a bit, isn't he? WTFchris 06-18-2009, 02:48 PM wait, we have a coach? Glenn 06-18-2009, 03:52 PM Ruh roh Shaggy... Bill Laimbeer has no shot at coaching in the NBA By MICHAEL ROSENBERG FREE PRESS COLUMNIST This is all you need to know about Bill Laimbeer’s NBA coaching aspirations: He wanted to show he was serious about coaching, so he quit on his team. Three games into the WNBA season, Laimbeer resigned from the Shock. He said he wanted to focus on getting an NBA job. Apparently he thinks that by declaring himself a free agent now, he can line up something before NBA training camps open. Laimbeer has it backward. He thinks the NBA won’t hire him because he has been coaching women. In fact, he has been coaching women because the NBA won’t hire him. Why won’t anybody in the NBA hire him? Well, Laimbeer has been trying to answer that question for years. He sees himself as a potential NBA head coach but can’t even get a job as an assistant. He took the Shock job only to show the NBA he can coach. (And there is nothing wrong with that, by the way.) He won three championships with the Shock. Yet no NBA team will touch him. And still Bill Laimbeer is searching for answers. I think I know what the problem is. People in the NBA do not like Bill Laimbeer. Doesn’t Laimbeer remember his playing career? I don’t mean some people did not like him. I mean he was the most hated player in the league. And if that sounds harsh, please remember that at the time Laimbeer would have taken it as a compliment. He loved being hated. It was sort of his thing. He’d hit outside shots (I can’t call them jumpers because he couldn’t jump), fight for every rebound, play every game, irritate every opponent and give credit to nobody. And whether Laimbeer wants to admit it or not, he often has carried his persona off the playing floor. I know Pistons fans love him, and that’s great. But sometimes Laimbeer has to brighten up just to be called “dour.” There are a few different personalities that can work with NBA stars. Laimbeer does not have any of them. He retired from playing almost 16 years ago. He has never coached in the NBA. He has never coached college basketball. He has never coached men, period. Fool 06-18-2009, 04:05 PM I love "He has never coached men, period." As though it was a disputed fact. geerussell 06-18-2009, 09:33 PM Ruh roh Shaggy... As a charter member of the "no fucking way should Lamb coach the pistons" club, I approve that message. mercury 06-18-2009, 09:43 PM Botom line is you don't voluntarily give up a paycheck unless A)there's too much BS from management (hello championship)... or B) You've got something sweeter lined up. He's got a deal worked out... still gotta follow the league etiquette. Glenn 06-19-2009, 11:29 AM Vecsey Mark Jackson is at the top (along with Mike Fratello and Sam Mitchell) of David Kahn's interview list. The two enjoyed a solid relationship when the recently hired Timberwolves president was Pacers assistant GM under Donnie Walsh. Fool 06-19-2009, 11:50 AM I like quote Vecsey day.
