The Federal Communications Commission put 4,000 operators on standby for calls from confused viewers, and set up demonstration centers in several cities. Volunteer groups and local government agencies were helping elderly people set up digital converter boxes that keep older TVs functioning. Any set hooked up to cable or a satellite dish is unaffected.


WGTU in Traverse City, Mich., was off the air midday, and was working to come back up by 3 p.m., before the Detroit Red Wings played Game 7 of the Stanley Cup on Friday night.

"We do have some folks here that we don't want to disappoint," said Jill Saarela, the head of the station.

I ended up getting a DTVPal Plus from K-Mart for my limited DTV needs.

It seems to work just fine.

The FCC fielded 300,000 calls on Friday re the transition. Many of the calls were actually people wondering why the TV didn't work. How can you watch TV at all, and not know this was going to happen?

You can get the DTVPAL Plus at places other than K-Mart. :)

Did anyone else feel the need to get guv'mint coupons? I felt like making sure I could get something if there was a service interruption.
