View Full Version : is liking renoir "girly"
b-diddy 06-08-2009, 12:18 AM hes probably my favorite painter. i prefer impressionism, so he fits the bill. plus he's not cliche like salvadore dali, van gogh, and picasso.

Vinny 06-08-2009, 12:34 AM Nah, not too girly.
DennyMcLain 06-08-2009, 01:30 AM as long as it's not Hockney, you're fine by my standards
I prefer Van Gogh. Fucker was clinically insane, which adds to his cool factor
I almost bought a copy (or whatever the term is) of that last one diddy for my ex-wife (when she was my wife) one year as part of a Mother's Day thing.
Zip Goshboots 06-09-2009, 02:14 PM I'd say Renoir has a fruity side, and I really don't believe for one fucking second that you are into him diddy.
I mean yeah, he's a step above "Dogs Playing Poker on Velvet"--but if you want faggy shit like that hanging in your apartment, the good chicks, and I mean the ones who will let you have the ass if you promise to spank it and then run out for pizza and beer while you sleep (instead of wanting to cuddle) will take one look at that crap and either realize what a phony sap you are, or just what a sap you are and either run or clean out your bank accounts within 48 hours and disappear.
Of course, if you actually bring home a chick in the first place, and she is as phony as you and pretends to like that shit, chances are all she's thinking about are mini vans, strollers, what kind of pussified colors to do the nursery up in, and if she'll be able to pretend to love you long enough to take half a chunk of a pretty solid retirement account in ten years when she runs off with either a construction worker on a Harley or her best girlfriend from her job down at the bank.
Glenn 06-09-2009, 02:22 PM I agree with Zip.
Zip Goshboots 06-09-2009, 02:23 PM I agree with Zip.
I was actually channeling you, Gl'enn.
Glenn 06-09-2009, 02:29 PM POLL ADDED
Zip Goshboots 06-09-2009, 03:56 PM Guys who like faggy Renoir paintings are in for a rough life. Usually the only kind of women they can get are those bitchez who wear nothing but dresses that look like burlap sacks, grow their hair long, leave it straight, and it goes grey by the time they're 29; the kind of women that go ugly with a purpose. The kind of women that have 34 cats, 16 dogs (half of them strays with rabies), a couple of birds, fish, and probably even a fucking ferret or two.
AND-they're vegetarians. Militant vegetarians. You know, like you see them and you're all "Hey, that's a nice faggy new Renoir!" "Fuck off. I don't eat meat."
And you gotta live with them in some run down hut just outside thw worst, most crime-ridden part of town (unless they drag your sorry ass up to Saskatoon where they haven't discovered electricity, natural gas, and bathing) because the houses there are "old, and have character. And big trees". And yeah, the kind of bitchez that really do like walks on the beach or in the rain.
Plus, deodorant, perfume, soap, toothpaste--all those modern contrivances are things they eschew to get back to nature.
And oh man, when they get naked you feel like Mrs. King Kong.
I tell you what, you better can this phony art phase there, Mr Christopher Lowell diddy, and get back to reading Hustler, watching porn, eating hot dogs and drinking Busch Light before you end up as the poster boy for eHarmony.
Glenn 06-09-2009, 03:58 PM Goshboots is killing it today.
Glenn 06-09-2009, 04:15 PM I wonder if bukdow likes Renoir?
DennyMcLain 06-09-2009, 08:29 PM Goshboots is killing it today.
GoshbootFan = Me
Too many of those bitches in L.A. Unkempt hair (I might guess because combs and brushes are made of disgusting "plastic"), rugged clothing, clogs, armpit hair (clean armpits are unnatural to them). Some shit shirt that says Namaste on it, holding a yoga mat, off to Downward-Facing-Dog their pooch ass at some yoga studio along with trophy wives, homosexual actors, and ugly women who have nothing better to do with their lives and yoga makes them feel "special".
Though I must say, owning any kind of Renior print is OK if you know what you're talking about. Listen, Zip has it right... up to a point. What YOU need to find is some DD dingbat bitch who'll buy the notion that your Renoir is REAL and worth a hefty amount of dough. If you live in a shithole (or barn loft, I dunno), play it up that the surroundings are merely a "disguise" to have prospective theives believe it's really a shithole, when in fact it's a $300,000 luxury condominium.
If she digs on your secret millionaire guise, you'll have that ass anytime, anywhere, anyhow.
Glenn 06-09-2009, 10:31 PM I'm regretting my vote a little.
It's not nice to judge someone else's opinion when it comes to art.
Hell, my parents had the giant wooden fork and spoon on the wall, after all.
Tahoe 06-09-2009, 11:01 PM There's some great renoir displays, showings whatever the fuck you want to call them, just west of Union Square in in SF. You can browse for hours.

It IS OK to judge other peoples' opinions in art, especially if you have :cogent: perception, and can feel the phoniness even through the intranets.
I tell you: I can tell who's telling the truth because I can sense their personality, their feelings, what they are TRULY thinking--just by the way they write. Just by the tone of their posts.
And besides, I like the cubists. I like the Picasso. Abstract. Don't try to capture mood--you only put your mood into it. Painting is cool, but it's dung compared to what you can do with the pen, unless you completely distort it.
b-diddy 06-09-2009, 11:56 PM i take it your referring to "prefer impressionism"... maybe a little pretentious. but i do. i definitly prefer it to classicalism, or realism. but i also like picaso, its just *EVERYONE* likes picaso. liking renoir is peacocking.
i love 19th and early 20th centrury european and american art. too bad post modern or contemporary art or whatever you call it is for 'mos.
Zip Goshboots 06-10-2009, 12:01 AM Liking Renoir is lying. He's Emo. He's too easy because you don't have to think. You can't bring meaning into the painting--he spells it out for you. Fucking A--he's (IF it's a "he") is to art what guys like Sinclair Lewis are to writing--it's so spelled out for you that you don't even notice it's on the wall or you read it. The shit looks like a fucking picture you took of your wife or your fat assed mother in law on a trip to Graceland.

Cuz I'm an elitist lib and I know what is good. I tell them what is good. I will regulate what is good. I know all!
Liking art isn't personal. It's what I say you should like.

I don't hate The Tahoe. But he does have to learn that he's wrong about a lot of stuff.
You need to recognize that he has 2 crews.
2 crews!
Tahoe 06-10-2009, 11:05 AM Upped to 3 right now. 2 is so yesterday
Big Swami 06-10-2009, 11:59 AM Most of the time art does nothing for me. Every once in a while I'll look at something and I feel like I just "get it" and it reaches me, but that's not very often. I really like Vincent van Gogh paintings, and there are probably more but I can't think of them.
But then again I used to feel that way about classical music too, until I found some stuff that I am absolutely nuts about. Maybe one day I'll grow some taste in art too.
WTFchris 06-10-2009, 12:15 PM I prefer a good nature photo to any art really. I like going to a museum and admiring the work they put into them, but I'm not sure I'd appreciate it on a daily basis if it was in my home.
Zip Goshboots 06-10-2009, 01:57 PM Upped to 3 right now. 2 is so yesterday
Three crews and stil with time to post on this message board all day and night--AND read all the Hot Republican Spin News--AND get drunk every day?
Tahoe 06-10-2009, 06:13 PM I haven't been on as much lately. Sorry about that. I know y'all are heart broke. I can't read so I only listen to the hot republican news, but do find time to drink beer every gol damn night.
As for crews, I have as many crews as I have contracts to fulfil.

Van Gogh. Went to his museum in Amsterdam, and spent a lot longer in there than I ever thought I'd spend looking at paintings... while in Amsterdam at that.
Tahoe 06-10-2009, 08:21 PM ^ Its weird huh? Its really interesting once you get started.

Why the cross? Will a cross not only work against vampires, but a giant, mad horse as well?
And I wouldn't be the one trying to stop the naked bitch on top of the horse from getting to me--just on the off chance that she's not a vampire or wouldn't kill me, or mind the fact that I am standing naked in the dessert and haven't showered in a month or two.
