View Full Version : Put your money where your mouth is
gusman 05-29-2009, 12:56 AM I have been a very cynical sports fan over the past 10 years. I have always felt that the game was manipulated by either the refs or perhaps the coaches to change the outcome of the game for financial benefits. With the upcoming game in Orlando on Saturday anyone who thinks the NBA is fixed should bet everything they have on Cleveland. With the way the economy is and considering that LeBron is just getting older, his legacy needs to begin this year. I feel that the bookies/NBA had to let Orlando go up 3-1 just to give people the idea that Orlando could possibly win the series. Just think of all the money people made when Orlando won game 4. I guarantee people were betting heavy on the Cavs that game and I know the line was around 1.5. All I am saying is that if the Cavs win this series and then go on to win the championship I will say that the NBA is fixed forever. If Orlando wins this series I will shut my mouth about the game being fixed. I think that a lot of people are thinking similarly to me so it should be interesting to see the outcome of the game. I am considering betting a substantial amount of money on the Cavs in game 6. The line currently has Orlando favored by 1.5. I have never seen so many conspiracy theories out there as there are currently.
DennyMcLain 05-29-2009, 01:20 AM I dunno. Game 5 was called a little more fairly than I first imagined it would be. Still, I think Orlando got some bad calls, but not so many where I thought the Association was conspiring.
Kstat 05-29-2009, 02:36 AM I've recently discovered that I have magical powers.
If it rains tomorrow, it's because I made it happen.
If not, check back the next day to see my powers in action.
WTFchris 05-29-2009, 08:42 AM I'd have to see the context of games 6 and 7 first (to see if the refs are still handing them calls).
gusman 05-29-2009, 11:18 AM My bottom line to all this was, if you truly believe the NBA is fixed or bias towards LBJ the Cavs have to win game 6 and 7. I am really looking foward to the game tomorrow.
metr0man 05-29-2009, 11:19 AM Its not that its fixed its that the refs themselves are in love with and awed by Lebron and Wade, not to mention they are so old and slow that as soon as they drive in and there's a little contact, they cant see wtf just happened, and give it to the superstar.
Basically, they are Cavs homers on RealGM, who have vowed to themselves to call it down the middle but can't help getting a boner when they see Lebron do something amazing.
darkobetterthanmelo 05-29-2009, 11:25 AM The NBA is biased towards Lebron James, but in the end the players decide the game. Here is a perfect example. In Game 5, Rafer Alston was 1-10 while Mo Williams was lights out from three. If those numbers are reversed, Orlando wins. You can bet your bottom dollar if the game is close, the Cavs will win, but if Orlando executes and knocks down threes, they will win.
Glenn 05-29-2009, 11:28 AM To me, this phenomenon makes the Pistons 2004 Championship even more impressive.
If you don't have the superstars, you have to play out of your mind to win.
Zekyl 05-29-2009, 04:04 PM And they didn't just win, they won the series 5-0!
Higherwarrior 05-29-2009, 05:12 PM which was the OT game? game 4? that was an absolute crime how the calls went down the stretch. it's like they were trying to help lebron and cleveland win. fortunately they still lost in OT.
but that call that sent lebron to the line in the closing second was one of the most ridiculous calls i've ever seen. the defender was backing away and giving lebron space. james was falling to the floor out of control and he threw his elbow into the defender. the right call was an offensive foul. a bad call would've been a 'no call'. the most horrible, inexplicable, conspiracy-fueling call was a defensive foul.
and that's what they called. insanity. that game should've never made it to OT and it's fortunate the magic weren't completely screwed by losing in OT.
the officiating in the nba is at its worst ever. charges and blocking fouls are both called horribly inconsistently and screwed up with regularity. that needs to be clearly studied and changed. it's a complete joke.
Tahoe's mouth can't fit all his money. He's got two crews!
Kstat 05-31-2009, 12:08 AM What a load of shit this thread was. Another conspiracy theory down the toilet. Of course, nobody's going to remember this dumb ass prediction 3 months from now, wheras had the cavs come back, he'd be gloating how right he was. I hate stupid zero-accountability shit like this.
Tahoe 05-31-2009, 12:17 AM Couldn't find the aks Kstat thread so who do you think wins between the Lakers and OMag.
I think its Lakers in 6, maybe 5.
So is gus looking for a second job by now?
Pharaoh 05-31-2009, 02:35 AM Gus will disappear for a while before returning like this never happened.
At least I have the balls to mention the Orlando thread every now and then.
One simply can't be right about everything.
Being right about everything else should be enough to please the masses
Kstat 05-31-2009, 02:54 AM my problem is when people come way out of left field with conspiracy bullshit like this.
Shit like this, you better be %100 right, or you're an asshole.
Pharaoh 05-31-2009, 03:02 AM Well, the NBA is fixed, if you consider that refs give superstar calls all game long.
Those added extra points certainly make a difference to the game and at times the foul call can swing the entire quarter.
The league doesn't acknowledge that the refs give superstar calls and while I wouldn't say the game is "rigged" certain teams do benefit more than others.
Until the league gets back to calling the game evenly for all players people are gonna bitch.
gusman 05-31-2009, 03:11 AM hey listen Kstat, i stand corrected. You can tell me what a fuckface I am but I will be the first to admit when I am wrong. My only defense is that the NBA let Orlando win because they were worried about everyone thinking the NBA was fixed and what better defense then letting the Magic win. So dont you go puttin me up on the chopping block because I am a realsit and I see things from all angles. And you know what, I do think the NBA had to save face and let orlando win so you take your cockyness and you go right back to were you came from you Men in Black monster. Talkin shit to me like I am coming out of left field, workin my ass up over this bullshit. You want dwight as a poster child, well now you have him you Loy Vaught look alike son of a bitch. Yeah you are much like that of Loy vaught, how does that make you feel tough guy. You just wait til kobe smashes Dwight. and I am real happy you got me worked up because I just calmed down looking at rachel nichols. I would bang that Strawberry Blonde whore. Giggity giggity guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeee

+1
The league doesn't acknowledge that the refs give superstar calls and while I wouldn't say the game is "rigged" certain teams do benefit more than others.
But it is widely known, and accepted, that superstars get calls that other players wont. For no reason other than their reputation.
Pharaoh 05-31-2009, 06:28 AM I and many others don't care that it's widely known and accepted.
Just because it's widely known and accepted doesn't make it right.
A foul is a foul regardless of the reputation of the dude committing said foul.
I understand that in a 50/50 situation 9 times out of 10 the superstar will get the call because the refs are using their judgement to decide what to do. That's fine with me. I understand it.
What ain't fine is the bullshit calls the refs make to bail superstars out. Many have been discussed but the Lebron v Mickael Pietrus call is not and never has been a 50-50 call. They bailed out Lebron because he's Lebron.
I vividly remember a game I saw a while back where the refs let 3 consecutive hacks go as "regular" players attempted to drive the lane. On the 4th trip down the floor a "star" player drove to the hoop out of control and was giving the call.
I was screaming at the TV. It's total bullshit and ruins the game IMO, especially when you have blatant crap calls in every game.
When you've got owners, coaches and players all asking for clarity or "transparency" you've got a problem.
Refs should be seen and not fucking noticed. Call it down the middle for all and go home. Ain't no one paying to see your no athletic-ability having ass.

Yeah sorry I didnt add that I hate that its accepted... It just frustrates me so much whenever I think about it, and how it will never be fixed.
It makes my head hurt thinking about how fucked it is.

lol
WTFchris 06-01-2009, 11:14 AM P is dead on. Calls should be the same regardless of the players involved. If the call is a complete coin flip, then you can let reputation decide the call. These aren't coin flip calls. They are complete superstar calls.
