Original 6 Hockey - what's not to love?
Tahoe 05-14-2009, 11:03 PM Fuck a Hawk
Zekyl 05-15-2009, 08:26 AM From what I remember, they play a younger version of the same type of game we play. Speed, puck handling, not trying to hit people through a wall, opposite of the Ducks. Does that sound right? I know that's how their young guys are.
I think you're right. They do play a lot like we do. And I think we have a couple of good advantages. We are a checking team and play a more physical game (albeit not anywhere close to the dirty Ducks) than they do. And at the same time we can go up and down and play open ice offense better than any team in the league.
Zekyl 05-15-2009, 11:12 AM Exactly, we have the guys to knock them around and throw them off their game (don't cross the middle without looking with Stuart or Kronwall on the ice), and at the same time we'd be more than happy to let them open up the ice and play their fast-paced game with Hossa, Zetterberg, and Datsyuk. Plus we've got some speedsters on our lower lines as well. I'm really loving Helm's game more and more each time I see him.
Tahoe 05-15-2009, 11:49 AM There was quite rivalry with the Hawks off and on over the decades. With that comes lots of hate. They are in the White Sox category of hatred for me.
We won the season series 4-2. I'm hoping the Wings put them away quickly.
Nice to NOT have to travel so far for an away game.
I used to HATE the Hawks. It was Chicago that got us to start really cheering during the National Anthem. We did it to compete with them. And I still want kick Dennis Savard in the nuts anytime I see him on TV.
MoTown 05-15-2009, 04:38 PM I'll tell you what: The Hawks hate the Wings. The Wings are everything the Hawks want to be. And that's what scares me. And something that scares me even more: Scotty Bowman works for the Hawks. He knows the Red Wings inside and out.
Tahoe 05-15-2009, 04:50 PM I forgot about that...I hate Scotty Bowman now too.
DrRay11 05-15-2009, 06:33 PM Fuck Scotty Bowman!
Glenn 05-15-2009, 07:23 PM Take is duck whistle, turn it sideways...
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-17-2009, 09:20 AM There are some people I really hate on the Blackhawks...guys like Byfuglien and Ben Eager...neither of them are great players, but they do stupid "Varejao" things that make you hate them with great passion.
I'm ready for some hockey!
I want this first game to be lopsided in the Wings favor, so that the guys at work have nothing to say about it. I don't want some 'well it was close, and they were in Detroit' bullshit. I want 'yeah, don't want to talk about it' coming out of their mouths tomorrow.
Our defense is playing like butt so far.
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 03:35 PM Cleary with the wrister!
Also, I have no idea if that was a wrister or a slapper, but I like to say all that Hockey stuff.
Ok, now we need to do some more forechecking!
Wrister.
Exciting game so far. The D still needs to stop giving the Hawks opportunities like they are, but the offense and puck control is starting to come around.
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 03:53 PM Yeah, we need to pressurize more zones
Yeah, we need to pressurize more zones
Sounds like a Taco Belll side effect to me.
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 04:18 PM I think by the end of this series I'll have an appropriate amount of hate for Khabibulen or however he spells his name.
DrRay11 05-17-2009, 04:32 PM "Playoff hockey is not for the faint of heart."
^^Truth.
Yeah. He's earnin his check though, gotta give him credit.
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 04:35 PM ^ fuck that :)
Fillpula looked shocked to be basically 1 on 1 with Khabi there
MoTown 05-17-2009, 04:40 PM Franzen is amazing. Best playoff performer I have ever seen...
DrRay11 05-17-2009, 04:41 PM That was a damn good play by Franzen.
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 04:41 PM Pressurizing zones will get you wraparounds
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 05:24 PM Blocker with the pad save! or something
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 05:41 PM Nice. Always nice to get the 1st one. NOW, I want the 2nd one as well.
Tahoe 05-17-2009, 05:43 PM Thats bullshit for that Hawk to cross check a guy twice when his penalty is meainingless. What a douche nozzle.
Well, a little closer than I'd have liked through 40+ minutes but I'm sure the Hawks fans at work won't want to talk much about this game.
I really wanted Cleary to get that last goal. He and Oz are right too, too many turnovers. Other than that, they played pretty well but that is what kept Chicago in this game for so long. I'm not worried because the Wings excel at puck control and minimizing turnovers better than anyone in the league. They need to get back to that style though. Also, it seemed like there was never a Wing in position for a rebound off the goalie; that really bugged me this game.
I only saw half the first and all of the third, but what a difference between the two series. The Ducks didn't leave an inch of ice open for the Wings. I agree on the turnovers (big time), but even then, with the Hawks going for an open ice, up and down game, we got a lot of odd-man rushes and good chances.
Zekyl 05-19-2009, 01:10 PM I was going to go home and watch this game with my dad, but I don't believe my parents have Versus. I love that I'm a huge hockey fan and I'm being alienated from the sport because I can't afford to pay extra for some crappy non-standard channel. It'd be one thing if it was a channel I'd watch all the time, but I'd only watch hockey on it, and I'm poor.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-19-2009, 02:33 PM I saw a report that Lilja is skating now...
Am I right to think that there is no way in hell he's going to take Ericsson's spot on the 3rd paring w/ Lebda, or does Babcock play the seniority system?
WTFchris 05-19-2009, 02:48 PM No way Ericsson sits. Not after the big minutes he's played and played well. If Lilja plays it will be at the expense of Lebda.
RegicideGreg 05-19-2009, 03:00 PM I've been trying to get so cheap tickets to the game all night but I keep getting robbed on ebay.
I'm ready for this shit. I hope we got our act together from the start. BTW, nobody at work has been eager to talk hockey like they were last week lol.
WTFchris 05-19-2009, 06:32 PM I'm ready for this shit. I hope we got our act together from the start. BTW, nobody at work has been eager to talk hockey like they were last week lol.
Try working in Colorado. Nobody to talk Wings with, that is for sure.
I'm in the same boat, just so happens that the local team is on the other side of the puck this week. Guys at work tend to forget I'm a Wings fan, and they'll start talking about the Hawks game. I think they've finally remembered though :D
DrRay11 05-19-2009, 07:42 PM Shit is as intense as fuck already.
DrRay11 05-19-2009, 07:51 PM Power play! let's do this bitches
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 07:51 PM Hawks with too many women on the ice.
LETS DO DIS!
DrRay11 05-19-2009, 08:02 PM shit.
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 08:03 PM Yeah, Sammy had a chance to clear that one and didn't get er done.
So Ericcson is good, huh? I don't follow it that much, but I haven't been impressed.
Franzen, on the other hand, GOD!
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 08:59 PM 2-1 Wings
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 09:00 PM Cleary is damn good.
DrRay11 05-19-2009, 09:46 PM Fuckass... that was a poor sequence, should've had it cleared a couple of times.
DrRay11 05-19-2009, 09:50 PM Hudler had an easy goal there. fuck.
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 09:51 PM Get one here.
DrRay11 05-19-2009, 10:05 PM Feckkk.
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 10:24 PM Stay in the fickin net Ozzie
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 10:25 PM YES
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 10:26 PM Nice play for Filp to give that puck up right there.
WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Not entirely happy about the game, but I'll take the win. Really nice puck handling on the 3 on 1.
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 10:29 PM Just take 1 of 2 in the Windy
Tahoe 05-19-2009, 10:32 PM If you watch that play it looked like Sammy wasn't going to follow the play back at the Hawks blue line. Then he took off late and it made the dif.
MoTown 05-19-2009, 10:40 PM I love this team.
Jmich24 05-20-2009, 01:47 AM Just got home from game two. Unbelieveable, the place was electric. I sat in the 2nd row. It was super cool to players that close. Noramally am in the upper deck when i make it down to the Joe. I didnt have to pay for the tickets ($195 face value) A price i am to cheap to pay that kind of money. But, after the game tonight i will gladly pay that in the future to see Finals game. Originally I was bumed because the Wings only shot our end in the second, but when the game went into OT the goal was down our end and they celebrated right in front our seats. Couple of notes Rafalski (5-10) is tiny and Erickson (6-4) is huge and will be a beast if he fills out and get a mean streak. A lot of blackhawk fans made the trip as expected. :we: should win the cup again.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-20-2009, 10:58 AM Do you think Samuelsson is making a strong case to the point where Holland looks at re-signing him?
I figured him to walk as a UFA for sure, but he's making a serious surge to boost his stock. Somebody else will surely throw more money his way, but I suppose that even if Hossa leaves, the front office will focus more on locking up Hudler long-term and signing a differnt FA before they try and re-up Mikael.
Of course these are all good problems to have if your Holland/Nill/Devallano. This organization has world class depth.
Leino, Helm, Abdelkader, Ericsson---all 4 of these guys have to be guaranteed spots next season. One could make the same case for Derek Meech, but I don't see as much upside with him.
Zekyl 05-20-2009, 12:15 PM Why signing a different FA? What other FA would they look at before him if Hossa walks? I do agree that they'll want to lock up Hudler, and I would love to see that happen because he keeps improving every year and could be a great young piece to have.
Ericsson looks like a top 4 defensman right now, no question. Meech would probably be on that 3rd pairing next year if he was on the opening day roster. Is Rafalski a FA after this year? I could see Ericsson stepping into his place, with Meech taking over Cheli's spot competing for that 3rd pairing with Lebda and Lilja (unless we gave Lilja a 1 year deal, I don't remember).
No way Helm isn't on the roster next year, and at the lowest he'll be on the 3rd line. He could make a strong case to be on the 2nd but we just have so much depth that it would be hard, especially if we brought Hudler and/or Hossa back.
I thought Leino would get the playoff call-up before Abdelkader, but I like what I've seen from Abdelkader thusfar.
In order to think of who makes the team, you have to think of who will be gone, though. That part can wait until after the playoffs.
WTFchris 05-20-2009, 01:07 PM They have to choose between Hossa or Hudler and Sammy basically. I think they could keep both for the price of Hossa.
Given the depth Zekyl mentions, I would think they would go with Hossa (better overall player) and use that extra roster spot on a youngster. I'd really like to see them get rid of Maltby. i'd rather have Sammy for that money.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-20-2009, 03:15 PM Rafalski has 3 years left.
I wonder if they could move Brad Stuart? That way they could pair Ericsson with Kronwall and have Meech & Lebda be the 3rd pairing. Let Lilja walk and Chelios really is just veteran roster fodder and a healthy scratch on most nights.
As far as other FA's, say Hossa walks, maybe they'll try and get Mats Sundin on a 1 year deal so he can win his cup and retire.
I wouldn't mind Samuelsson coming back, he's just not somebody I'd overpay for. Leino could put up equal or better regular season numbers than Sammy, so he's not irreplaceable.
I agree with you on Maltby, too. At some point the Wings are going to have to cut their ties with some of the 10+ year vets. Just be thankful he hasn't become a liability to the point where it's hurt us having him on the ice.
WTFchris 05-20-2009, 04:40 PM I don't know about your defense theory. I think we need Stuart or Lilja here. Your 6 man pairings are fine, but we have no depth then. I'd say we'd need to get another young D (Kindl) some playing time with the big club and we could move Stuart at the deadline if that player shows he can stick.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-20-2009, 06:27 PM It's a shame we had to let go of Quincey. I wonder if they could do it all over again if they wouldn've let Meech go instead.
Q had 38 pts and a modest -5 on a very inexperienced and bad team.
hay guise y r u not taklin bout d seeries!!1!
Anyway, the game, or series at that, was not mentioned at work today which is good enough for me.
Part of me thinks that Chi will come out on fire Friday and take that game. The other half of me thinks that the Wings know that, and knowing that a 3-0 hole will kill what morale they have left, will also come out playing balls out. If the Wings go up 3-0, I could probably score some cheap Sunday tickets.
Tahoe 05-20-2009, 08:51 PM It will definately be an early RUSH
phone call bye
But the Wings should be able to handle that early rush. I'm just hoping the team isn't the type of team to read newspapers that say how GREAT of an organization the Wings are it goes to their heads. It sure doesn't seem like it.
jturbo 05-20-2009, 09:50 PM Rafalski has 3 years left.

Stuart has a NTC in his contract, I don't think he's going anywhere.
I'm ready, and probably get to work all weekend so this is my one time to enjoy the next 3 days outside of game 4.
DrRay11 05-22-2009, 08:02 PM Going up to a bar to watch this, hold down the fort boys.
Kronwall just knocked that mofo out COLD!!!
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 08:40 PM Holy shit
Keep your head up
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 08:41 PM Also, MILF cleavage in the background
ANOTHER PP THE SECOND THE 5 MIN PP ENDED!!! BULLSHIT
MoTown 05-22-2009, 08:53 PM Well Chicago spent 13 minutes of the first period on the PP.
That was a bullshit call. Even the announcers are saying that the refs need to call the game the evenly. Bullshit.
BULLSHIT.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:04 PM Just call both series right now and let Detroit Red Wings play the Gl'enn Penguins right now.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:06 PM SHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:07 PM I don't know a lot about hockey so lemme ask, would this be a time to put in another goalie?
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:07 PM Not that its Ozzie's fault or anything like that.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:36 PM Finally got one.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:44 PM WTF...I was making the wife a Gin and Tonic and we tied this bizatch
jturbo 05-22-2009, 09:45 PM Bettman will not stand for this!
and the Chicago fans boo lol
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:52 PM SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 09:53 PM Hawk fans are about to cry.
Let the chips fall in the 3rd.
jturbo 05-22-2009, 10:15 PM Hawks have a new goalie?
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 10:16 PM Started the 3rd. They said he hasn't played since Easter vs the Wings.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 10:35 PM Frickin turnover at the blue line and they burned our good line out just trying to clear the puck
Considering the score earlier, can't say I'm not happy about OT.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 10:43 PM Don't know the shots on goal in the 3rd but I wish we would have put a lil more pressure on him. Then again... I missed some of the 3rd....maybe we did.
There were some good chances, but a lot of shots went wide too.
Tahoe 05-22-2009, 10:59 PM Fuck couldn't clear
At least we made a game of it :emo kid:
WTFchris 05-23-2009, 02:41 AM Kronwall just knocked that mofo out COLD!!!
That hit was not worse than the one the Ducks player put on Hudler. It was pretty close to a clean play (if his elbow hit the shoulder instead of the head).
That hit was absolutely 100% clean. If it was not legal, hockey is not the sport that I grew up loving and playing.
WTFchris 05-23-2009, 02:50 AM to me you could call an elbowing penalty, but that's it. The only reason he got tossed was because the dude was knocked out. If he gets up that's a 2 minute minor. It's BS.
WTFchris 05-23-2009, 02:52 AM There's an official hate on between these two clubs that was guaranteed after Wings blue-liner Niklas Kronwall (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=2127) laid out Hawks star winger Martin Havlat (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=353) at 13:08 of the second period with perhaps the biggest hit since Scott Stevens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=889) pummeled Paul Kariya (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=434) at center ice in the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals.
Havlat laid on the ice for several minutes after the hit and would be forgiven if he thought he was still playing for Ottawa. He left the game and is obviously questionable for Game 4 on Sunday although he was of course listed as day to day. You'd need your leg to be cut off not to be listed as "day to day" in the playoffs. Starting goalie Nikolai Khabibulin (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=445), by the way, is also "day to day" with a "lower body" injury.
Kronwall got a five-minute interference major and a game misconduct for the hit on Havlat. From our vantage point, it was a clean but vicious hit. A league official explained the call by saying because Havlat didn't have control of the puck so it was interference.
The two coaches sounded like they were describing different plays when discussing the call after the game.
"It's a dangerous hit when you haven't touched the puck," said Hawks coach Joel Quenneville. "It was a hard hit. A dangerous hit when you still haven't touched it."
When asked about the five-minute major, Quenneville said: "I think it was the right call. He hadn't touched the puck. He left his feet. It was a tough hit."
Wings coach Mike Babcock was listening to Quenneville's news conference in another room.
"It's amazing how two people that know each other and see things similar a lot of times can see things so different," said Babcock. "You know, the bottom line is, the puck came around the wall. Havlat had it in between his legs. Kronwall didn't leave his feet. He did it on the follow through. He just finished the check. He hit the guy fair and square. ...
"It takes one of your good players [Kronwall] out of the game right off the hop," added Babcock. "In my opinion, it was absolutely the wrong call. It was actually a good finished check."
If the guy shakes off the check and stands up. Kronwall doesn't even get a penalty on the play.
Glenn 05-23-2009, 12:05 PM It would be fun to see the reaction here if it were a RW that got popped instead.
It would be fun to see the reaction here if it were a RW that got popped instead.
I would have wanted someone to fuck him up, sure... but I still wouldn't have said it was illegal because it wasn't.
Tahoe 05-23-2009, 01:52 PM I started laughing, then I noticed that he might be hurt, but once I knew he wasn't dead, I started laughing again.
It would be fun to see the reaction here if it were a RW that got popped instead.
All three of the announcers and the guy they went to at the broadcast center said they were baffled as to why it was called a penalty. Not to mention the linesmen didn't put their hands in the air (indicating a penalty to be called the next time the Wings touched the puck) so they didn't think it was a penalty until they discovered the guy couldn't walk.
It'd be fun to see what you would post if you ever actually watched the games.
MoTown 05-23-2009, 03:39 PM It'd be fun to see what you would post if you ever actually watched the games.
pwnd!
Big hits are part of the game, Gl'enn, no matter what team you cheer for. When Hudler was hit earlier in the playoffs, I didn't think it was necessarily dirty, but it was in the gray area where it could have been considered late. This hit wasn't even gray area. Havlat was stupid for keeping his head down and not even controlling the puck. Kronwall shouldn't have to pussyfoot around because Havlat is being an idiot.
micknugget 05-23-2009, 04:30 PM I have watched a shitload of commentary on this. The best one was on tsn.ca where one of the guys said that everyone that he asked who wasn't a Blackhawk fan or the official who made the call said that it was a clean hit and that the penalty was a joke. It's sad when you can't even get one unbiased commenator anywhere to say it was a penalty yet the Wings get hosed again.
Glenn 05-23-2009, 04:34 PM I don't have a problem with the hit at all, I was just thinking about the flip side reaction.
I'm sure that Kris Draper didn't have a problem with it, either.
Also, lol@Fool
MoTown 05-23-2009, 10:26 PM I'm sure that Kris Draper didn't have a problem with it, either.
Nice attempt.
Tahoe 05-24-2009, 03:37 PM Frickin penalties. Kill this thing.
Tahoe 05-24-2009, 03:40 PM LOL...gotta love being shorthanded.
1-0 Wings
Tahoe 05-24-2009, 04:02 PM Franzen! Beautiful shot.
2-0 Wings
Workin while I'm watchin, blah.
Anyway, hell yeah!
5-1. Don't think Chicago will pull this one out.
Tahoe 05-24-2009, 05:30 PM The Hawks are losing it. They're just playing dirty now. Bunch of punks. I've never really respected them, so I can't say I'm losing respect for them. This is what I expect from them.
Tahoe 05-24-2009, 05:40 PM 6-1
Fuck a Hawk!
Tahoe 05-24-2009, 05:42 PM The Wings were just toying with them for about 5 mins there.
Big Swami 05-24-2009, 06:25 PM Man, Hawks coaching really came apart today.
Zip Goshboots 05-24-2009, 10:58 PM There's nothing better than seeing Chicago teams get their dicks handed to them.
Zekyl 05-24-2009, 11:51 PM Damn that was a good game to watch. I enjoyed every minute of it. I have never seen a team lose their composure as much as the Hawks did. Ridiculous.
That was seriously a GTFO game if I ever saw one. Message to the rest of the league... don't piss the Wings off. The Hawks coach blamed the whole game on the refs. Worse than coaches usually do, and in this case it was so blatantly obvious that his players deserved 90% of the calls they got. He probably just hates the Wings because no matter what team he is coaching, we send his ass home.
I'll save glen the trouble of posting.
Funny to see what you and Kris Draper would say if you were wearing Blackhawk jerseys.
lol
I'd say please bring Vaseline to the next game.
Glenn 05-25-2009, 07:22 AM re: #131
"Your" team wins big, and that's the best you've got?
micknugget 05-25-2009, 09:16 AM I lost every ounce of respect that I had for the Chicago coach. Quinnville has been around for a while and when his players acted like a bunch of thugs all he could do was complain that the refs stole the game withbad calls? Was he at game 3? You know, the call that everyone outside of Chicago said was absolute bullshit?
Babcock was absolute class after game 3 and Quinnville was an absolute clown after game 4. I'm just glad that this series may be over very soon.
Tahoe 05-25-2009, 12:20 PM BTW...What happened to Dats and Lidstrom? I didn't remember them being hurt in G3. Or did they get hurt in practice?
micknugget 05-25-2009, 01:51 PM BTW...What happened to Dats and Lidstrom? I didn't remember them being hurt in G3. Or did they get hurt in practice?
Dats hurt his foot blocking a shot. Lidstrom has a "lower body injury" and both guys are day-to-day. Since the Wings played just fine without them I'm not too worried, at leadt for this series.
Tahoe 05-25-2009, 02:48 PM I'm rewatching the game on NHL network and Kronwall's hit on Kane or Cane was great at the end of the 1st. It caused the dust-up that got walker tossed for the start of the 2nd that lead to a goal.
But I expect Kron to introduce himself to Crosby or Cosby or whatever that guys name is in Pittsburg too.
Kronwall is not dirty at all, just good clean hockey.
Tahoe 05-25-2009, 06:19 PM Dats hurt his foot blocking a shot. Lidstrom has a "lower body injury" and both guys are day-to-day. Since the Wings played just fine without them I'm not too worried, at leadt for this series.
Thanks. I'm not sure I'd want any hobled player to play this next game vs Chicago. I think it will be a lil chippy out there.
WTFchris 05-27-2009, 04:30 PM Nick and Pavel out for Wings tonight.
Khabibulin and Havlet out for Hawks.
jturbo 05-27-2009, 08:07 PM WTF!! Ericsson isn't playing? Appendix? FUCK!
Damn... we've had a lot of good shots so far. No way their goalie keeps this up if we keep the pressure on.

Silly to make it go to OT like that. Those Wings, always playing around.
Zekyl 05-28-2009, 04:06 PM Sometimes you just want to give your opponent some hope before you snatch it away. Was there ever any doubt?
WTFchris 05-28-2009, 04:13 PM There is always doubt in OT. One bad bounce spells doom. The way Ozzie was playing though I felt like even if they had a bad turnover that he'd bail them out.
