If it has real cane sugar it'll be better. Still terrible for you, but High Fructose Corn Syrup is the devil.

That's the idea, actually. The Throwback sodas are all cane sugar.

I drink one of those Mexican (or Passover) Cokes now and all it does is give me a huge headache. Tastes good though.

Pepsi has never been good. I don't care when it's a throwback to, it still tastes like flat coke. I'd rather have off brand Kroger, Meijer, RC, Faygo, etc Cola before Pepsi.

Pepsi has no bite. It's the Detroit Lions of Cola. Weak ass shit product, but somehow it still sells to the masses.

I like Diet Pepsi, but not regular Pepsi or Coke.

BTW, I like Mtn Dew, so it's not a vendetta against the company like I have with AOL and Sprint.

I just don't like my Cola to taste like it's been sitting with the top off all day.

Pepsi is definitely smoother. Coke is overcarbonated and you want to fucking belch after every drink. I usually drink Coke but mostly because I drink it slowly.

Took me at least 10 years to stop saying pop.

I prefer Diet Coke but regular Pepsi.

no shit. Or they just like having metabolic syndrome.

in case you are wondering, this is from a study done by the University of Texas:

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

the risk of developing metabolic syndrome was 34 percent higher among those who drank one can of diet soda a day compared with those who drank none.

Pepsi Thowback uses beet sugar from :our: very own Michigan Sugar Company in Bay City, MI. Drink it and support our Michigan companies.

Where are you getting Pepsi Throwback stuff? I'll take sugar over HFCS anyday. I haven't seen it at my local Kroger, but I haven't been looking too hard for it.

I'm with ya on this, Moxie. My buddy tells me that you can get pop with SUGAR as opposed to HFCS in Mexico. Apparently, the farmers lobby is so powerful they can posion the shit out of people here when in Mexico they can't (at least with pop).

Also, I read a lil blurb in one or another fitness magazine that all forms of corn syrup and/or fructose are poison.

Zip that theory is myth. Corn syrup is nothing more than sugar in a cheaper form really. It's like comparing dr. pepper to dr. m, both are pop but one is cheaper and of lower quality.

Had throwback for the first time today, it's good but not radically different.

And now for something slightly different:

Pepsi Natural

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y174/oobir/pepsi.jpg

They had this at Sam's Club at $12 for a 12-pack, so I decided to pick up a box. It's a different class of Pepsi than Throwback, using "all-natural" ingredients in addition to sugar. It also contains kola nut extract for an added dash of authenticity. As you can see, it's much lighter than regular cola, probably due to using apple extract as one of its colorings. I think the bottle is pretty nice, as bottles go - solid and nicely proportioned, like an old Coke bottle. Speaking of which, here's something else that was at that store:

Mexican Coca-Cola

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y174/oobir/cocacola.jpg

These were a little cheaper per bottle, but they were in a 24-pack - it cost $20 for the privilege of owning it. Yes, this is the famed Coke made with sugar instead of HFCS, and it seemed right to compare the two. Here's what I found out.

The Pepsi has a mild odor, much like other "natural" colas. First impression of the flavor is that it's fairly smooth and lacks a bit in the carbonation department, though not enough to call it flat. Second impression is that the flavor is more complex than usual. It has a mild fruitiness, probably due to the apple extract, plus some bitter nuttiness, from the kola nut I'd guess. It's a perfectly drinkable combo, but some people wouldn't like it because of the fruit/nut aftertaste. Other people who tried it said it tastes like Coca-Cola, but I don't get that impression at all. It's like a Whole Foods-style cola, though probably a bit less harsh. Overall, it's good, and a decent alternative to ordinary cola.

The Mexican Coke looks and smells pretty much like regular Coke, and that carries over to its flavor. It's not exactly the same - it's smoother, indeed more so than the Pepsi Natural - but the flavor is practically identical to regular Coke otherwise. It's definitely more comparable to Pepsi Throwback, which I also thought was very similar to its common counterpart. In fact, other people who tried it compared it to Pepsi, and I see where they're coming from. I think it's better than Pepsi, and it's ever-so-slightly better than regular Coke, but it's not a significant difference. I have to say that it's a bit overrated.

If you like a complexity to your pop, go for the Pepsi; if not...go for a regular Coke, since the Mexican variety is too expensive to justify its slightly better qualities. (Ahead of both I would recommend Grown Up Soda's Dry Cola, which I found at a Hiller's Market, but that's neither here nor there.)
