View Full Version : Lions Draft Re-do MoTown 04-26-2009, 08:15 PM Alright, knowing what other players were available when the Lions drafted, if you could do the Lions draft over, who would you have picked? Tahoe 04-26-2009, 08:51 PM This is a lil harder than what you'd think it is. MoTown 04-26-2009, 10:23 PM I was only thinking first two or three rounds, to be honest. MoTown 04-26-2009, 10:34 PM #1: Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forrest #20: Michael Oher, LT, Ole Miss #33: Louis Delmas, S, Western Michigan #65: Jarron Gilbert, DT, San Jose State #82: Chase Coffman, TE, Mizzou I feel like all five of those guys would be starters next season. Instead we drafted two starters. FillyCheezeSteak 04-26-2009, 10:48 PM #1 - Jason Smith, LT, Baylor #20 - Alex Mack, C, California #33 - Rey Maualaga, MLB, USC #65 - Craig Urbik, G, Wisconsin #82 - Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin Now I know its insanely unrealistic to draft 3 OL that would be expected to start, but Smith, Mack and Urbik paired with Cherilus would give us a great, youthful line for the future and Culpepper would have a weapon in Beckum that can stretch the field and Rey could be the face of our defense. Tahoe 04-26-2009, 10:50 PM We could have went... Curry Jerry DT Delmas and made our D way better right up the middle. Tahoe 04-26-2009, 10:52 PM 20 is a tough pick. Tahoe 04-26-2009, 10:53 PM J Smith Pettigrew Brace DT 3 guys for the trenches Tahoe 04-26-2009, 10:54 PM Curry Vontae Davis Brace DT Tahoe 04-26-2009, 11:12 PM Stafford Pettigrew Lauranaitus Staff Oher Lauranaitus ^ I've posted that one about a million times on this board. DrRay11 04-26-2009, 11:37 PM Stafford, Oher, Maualuga, T.J. Lang, D.J. Moore, Sammie Lee Hill, Michael Ray Garvin, Zack Follet. lol I don't know, we'll just have to see how it plays out. b-diddy 04-26-2009, 11:59 PM i wouldnt change a thing... Tahoe 04-27-2009, 12:20 AM I did not like Williams in the 4th and the TE in the 7th AT ALL! Zekyl 04-27-2009, 09:00 AM With a late 7th round pick, you just have to grab the best player available. I don't fault them for a 7th rounder. b-diddy 04-27-2009, 09:11 AM right. if your upset with the 2nd to last pick in the draft, then this draft must be atleast ok. WTFchris 04-27-2009, 10:35 AM yeah, I'm not going to complain about 6th and 7th rounders really. The only pick I didn't like was Levy. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but he just seems like a special teams player and there were guys (Duke Robinson) that could contribute regularly. DrRay11 04-27-2009, 10:37 AM The 7th rounders were great picks at the spot we got them. Very talented guys that could be coached into starters. Murtha is extremely athletic for an OT, Follett hits like a missile, and Gronkowski... well... let's just say that pick didn't make any sense. I guess he's our 3rd TE and Gaines and Fitz are gone. I still hate our 3rd rounders the worst... Zekyl 04-27-2009, 12:48 PM Murtha will be a backup. Maybe one day he figures it out and we get him to live up to his potential, but at this point he's just OL depth. I'm fine with that for where he was drafted. Follett looks like he's got some serious potential and in the very least he can be a special teams force to be reckoned with. Tahoe 04-27-2009, 12:49 PM Murtha is always injured, is his biggest problem. kdawg32086 04-29-2009, 05:52 PM Round 1: 1) Matthew Stafford QB Georgia 20) Michael Oher LT Ole Miss Round 2: 33) Max Unger C/G Oregon Round 3: 76) Ladarius Webb CB Nicholls State 82) Travis Beckum TE Wisconsin Round 4: 115) Jason Phillips ILB TCU Round 6: 192) Ra'Shon Harris DT Oregon Round 7: 228) Jamarca Sanford S Ole Miss 235) Zack Follett OLB Cal 255) Jeremiah Johnson RB Oregon Jethro34 04-29-2009, 09:36 PM This draft gives us the infrastructure to be able to add a couple other missing pieces and skill positions next season to make a perennial playoff team. Round 1: 1) Jason Smith OT Baylor 20) Peria Jerry DT Mississippi Round 2: 33) Rey Maualuga MLB USC Round 3: 76) Kraig Urbik OG Wisconsin 82) Derrick Williams WR Penn State Round 4: 115) DJ Moore CB Vanderbilt Round 6: 192) Will Davis DE Illinois Round 7: 228) Lydon Murtha OT Nebraska 235) Graham Harrell QB Texas Tech 255) Mitch King DE Iowa Zekyl 04-29-2009, 09:54 PM I'd swap that Graham Harrell pick for Follett at this point. We're not the type of team to take a 7th round QB and strike gold by developing the shit out of him. |
