Wilfredo Ledezma 04-20-2009, 10:28 AM What's with Dusty?
He's hitting .120 points higher than Matt Treanor, at least.
MoTown 04-20-2009, 10:54 AM IBMC
It's actually a misprint:
Dusty Ryan: .720.
It's hard to hit 1.000 when you're also ridding the world of terrorism. Give the guy a break.
MoTown 04-26-2009, 02:45 PM So Treanor is hurt and they call up Dane?
WTF?!?!?!??! Do the Tigers not like winning games?
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-12-2009, 01:51 PM As of June 11...
Here are some updated numbers on some of the Tigs top 30 prospects and a few non-prospects like Ruddy Lugo, Don Kelly, and Mike Hessman who could get called up at some point during the season

SINGLE A LAKELAND
Scott Green- 3-1, 3.92 ERA, 20 K, 10 BB
and I'm too lazy to look up Casey Crosby, Charlie Furbush, Brandon Hamilton and Jeff Gerbe's numbers...but there ya go
Glenn 06-12-2009, 02:01 PM 14 SB for Don Kelly?
Damn.
darkobetterthanmelo 06-12-2009, 02:08 PM I like that we finally have options at catcher with Dusty/Avila
MoTown 06-15-2009, 12:17 PM So... umm... why isn't Dusty in a Tiger's uniform?
darkobetterthanmelo 06-15-2009, 12:46 PM Gerald Laird's arm/cooperation with pitchers
Glenn 06-15-2009, 12:48 PM How about his butt/gut?
But I agree, he's been better than I thought he'd be when he's not in the batter's box.
MoTown 06-15-2009, 01:02 PM I have no problem with Laird's defense. He's great back there. But that just makes it even more pointless that Dane is up. Dusty was a solid defensive catcher, and was hitting well last year. Why not split the time, or even give Laird 60% of the starts. I would bet that Dusty can develop into a better offensive threat that Laird.
darkobetterthanmelo 06-15-2009, 01:09 PM Dusty gets more at bats in Toledo
Glenn 06-15-2009, 01:14 PM Dusty gets more (meaningless) at bats in Toledo
darkobetterthanmelo 06-15-2009, 02:06 PM Meaningless at bats >>> sit 4 games play 1
Glenn 06-15-2009, 02:14 PM If he can help the Tigers win 1 out of every 4 games, then it's a lot more than he's helping them win right now.
Vinny 06-15-2009, 05:09 PM I kind of think Dusty's being overrated a tad. This time last year he was a non-prospect just starting to hit a little.
WTFchris 06-15-2009, 05:44 PM I kind of think Dusty's being overrated a tad. This time last year he was a non-prospect just starting to hit a little.
Watch it...
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-15-2009, 08:40 PM I wouldn't mind seeing Dusty up here, but it wouldn't make sense if Laird were still to be the full-time catcher...
MoTown 06-15-2009, 10:40 PM I kind of think Dusty's being overrated a tad. This time last year he was a non-prospect just starting to hit a little.
You better sleep with one eye open tonight...
In all honesty, I'm not expecting Dusty to come out and be an All-Star. I'm just thinking we're wasting time with Dane, Laird is a solid defensive catcher but bad in the box, and Dusty is young enough that he would be good to come out and learn while playing at the Major League level. He might even cause us to win some games that Sardinha would lose.
If he gets in and plays 2 to 3 games a week, that's better than facing Minor League pitching every day.
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-16-2009, 11:14 AM Dusty has alot of upside. Some prospects are late bloomers (Galarraga for example).
It's easy to see why Sardinha is here, since they want Dusty to get regular AB's, but the only issue is that why does it have to be Sardinha?
Paul Bako, Chad Moeller, Sal Fasano---all journeyman who make a living going from team-to-team playing as the #2 catcher. And all 3 of those guys, plus many more, are far more competent at the plate than Dane is.
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-16-2009, 11:16 AM Can you believe that Sardinha was once considered the next Johnny Bench when the Reds drafted him?
He is the 'Darko' of Cincinnatti. He never even got an AB for the Reds.

That's not really fair. At least Darko occasionally puts up decent numbers.

Wilfredo Ledezma 07-10-2009, 09:48 AM For the record, Scott Sizemore is our only representative in the Futures Games this week in St. Louis.
He might be the reason we don't re-sign Polanco after this year since both him and Will Rhymes are both having great seasons.
MoTown 07-10-2009, 09:56 AM Just making sure - there's no relation to Grady, correct?
MoTown 07-10-2009, 09:57 AM And how is Iorg hitting .222? Is this guy ever going to live up to the hype?
