View Full Version : Official 2009 Pistons "Operation: Shitstorm" thread
Cross 04-01-2009, 07:46 PM "It took two games and already Allen Iverson is fuming about coming off the bench. Rasheed Wallace was finally back after missing 11 games because of a left calf injury, but he'll sit out again tonight in New Jersey after picking up his 16th technical foul Tuesday in the Pistons' 79-73 loss to the Cavaliers. 'How many minutes did I play,' Iverson said after he scored 11 with three turnovers in 18 minutes. 'It seemed way, way, way less than that. Eighteen minutes? Come on, man. I can play 18 minutes with my eyes closed. It's a bad feeling, man. I'm wondering what they rushed me to get back for? For that? It's a bad time for me mentally. I am just trying to get through it without starting a whole bunch of nonsense,' Iverson said, after initiating the conversation about his playing time. 'I'm looking at the big picture. If I vent my frustration then it's like, given who I am, I'll be the one everybody points the finger at. I am just going to try to laugh to stop from crying.'"
wasnt he suppose to be content with coming off the bench? i guess he was expecting like a ben gordon/manu/jet situation where hed be getting the amount of minutes with the starters...
If we don't get somebody awesome with all this cap space....
Joe Asberry 04-01-2009, 08:40 PM i prefer someone who can play interior defense and not give up 40+ points to the Nets in one half...
btw: fuck AI
Black Dynamite 04-01-2009, 10:31 PM This lil' pussy has no sense of team basketball. What he did off the bench was far more helpful than anything he's done in his 40+ minute chuck-a-thons. I was actually about to give him props for manning up and helping out in a more efficient way. Then he tells Eli Zaret that his only inspiration is the fact that his bench role is a short term situation, now this pussy ass shit.
At least Rip complained because we were losing under a way that wasn't working. AI is possibly the most selfish player to put on a Pistons jersey in a long time.
Tahoe 04-02-2009, 01:18 AM Sheed to join AI on the bench?
This could be a fun end to the season

Tahoe 04-02-2009, 01:19 AM Allen Iverson, who is coming off the bench and has played 18 or less minutes in his last two games, said after Wednesday's loss that he'd rather retire than come off the bench again next season.
"I'd rather retire before I do this again," Iverson said. "I can't be effective playing this way (off the bench and injured)...It's tough for me both mentally and physically. If I'm able to go out there, I should be able to get it done and I can't right now. It's my fault." Iverson, still dealing with a back and shin injury, may not get more than 20 minutes a night the rest of the way, and remains a prime shut-down candidate.
Tahoe 04-02-2009, 01:29 AM 5 is Curry hints at Keeping KB starting cuz he's playing good and Sheed coming off the bench.
fun stuff...and who knows with this bunch, it might work.
Glenn 04-02-2009, 03:58 AM This season can't end soon enough.
We're just biding time now.
Black Dynamite 04-02-2009, 07:24 AM lol...this is the most useful he's been for us in a role that fits, and he hates it win lose or draw. Furthermore i felt last night was a tank job on his part. After I was about to give him props, Dial just got done wrecking mclunksky in his favor and Kstat continuously felt vindicated in defending AI as a player that wasn't selfish, his mouth is on the run.
Just shut him down and take our chances.
Pharaoh 04-02-2009, 08:46 AM In the future failing to play the right way shall be known as Answering.
Get off my team you midget motherfucker.
Joe better get something worthwhile (Amare/Bosh - that level) because otherwise the trade wasn't worth it.
If this is how it's gonna end I wish we kept Chauncey. We might have struggled to win 50 games but at least all this bullshit wouldn't be going on.
WTFchris 04-02-2009, 10:38 AM Still want to play the Cavs in the first round Codename?
Cross 04-02-2009, 11:05 AM fuck i have the same reaction as kstat right now.
was happy that he was quiet about it but fuck this stubborn lil bitch
Black Dynamite 04-02-2009, 03:45 PM Still want to play the Cavs in the first round Codename?
You've been hanging around Gl'enny boy too much, i don't care who we play. Cavs, celts, magic does not matter. Alot of narrow minded bottleneck thinkers in here i guess. Can't remember it mattering to me if it were the cavs or not(somehow they are more important than the playoffs i guess now), but i see it sure does matter to some of the other supposed Pistons fans in here. Also last i checked we weren't exactly chopped liver when we did play the cavs a couple nights ago. I appreciated iverson's help, but it wasn't the deciding factor, so fucc him lets play whoever Cleveland included.
WTFchris 04-02-2009, 03:49 PM I just don't want to see the self destructing crap we saw last time against the Cavs (guys were picking up technicals left and right). If we lost, so be it, but it better be competitive at least.
Black Dynamite 04-02-2009, 03:53 PM I just don't want to see the self destructing crap we saw last time against the Cavs (guys were picking up technicals left and right). If we lost, so be it, but it better be competitive at least.
How do you draw more out of a playoff series two years ago than the last game we played them? That team was far more arrogant(not counting AI), and completely different for us and same can be said for the cavs.
Uncle Mxy 04-03-2009, 08:43 AM In the past three games:
Bynum: 60 minutes, 10-21 shooting, 7-8 FTs, 10 assists with 8 TOs, +12 +/-
Iverson: 56 minutes, 9-25 shooting, 5-9 FT, 8 assists with 6 TOs, -8 +/-
Glenn 04-03-2009, 12:13 PM McDyess becoming frustrated by uninspired efforts down the stretch
BY VINCE ELLIS • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • April 3, 2009
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Antonio McDyess dressed slowly and quietly Wednesday night in a scene that has become too familiar for the 13-year veteran this season.
The Pistons' record had just dropped to 36-39 after an uninspired effort in a 111-98 loss to the hapless New Jersey Nets at the Izod Center.
And although the Pistons are still holding on to seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race just ahead of No. 8 Chicago (36-40) and ninth-place Charlotte (34-41), for the first time the Pistons are questioning openly whether they will make the playoffs.
"It's frustrating because each night you don't know which team (is) going to show up," McDyess said. "And tonight it wasn't the Pistons team that you expect to show up against a team like Jersey.
"You expect us to come out here, when our backs already up against the wall, to beat a team like this and we lose by almost 20 points.
"I mean these last seven games? There's no question what we got to do."
The loss even had young players such as normally cocksure point guard Rodney Stuckey expressing doubt.
"We're running out of time, what do we have? Seven games left?" he said. "So yeah, each game that we play is very crucial for us. Hopefully we can get something going.
"A lot of people are frustrated right now and I'm one of them. This has been really frustrating, but I just have to play through it."
Even in good times, the Pistons might have been hard-pressed to beat the Nets because it was their fourth game in five nights.
The Pistons have another tough back-to-back this weekend when they play at Philly on Saturday and the Bobcats on Sunday. But after Philly, they have only one game left against a team with a winning record.
The Bulls have five of their six remaining games at home, while the Bobcats have five of seven on the road.
So the Pistons are still firmly in control of their destiny -- if they just believe it
"It's hard, it's tough -- especially when you fighting for dear life to get into the playoffs," Rip Hamilton said. "We've never been in this situation before so it's even that much harder. So we just got to stick together and hopefully try to get some wins."

??
Tahoe 04-03-2009, 12:17 PM This might be a first. The Pistons get into a brawl...with themselves. I'd seriously crack up. AI chokin Curry, Dice beatin Sheed down. Rip trying to punch AI. Ok, its not that funny.

Glenn 04-03-2009, 04:22 PM Rasheed Wallace won't start vs. 76ers
Ted Kulfan / The Detroit News
Auburn Hills-- Rasheed Wallace will return to the Pistons' lineup Saturday in Philadelphia, but he won't start.
Wallace served a suspension Wednesday in New Jersey for picking up his 16th technical foul of the season. The game against the Nets was only the second since Wallace returned from a left calf injury.
Kwame Brown has played well in Wallace's absence, and with Wallace's minutes still limited, coach Michael Curry will have Wallace coming off the bench.
"Especially if I'm going to play Sheed limited minutes, I'd rather he'd be in position to play the fourth quarter," Curry said.
The Pistons play in Philadelphia Saturday and host Charlotte Sunday. In Curry's estimation, those are two must-win games with the Pistons fighting for the playoffs. Curry doesn't mind the added pressure.
"You can go into the playoffs very sharp because you have to play sharp basketball to get into the playoffs," Curry said.

Allen Iverson to Miss Remainder of Season
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that guard Allen Iverson will miss the remainder of the season. The all-star guard missed 16 games between February 27 and March 28 after exiting a game at New Orleans with a sore back on February 25.
“After talking with Allen and our medical staff, we feel that resting Allen for the remainder of the season is the best course of action at this time,” said Dumars. “While he has played in our last three games, he is still feeling some discomfort and getting him physically ready to compete at the level he is accustomed to playing this late in the season does not seem possible at this point.”
Iverson returned to action on March 29 versus Philadelphia and scored eight points with two assists and two rebounds in 21 minutes. In his three games back since the initial injury, he has averaged 7.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.7 minutes per game.
Acquired by the Pistons from Denver on November 3, the 6-foot-0 guard has appeared in 54 games this season (50 starts) averaging 17.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 36.5 minutes per game.

Gimme cookie!!
Higherwarrior 04-03-2009, 06:42 PM not surprised or mad at him. he simply isn't 100% and he is NOT suited to coming off the bench. i said it all along; his game is NOT suited to playing few minutes and having high production.
he needs a lot of minutes and a lot of touches in order to get in the flow of the game. that's been the case his entire career and it baffles me to think that people are viewing him as 'selfish' simply because he is incapable of playing a reserve role. he tried and he failed at it- why are people mad and/or surprised?
he is who he is. i don't think he's been at all selfish or a bad teammate. he's simply said he isn't suited to such a role and because of this he would rather retire than return to such a role. he is obviously frustrated with how he's been handled too which i can't argue with- curry has no clue what he's doing and iverson is frustrated. we have way too much talent to be THIS bad this year.
MoTown 04-03-2009, 06:53 PM How's Curry doing? He has to have some sort of injury too. We should just shut him down for the remainder of the season as well.
Black Dynamite 04-03-2009, 07:50 PM he needs a lot of minutes and a lot of touches in order to get in the flow of the game. that's been the case his entire career and it baffles me to think that people are viewing him as 'selfish' simply because he is incapable of playing a reserve role. he tried and he failed at it- why are people mad and/or surprised?.
LOL...touches is an excuse. I've believed to be the first time he used that excuse when LB wanted to short his minutes some. The truth is that someone taught him that he can shoot his way out of anything, and by doing so he'll be Great. And that is true, unfortunately the cost to your team's ability to consistently compete(especially with any coach with less than 700 wins coaching him) is a ferocious trade off.
Also let me also say his skills look just fine to me, he just doesn't fit. I believe he's still a great scorer and star in this league, but never as a Piston. My hope was that he'd see how good we were w/o him and his ego would slim down a lil', but apparently wasn't enough to change what he spent double digit years building in his mind.
it baffles me to think that people are viewing him as 'selfish' simply because he is incapable of playing a reserve role. he tried and he failed at it-
I'm sorry but incapable? No he doesnt get that out, he's unwilling, he's more than capable. He was when we played cleveland, But something offset that when he came out in the 4th quarter, his ego got the best of him. The shitball is rolling fast down ever since.

You don't wanna play on a playoff team? You don't wanna fit in? You don't wanna help one of 2 teams (Spurs being the other) constantly recognised for their team work?
Then pack your shit and go be a superstar for some other fucking team that sucks monkey cunt.
What a pathetic human being. He couldn't be the go-to-guy so he wants to be the go-home-guy. I lost what little respect I had for him.

Black Dynamite 04-05-2009, 08:43 AM can someone create an AI Done emoticon for the list of emoticons?
Zekyl 04-12-2009, 10:46 AM Something we know for sure: Detroit's team demeanor has clearly picked up since Iverson agreed to a mutual parting for the rest of the season with Pistons president Joe Dumars after telling the world that he'd rather retire than come off the bench.
The Pistons have to know, though, that more changes are likely coming this offseason unless they can KO one of the East powers in the first round.
"We know," veteran forward Antonio McDyess said. "We don't talk about [the future], but we definitely know.
"We might joke around a time or two and say, 'Hey, I guess I won't be here next year.' That's just a joke, but we know that's a big question. Who is our next [veteran to go]?"
But here's another question: What happens if the Pistons do spring an upset? There's still some faint hope for Detroit to get up to No. 6 and force a first-round showdown with an Orlando team everyone knows is dreading that matchup.
One of the foremost Allen Iverson experts I know, having read last week's look at the limited free-agent market Iverson is likely looking at this summer, checked in to caution against the notion that A.I. might really retire at 34 if he can't find a palatable offer.
His theory is that, with time between now and the start of free agency on July 1, Iverson will eventually come to grips with the realities of a limited market in a bad economy. He contends there's "virtually no chance" Iverson won't decide to play on.
Which is only one man's opinion, of course, but one I consider an informed opinion for you to digest.
From the Daily Dime.
Glenn 04-27-2009, 10:28 PM In an attempt to keep this archive as complete as possible, here are a few updates:
Rip and Curry reportedly haven't been on speaking terms since Rip was moved to the bench.
Reports that Walter Sharpe missed numerous flights, practices and busses this year.
Reportedly, Sheed requested a buyout from the Pistons, but was refused his wish.
More to come as additional details leak!
