I've been surprised that Diaw has been as effective as he has without Nash.

It was D'Antoni's system that made him(and the other Suns players) successful, not Nash.

He's without D'Antoni' system and still doing quite well. :)

I just remember him in Atlanta... timid as hell, not much to speak of.

I too am surprised by Diaw's play - maybe LB and Jordan kicked his ass?

The guy has a great all-round game and could be a fucking amazing complimentary player if he was on a better team.

But the dude is more expensive than Hilary Duff's panties on e-bay.

Might convinve Kidd to stay cheap. Cuban would have some heavy taxes next year but might have a legit shot to make a title run provided people can stay healthy

Kidd, Terry, Howard, Dirk, Shaq

5 years ago, that's a scary lineup.

Apparently, Shaun Livingston signed a longterm deal with the Thunder. Low Risk high reward move. The Thunder have a really young core that could do some damage, esp if they land Blake Griffin.

I love when Mutombo goes third person.

Dikembe Mutumbo, 42 years old and one of the NBA's all-time good guys, started for the Rockets tonight with Yao Ming out. Mutumbo finished with 15 rebounds, 10 points and four blocks -- all of which were followed by his signature finger-wave to the crowd.

One of the blocks came against Anthony Randolph to start the second half, and the 19-year-old rookie was NOT happy that his dunk was rejected. He got the ball back, went right at Mutumbo ... got whistled for an offensive foul ... and pulled by Nellie.

My old colleague, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, passed along this fantastic quote from Mutumbo:

"We need NBA Classics to show more of the Mutombo games so some of the youngest guys can learn. Everybody is trying me. I don't know why. That young boy tried so hard. ... He kept telling me, 'I'm going to get you before the day's over.' It's too bad. He tried, but he didn't get a chance to dunk on Dikembe Mutombo. He's not going to be able tell his grandkids, 'I got Dikembe with one.'"

Deke must love it that these young kids today are fucking hopeless.

I remember before a playoff series Mutombo actually claimed Jordan had never dunked on him. What do you think happened? Jordan got him.

Chris Paul is just amazing -- 31-17-9 against Dallas today, made Kidd his bitch.

Boston Celtics' Ray Allen suspended for elbowing Anderson Varejao
Celtics guard Ray Allen was suspended one game without pay for elbowing Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao in the groin on Sunday, NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson announced on Tuesday.

by ESPN.com news services

I bet if he wanted to, Allen could get enough $ from NBA fans around the league to cover his lost pay for this.

Yeah, me neither.

Yeah you're going to tell me that somehow, in his fourth year (or whatever year it is), he went from being a below average coach to somehow figuring out how to be the best coach in the NBA?

You don't think it has something to do with the signing of another high-powered scorer and LeBron stepping up his game to the next level?

Let's give Wally the Sixth-Man Award while we're at it. I'm sure he's the reason they won 20-something more games than last year.

Fool
04-21-2009, 09:49 AM
I never thought he was below average. I think he's smart enough to know that the only thing he has to coach is defense when he has Lebron. Which is good for him because I don't think he can coach offense. Unfortunately, that puts him right about average in the league, maybe a little higher. I think I could find 15 coaches I would rather not have over him.

Tahoe
04-21-2009, 11:43 AM
His offensive coaching philosophy can be summed up in Mola's clipboard caption with Popp..."Pass to Tim" Brown's "Pass to LBJ"

Uncle Mxy
04-21-2009, 12:16 PM
Really, is that such a bad strategy to have?

I seem to recall "pass to Bird or Magic" as a really effective strategy for a couple teams in the 80s.

I don't think we can compare the Celtics of the 80s and the Lakers of the 80s to the Cavs of 2009. I hate LeBron with a passion, but he is single handedly taking that team to the Finals this year. It requires no coaching expertise to give the ball to LeBron, and when he has four guys on him, give it to Mo. That isnt' exactly a well thought out strategy.

I can name at least five other coaches who definitely deserved the award over him.

Fool
04-21-2009, 12:30 PM
Oh, he's not the best coach in the league, but then the COY seldom is.

I agree. Last time I checked the Cavs don't have Worthy, Kareem, Parish, Ainge or McHale on their team.

The Cavs are more like MJ's Bulls (more complementary players than anything).

Glenn
04-21-2009, 03:08 PM
Yeah, I like it when they give COY to the guy that does more with less.

That's big reason why, IMO, that a lot of the COY winners end up getting fired soon thereafter, it's such a fine line.

Adelman and SVG cam in 2nd and 3rd in the voting.

I liked the job that guys like Woodson, McMillan, DiLeo, DelNegro (and how about George freaking Karl) did than those three.

The fact that Hedo got a vote is a clear indication that this is not the NBA your Dad watched, it's not the NBA you grew up watching and it's not the NBA we watched 3 years ago.

It's fucking ballet!

How the flying fuck can that no D playing pussy get a vote? What a fucking joke. That guy has never EVER fucking played D EVER!

Fuck this league.

The trend is OFFENSE?

Do what we did the last time Stern tried this shit - we smacked the fuck out of people and hammered people into the ground. The whole league flipped. D became the way to play - running and gunning was for shitty Lotto teams and rookie punks that couldn't mess with Mahorn, Lamb, Rodman, Spider and Budda.

You remember that Joe? Weren't you there? Time to step the fuck up and make this team tough again. Pussy motherfuckers and their jumpshots. We need some hardcore beasts that don't just play D - they wanna smash fuckers and they ENJOY IT!!!!!

Like if Max does smash Lebron he's gotta stand over Lebron's prone body and talk the biggest bunch of trash any bench player has ever fucking spewed at "King James" (may God strike you down you disrespectful fuck).

When the golden boy gets up in Max's chest the Mad Man needs to push that cunt in the face and raise his big fucking fist. Max should shout "Come on you punk ass pussy bitch. I'll fucking kill you live on Global Television. Your boys can witness your fucking funeral, man"

Let's see how Lebron would respond to that shit. Go get Lil Mo - we'll get Kwame. Kwame can eat that fucker. Get Back, it's The Fat Kwame Brown. Go get Ben? You really think that old man is gonna fucking do anything in The Palace - with Sheed in the building?

Shit, Ben wouldn't even throw a towel this time.

Fuck this league, fuck the Cavs.

Let's Go Portland and Chicago? WTF

Fuck them cunts too

Time for Joe to do his fucking job and get some fucking hardcases in here to take ownership of this team and do what needs to be done. You might not like it but you all KNOW it needs to happen.
