Mayock was commentatin on the 3 USC LBs at USC's pro day.

He said Clay Mathews looked as fluid as a Safety today. He said he had great hip swivel, speed, etc. 4.57 40

Cushing's hips seemed a lil tight, but still a really good workout. Caught the ball well. 4.63 40 but Cush is 249. He thinks Cush is a sure 1st rounder also.

Mayock said Rey has to be inside. 4.70 40. But he's wondering if he's a 1st rounder cuz he might not be a 3 down guy.

Both Mathews and Cush played outside and had to cover the flats and rush the passer, so Mayock likes those 2 as 1st rounders.

So at 20 if Oher isn't there, or Beatty is rated as a starter by the Lions, we could take Mathews or Cush and take Beatty at 33.

Looks like 3 starters to me...eventual starters in Stafford, Cush or Mathews and Beatty.

Just some random fuckin thoughts.

nope. both those guys are OLBs. I'd rather get LT or DT at #20 and take James L with 33. That's better than playing a OLB out of position (haven't we done that enough lately?).

Yeah, there are really no point in taking any of those OLB's (Cushing, Mathews, etc) unless we are in a 3-4 (Cushing would probably do well as a 3-4 ILB).

How many LB's have we shifted around lately?

Dizon, Lewis, Lennon, Bailey, Lehman, Curry, Davis

The only guy that hasn't moved in the last 5 years is Sims.

Yea, y'all are right. I already have the 3-4 in my head. I hope we switch to it.

BTW, I really can't see the Lions taking Curry. As good as he may be, can they really sink that much money into LB with Peterson and Sims making big money too?

I think they need to get their MLB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

If it's not Stafford it will be Smith IMO.

Peterson will likely be around for 2 or 3 more years, max. I see Curry as a very legitimate possibility if (and only if) we trade for Cutler.

So Rey ran a 4.7 yesterday but he killed those 2 cone drills they do. So he is quicker than fast. Reading stuff on him, says he will deliver the blow. Sounds like an inside guy for sure.

Can he play the middle for us in 3rd down situations?

DrRay11

If we draft Maualuga, who is projected to be an effective 2 down guy and a questionable 3 down guy, I could see is putting in Dizon on a lot of 3rd down/long situations.

I have to agree with Mayock that a 1st round pick should be able to be a 3 down player.

Lauranaitus would have to come off too right? But I think he could be had at 33.

Laurinaitis, from what I've seen, could be better in pass coverage than Rey. But Rey is probably quite a lot more effective against the run. Honestly, if we don't take Curry, then I'd just wait until 65 to get a backer (Brinkley). That way it won't be terrible that he's a two down player, primarily...

WTFchris

James is a better in pass coverage and could stay on the field. Rey has a little more range than James, but that's the only thing I've seen where he has an edge. I think Rey can cover the swing plays better because he's faster sideline to sideline than James.

But Rey is rated higher than JL is most places. I see Rey rated mid 1st and JL late 1 early 2.

WTFchris

due to his range. speed bumps guys up on everyone's list. just look at how obsessed everyone is with 40 times. there is more talk of 40 times than all the other combine tests combined.

Tahoe

I forgot what JL's 40 was. I know it wasn't fast but Rey is running 4.7ish.

With linebackers, I don't care nearly as much about the 40 time as I do about things like the cone drills that test change of direction, agility, and that quick burst. They're not running down a back that's gotten to the secondary to save a touchdown, but they're getting to the ball to punish someone before he gets that far.

I like all 3 USC linebackers, and I would rather have Rey than James L. Then again, I would love to get either of those guys. Who cares if they are 2 down players when the other team is 3rd and 8 because your MLB stuffed them 2 straight plays.

I like all 3 USC linebackers,
2 just tested positive for roids, you may want to avoid them.

Link?

I'm a fan of football players and not just atheletes. Especially at MLB. Get the guy with heart and recognition and he'll outperform a better athelete.

dudes got breasteses on the left. I've done roids a lil bit. A couple peeps I know at the gym still do. He looks roided to me, but you can't really tell for sure. Some of products out there now that help you build muscle that aren't really roids can do a lot for a young guy too. So who knows for sure.

Ha I knew Matthews was on roids. You're not a nobody for 3 years at USC before suddenly becoming a top draft prospect. I live in Oregon and I seriously had never even heard of Clay Matthews before last year except in the conversation that Ducks starting MLB Casey Matthews had a brother playing for USC. In the Pac 10, you don't come out of nowhere like that.

How come i can't find it on any major sites. Every site has that story pulled or is linking to a site with it pulled.

Was this made up?

I think the NFL said today it was false.

NFL.com, April 6: "These rumors are absolutely false," said Carroll, according to USC's official website. "If they were found positive, Clay and Cush would have been notified three weeks ago, which they weren't, and all of the NFL teams would have been notified, too, which they weren't.
"They're both men of outstanding character and they never tested positive for anything here," Carroll said. "This is an major example of irresponsible reporting, and the site that published this report should be ashamed of themselves."

His agent said he (the agent) would have rec'd a letter if true. We'll know for postively 100% sure on the 20th. But it looks like its bogus.

So I could be wrong but there is ZERO official word that he tested positive.

NFL | Raji assured he did not fail drug test
Tue, 07 Apr 2009 09:54:42 -0700
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports Boston College DL B.J. Raji said he has been assured he did not fail a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine. "The biggest thing is trying to figure out how this started," Raji said. "I couldn't understand how this rumor became such a big splash in the media when there was no evidence - there was no substance to believe it. The last couple days, I was just trying to figure out: Who? What? Basically, why?. … Now, I'm happy the truth is out. Obviously, it's not going to be as big of a splash as the negative part. But as long as the coaches and the decision-makers know what is true, then I don't need to be concerned with everybody else."
