Not sure if you guys heard about it, but we acquired OF Josh Anderson from the Braves in exchange for a minor league pitcher (Rudy Darrow).
Leyland said Anderson will immediately be on the active roster so Raburn & Clevlen are going to get DFA.
Some nuggets on Josh Anderson...
* played in 40 games last year with the Braves had 136 AB's and hit a respectable .294
* he was in line to be the Braves starting CF (not because he's a future star, but due to lack of better options)
* He's a centerfielder by trade and he's pretty fast (expect an easy 30 stolen bases)
* He has limited power (only 3 HR last year) but he's a left handed hitter
Basically were looking at a younger Scott Podsednik, here.

Left fielder?
I'm worried about our defense in left. The problem is that we want CGuillen's bat in the lineup and he can't DH cuz Shef is our DH, right?

Yeah, Guillen's not going to impress anybody with the glove out in LF, but Thames is pretty much just as bad.
Guillen at least has the arm to make strong cut off throws. Granderson's probably going to have to cheat over a little bit so he can give Guillen some insurance on balls hit in the gaps.

^ Which puts more pressure on Mags in right to cover right center. Well Curtis is that good that maybe he will be able to cover all that ground.
So I was reading about a Thames deal that fell through. I hope Thames can be moved for a outfielder that can play a lil D and hit too. Problem is still getting CGuillens bat and Shefs bat in the lineup.

Ideally, they'd like to trade Thames.
They had a deal in place with the Mets to acquire relief pitcher Brian Stokes, but the Mets backed out last minute.
I'm not sure why Thames never seems to drum up much trade interest. He's got a fair price tag (less than $3M) and he's practically Adam Dunn's clone when you scale his numbers across a full season.

He can hit, that's for sure. Its just his defense that worries people, I'd assume. I like the trade, from the standpoint of someone that's never heard of Josh Anderson. We traded a minor league arm that I haven't heard much about (recognize the name but not much more) for a guy that's been decent in the bigs and can fill in for all three outfield spots (I assume if he can play CF, he can play RF and LF). Now, if we move Thames, we have a little bit of insurance out there other than the young guys in the minors. What happens to our minor league boys that are out of options though? Which ones have options left and which don't: Larish, Rayburn, Clevlen

Larish is fine s of right now, but Raburn and Clevlen will probably be DFA.

Well, this deal makes more sense now that we've released Sheff. Guillen and Ordonez will see more time at DH. Anderson will be able to fill in for them.
