View Full Version : Question/observation about Stuckey

I've always thought that his handle is weak, but lately I've been noticing that he seems to dribble the ball in an odd manner. It's almost like he's dribbling it with the heel of his palm, and he does it with both hands.

It got me thinking that he also might have small hands, which could explain why he has so much trouble finishing at the rim. It also might explain why the staff at Eastern Washington decided to use him at SG instead of PG.

I know that they do a lot of measurables at the pre-draft camps for things like height, weight, vertical, etc. but do they do other specific things like hand/finger size?

Everyone used to say that Ben Wallace had small hands, but was that just an observation is there tangible information about that?

I know they measure hands in the NFL, but thats not adding a whole lot to the conversation.

I don't know if it's so much that he dribbles in an odd way, it seems to me that he runs awkwardly. He stands very straight up. Like his posture is too good.

Ben Wallace absolutely had small hands. Rip poked fun all the time at the fact Ben was twice his size but had "baby mits."

I think Ben couldn't even palm a ball. Is that correct?

standing still? No. A lot of NBA players can't, though. Just odd for a center.

GD - you'd have better luck searching through DraftExpress.com or something because I seriously doubt if anyone here knows for certain but fwiw ...

I have never, ever seen a measurement of hands printed anywhere after the pre-Draft camps.

I don't recall ever reading about hand measurements after a team worked out someone either.

Part of me wants to dig into hand anthropometrics.

Part of me wants to say: "Talk to the hand."

Which part will win out, and does it matter?

I've noticed that too, Glenn.

My two cents: I think the upright posture thing affects where the ball meets his hands on the dribble. However, I like his posture at times because it's deceiving -- defenders rarely know when he's going to explode to the hoop and I think it keeps them off balance.

One of the talking heads on the ESPN broadcast on Saturday was saying that Kwame Brown has the smallest hands that this person had even seen for a center.
