View Full Version : George Kell dead. Hermy 03-24-2009, 11:49 AM George Kell, Tiger great and announcer. Glenn 03-24-2009, 11:51 AM George Kell, Tiger great and announcer. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Tahoe 03-24-2009, 11:52 AM rip George. I listened to him from the begining. Tahoe 03-24-2009, 11:53 AM "Thanks Larry and Good afternoon everyone. Its a cool 68 degrees at the ball park today. AND HERES THE FIRST PITCH OF THE BALL GAME" I swear he started every telecast with something like that. Glenn 03-24-2009, 11:55 AM Fuck. This one hurts. Hermy 03-24-2009, 11:58 AM I love how he would be cool and calm all game, then for no reason bust loose on mundane plays. "2 outs, Tigers up 4-2, no one on.....AND HERE'S A BASE HIT!" Tahoe 03-24-2009, 12:00 PM Who was he teamed with for all those years. Larry ??? I can picture him but can't recall his name right now. MoTown 03-24-2009, 12:03 PM Kaline, right? Tahoe 03-24-2009, 12:05 PM I just looked it up Mo, Larry Osterman. Kaline later? MoTown 03-24-2009, 12:09 PM Nah - I think I'm off on that one. You're right it was Larry. Tahoe 03-24-2009, 12:21 PM ^ Thats ok Bro, you bailed me out the other day in the "Denny to" thread. I couldn't figure out what came after 99. Vinny 03-24-2009, 12:27 PM No, it was Al Kaline and George Kell after Larry right? At least in the late eighties? RIP George, you are missed already. I can't believe Ernie and Sparky outlasted you. Vinny 03-24-2009, 12:32 PM I think Kaline and Kell were on the WDIV broadcasts, Osterman might have been on PASS? Tahoe 03-24-2009, 12:43 PM George and Larry were together on some regular channel in Bay City when I was growin up. There were no other channels cept 3, 10, 13 and a UHF channel. And they all went off the air after Johnny Carson. We have to remember I'm so old I knew the Dead Sea when it was just sick. Glenn 03-24-2009, 12:53 PM And he makes a WHALE OF PLAY. Glenn 03-24-2009, 12:59 PM Turn the volume down (way down) and enjoy! sVo4vFv_oAg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVo4vFv_oAg Glenn 03-24-2009, 01:04 PM I bought my best man a George Kell autographed bat as a groomsman's gift. Tahoe 03-24-2009, 01:17 PM 16 was pretty damn good. Wasn't set to some tear jerking music. Well done. DE 03-24-2009, 04:19 PM I don't know who came before but I grew up with Kell and Kaline and an animated Tiger eating bats, logos or nursing his wounds. That news sucks. RIP. mercury 03-24-2009, 04:27 PM And he makes a WHALE OF PLAY. "Well Al, that Home Run was about a 4-0-0" Hermy 03-24-2009, 04:44 PM I don't know who came before but I grew up with Kell and Kaline and an animated Tiger eating bats, logos or nursing his wounds. . Jethro has this .gif. Vinny 03-25-2009, 02:44 AM Jethro has this .gif. Yeah, I feel like Wizzle maybe used it as an Av? Somebody did....because I was pissed because I had spent like an hour looking for it at one point to no avail and then all of a sudden it was here... Jethro34 03-25-2009, 06:32 AM Jethro has this .gif. Actually, not me. I don't remember who it was, but I remember it in the broadcasts like it was yesterday. Kaline and Kell were what it was about in the booth when I was growing up and I loved it. Rod and Mario are nowhere close. Hermy 03-25-2009, 06:44 AM Shit, sorry, maybe it was Wiz. Someone here had it as their av for a while. Uncle Mxy 03-25-2009, 10:42 AM George Kell was one of the greats. I always enjoyed his Tigers broadcasts. mercury 03-25-2009, 03:33 PM Van Patrick (also voice of the Lions) & Dizzy Trout did the TV analyst b4 Kell... Ray Lane worked some TV in the mid 60s... then he took over for Kell in the late 90s. There were more in the 50s (just gotta find my walker first) Tahoe 03-25-2009, 05:58 PM Ray Lane sounds really familiar but I can't place him. BTW... I was checking the guide for whats on tonight and at 7:30 there is a show called FSN Basement. A history of All-Star baseball in Detroit featuring George Kell and Al Kaline, fwiw. |
