“Match-up Cam” Telecast on FOX Sports Detroit PLUS Supplements Standard Game Coverage on FOX Sports Detroit & HD
Unique Dual Telecast Planned For Thursday’s Pistons-Lakers Game
Friday, March 20, 2009

For the first time, FOX Sports Detroit’s collection of channels will present simultaneous telecasts of the same game, but from two different perspectives, when the Pistons take on the Los Angeles Lakers at the Palace on Thursday, March 26.

The traditional game coverage will appear on FOX Sports Detroit and in high-definition on FOX Sports Detroit HD.

Meanwhile, FOX Sports Detroit PLUS presents a “Match-up Cam” telecast, with devoted cameras isolating on key battles throughout the game among the many stars on each team.

“We are looking forward to this unique, creative and compelling use of our PLUS service,” said Greg Hammaren, Senior Vice President/General Manager, FOX Sports Detroit. “We hope fans that are enjoying the traditional high-quality telecast on our main service will be intrigued to sample PLUS to see an isolated view of just how hard these great athletes work during the course of a game.”

Coverage on all channels begins at 6:30 PM with Pistons Insider, followed by PISTONS LIVE at 7:00 and the game at 7:30. Game audio will be the same on all channels with play-by-play announcer George Blaha, analyst Greg Kelser, along with sideline reporters Ryan Field and Eli Zaret. Field hosts PISTONS LIVE pregame, while Mickey York hosts the postgame edition.

Version 1...

"Hay, why don't they just call it 'KobeCam'!?"

Version 2...

"So how is this different than any other telecast?"

Umm... gay.

So we get to watch the superstars more than we already do? I would much rather appreciate an overhead view that can show you what plays are being run and defensive adjustments. Instead we get to watch the superstar system a little bit closer.

I do give them credit for trying to come up with ways to get people to actually watch this mess.

#3...Thats what I miss in the NFL. We used to be able to see defensive adjustments, player changes from wide angles and you knew what was going on. Now we see sweat on Brett Favres nose. Everything is a close up.

I thought that ESPN already does this. You can go online and watch these matchup cams and I think people vote on the matchup they want to see. I think it's cool, as long as it isn't used in the main feed on TV. Keep it online, or show some clips of the matchup at halftime maybe.

I don't get it, what about when players get switched off on picks? Who do they follow?

Seems like it'll be sorta lame to have the play-by-play be the same on both channels. Will the commercials be different? I could envision a KobeCam follower being interested in different ads than just a regular game watcher (e.g. defense attorneys who specialize in rape cases, assorted services for little Mexican girls).

Since I went a long time without being able to watch football I really notice the difference. You always hear people complaining about sideline reporters and too many commercials but no one ever complains about this.

I always complain about not being able to see the secondary adjustments, or what the secondary does after the snap. If it is a passing league then can we get a passing friendly camera view? Whenever I get a good viewing perspective on passing plays, I often see many places where the QB could have thrown it and how much a real QB would have helped in those instances. So I guess in the Lions case I should just be happy I can't see the wide open WR's

One of the early advertisements about the nation ditching analogue was that sports telecasts would simulcast more of their feeds. They touted the user deciding which angles to watch the game from. This seems like a first step toward that. I welcome it.
