Glenn 03-19-2009, 12:20 PM Yeah, pretty much what the title implies.
I went with
NC
Pitt
Memphis
MSU
Pitt over MSU for the title.
I had MSU over Pitt until this morning, but I switched it.
Glenn 03-19-2009, 12:55 PM *UPSET ALERT*
BYU DOWN 12 TO TEXAS A&M
jturbo 03-19-2009, 12:59 PM Anyone's CBS channel fucking up like mine?
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 01:12 PM Friggin Memphis only up 4 almost at the end of the half. 2-15 matchup. I'd expect this to get easier for Memphis in the 2nd.
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 01:13 PM edit..due to not reading above posts. I WL'd it.
Zip Goshboots 03-19-2009, 01:41 PM MSU in the Final Four? You trying to suck up to bukdow?

Glenn 03-19-2009, 01:58 PM *UPSET ALERT*
MEMPHIS IS NOW TRAILING (2ND HALF)
Glenn 03-19-2009, 01:59 PM So much for "the best defensive team in the country".
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 02:19 PM I have Memphis going deep. Not good here.
Northridge is Denny's team. He should be in here post padding on them.
WTFchris 03-19-2009, 02:22 PM Friggin Memphis only up 4 almost at the end of the half. 2-15 matchup. I'd expect this to get easier for Memphis in the 2nd.
I like it actually. I have Memphis winning it all. A little scare can sometimes do you some good.
I have:
Pitt
Memhis
MSU
UNC
Memphis over UNC finals.
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 02:25 PM I like it actually. I have Memphis winning it all. A little scare can sometimes do you some good.

I was actually going to type that very thing Chris. It is sometimes good.
I have Pit too. Its always IF they can get through to the big games. I like their chances if :we: can get through the early games.
Zip Goshboots 03-19-2009, 02:32 PM There's a yes and no to that. These early round scares against bad teams can reveal weaknesses that better teams and coaches can really capitalize on. It usually spells DOOM. Check out UM under Bill Frieder--the guy couldn't get past the second round but once--then Fisher took UM all the way with a completely different approach and coaching style, and the use of better substitution and finding the "hot" player. Yes, I know it helped to have Glenn Rice and Sean Higgins hitting everything they threw up, but that team seemed tougher, more resilient, and had a very fetching and, dare I say, :gutsy: personality after Frieder departed.
The only thing I can say in memphis' defense is that sometimes, nay, ALOT of times it just depends on matchups (just like football bowl games). You may run into a team that just has a style that is going to give you fits. Also, in these early rounds, you have the teams who really have nothing to lose and play like it. In the later rounds, sphincters start to tighten a bit more and yes, form may usually hold out.
I'm hoping our Wolvies play this "We have nothing to lose" type of style today, while Clemson has a sphincter problem.
WTFchris 03-19-2009, 02:58 PM I was listening to the Herd and he thinks Michigan could make the sweet 16. He was their biggest sleeper team.
Glenn 03-19-2009, 03:21 PM Calhoun ill, won't coach UConn in first round (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney09/news/story?id=3996427)
Timone 03-19-2009, 04:50 PM Final Four: Louisville, UNC, Memphis, PIT
Championship: UNC over Louisville
By the way, not to brag or anything (I'm not Chris), I had A&M over BYU, Maryland over Cal, and LSU over Butler. And I don't know DICK about college ball!
Jethro34 03-19-2009, 04:57 PM Final Four:
UNC and Pitt (the easy picks)
Wake Forest and Purdue (the "are you serious?" picks)
UNC beats Wake for the title.
Timone 03-19-2009, 04:58 PM I have Villanova making the Elite 8. Would that be considered an "are you crazy?" pick?
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 05:03 PM Final Four:
UNC and Pitt (the easy picks)
Wake Forest and Purdue (the "are you serious?" picks)
UNC beats Wake for the title.
Whenever I say those things, UNC and Pit won't make it and Wake and Purdue will.
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 05:07 PM Final Four: Louisville, UNC, Memphis, PIT

Timone 03-19-2009, 05:07 PM Sorry, I didn't sign up for that. I can take a screen cap of my bracket if you'd like :(
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 05:09 PM 1st time I've signed up, so I had to talk some shit.
Timone 03-19-2009, 05:10 PM This was my first time just doing a bracket.
Timone 03-19-2009, 06:11 PM Final Four: Louisville, UNC, Memphis, PIT
Championship: UNC over Louisville
By the way, not to brag or anything (I'm not Chris), I had A&M over BYU, Maryland over Cal, and LSU over Butler. And I don't know DICK about college ball!
I also picked Mississippi State to beat Washington and they're down 17 last I checked. Bah.
Timone 03-19-2009, 08:07 PM Nova down 10 to American at half.
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 08:42 PM ^ That would hurt my bracket substantially..if Nova went down.
Timone 03-19-2009, 08:45 PM I've got em going to the Elite 8, so mine too.
Glenn 03-19-2009, 08:58 PM I hope American can win one for Stoney!
Timone 03-19-2009, 09:24 PM Looks like our brackets aren't hurt substantially after all. Nova about to pull it out.
Tahoe 03-19-2009, 09:26 PM That would have sucked.

Jethro34 03-21-2009, 08:14 AM Big Ten not representing as well as I had hoped, with 3 of the 7 teams losing in the 1st round - all to very beatable opponents (Illinois, Minnesota, and Ohio State).
On a more personal note - since I picked Wake Forest to make it to the championship game and lose to UNC in that game, I'm officially done. Even if I get every other pick right, I'm fairly certain there's no way I can win.
Zip Goshboots 03-21-2009, 10:34 AM Fuck the Big Ten--especially OSU and MSU. What is it with people that root for a fucking CONFERENCE??? Who gives a fuck what the other teams do? I've got a lot more stuff going on that to worry about the Big Ten gosh golly gee whiz

A friend of mine is a USC football fan and he brings up the Big Ten all the time, probably because I'm a Michigan fan. "Who gives a shit?" I ask.
Zip Goshboots 03-21-2009, 11:04 AM ^^^NO shit. Go axe a Sparty or a buckeye if they root fro Michigan to do well because Michigan is in the big Ten. They'll fucking eat your children for even axing such a dumb question.
Oh, I KNOW what Jethro would say. The standard Michigan fan reply: "We're better than that. We're Michigan fans. We are classy. Classy, but not flashy"
Fuck that. I hope MSU and OSU (and for some odd reason, Indiana) lose every fucking game they play in every sport for the next 5,000 years.
Timone 03-21-2009, 11:07 AM Ya know what's funny? I saw some guy on another site treating the whole "root for the Conference to do well" thing as if it was some sort of unwritten rule or something.
If I remember correctly, a Michigan fan was taking joy in OSU's loss to Texas in the Fiesta Bowl. Someone (an OSU fan -- go figure) took offense, and preached this "Big Ten Conference Brotherhood" bullshit. I felt like signing up and asking this asshole if he even attended a Big Ten University.
Zip Goshboots 03-21-2009, 11:34 AM ^^^You know he'll say he did. I mean, out in the real world, about 25% of adults have a college degree, but in Message Board World, that figure jumps to 623% (Because most message board guys have at least TWO degrees, and many have masters and PhD's as well).
Jethro34 03-21-2009, 03:10 PM No, I want the conference to do well because if they do, it makes UM look better.
This past year UM was horrible in football, but what made it even worse was they lost to a bunch of teams who couldn't win bowl games. Had the Big Ten gone out and worked everyone else in their bowl games, I wouldn't have been happy for OSU, but I would have been able to say "At least UM had a bunch of losses to good teams".
So this year everyone was saying that the possibility of the Big Ten getting 8 teams in was insane because the conference isn't that good. Well, UM went 9-9 in the conference. If they were only .500 in an ok conference, that doesn't reflect as well on them. However, if they were 9-9 in a conference that had more teams in than ever before (and yes, I realize Penn State didn't make it) AND those teams did very well in the tourney, then it's like "Ok, UM may have only been .500, but they played against some of the top competition in the country night after night."
But make no mistake, while I want the Big Ten to do well, it's actually wanting Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Illinois to do well. I enjoy MSU and OSU losing.
Tahoe 03-21-2009, 06:50 PM Purdue's D looks tough today against Wash.
Timone 03-21-2009, 10:31 PM Damnit. Fuck Duke.

bukdow 03-25-2009, 11:27 AM ^^^NO shit. Go axe a Sparty or a buckeye if they root fro Michigan to do well because Michigan is in the big Ten. They'll fucking eat your children for even axing such a dumb question.

Fuck that. I hope MSU and OSU (and for some odd reason, Indiana) lose every fucking game they play in every sport for the next 5,000 years.
Actually, UM is the only Big Ten team I don`t root for. Perhaps I am being childish, or perhaps it has to do with the fact UM is a douchebag institution with wannabe fans like those on this board.
WTFchris 03-25-2009, 11:31 AM I root for all big ten teams except OSU.
FWIW, since I'm probably the only poster who needs this, but the streaming off of cbssports.com is really good. And you get to pick your game.
Tahoe 03-27-2009, 08:44 PM It looks like Syracuse run has come to an end.
Tahoe 03-27-2009, 11:24 PM Izzo is the difference in this one.
Tahoe 03-27-2009, 11:38 PM Kansas was up 3 with the ball and now its tied and MSU has the ball. Not a good stretch for Jayhawk fans.
Darth Thanatos 03-27-2009, 11:40 PM MSU is the real deal.
Darth Thanatos 03-27-2009, 11:45 PM And these refs are blind.
Tahoe 03-27-2009, 11:45 PM Damn, there goes my bracket.
Tahoe 03-27-2009, 11:48 PM This game makes twice that I've rooted for Kansas. The first time and the last time.
Darth Thanatos 03-27-2009, 11:48 PM I wonder if Izzo realizes he can get ANY job he wants
Tahoe 03-27-2009, 11:51 PM This might have been his best coaching job ever.

WTFchris 03-28-2009, 01:02 PM I'm concerned that MSU has a legit chance to beat UL. They looked pretty impressive last night.
Glenn 03-28-2009, 02:48 PM MY Spartans looked pretty solid.
Aldrich looks good, too.
Tahoe 03-28-2009, 04:37 PM Mizzou can get beat on the boards and still win this. I hope they can keep it close on the boards though and hit some 3s.
Timone 03-28-2009, 04:37 PM I liked the piece that CBS did on Michigan State and the Final Four being in Detroit.
Tahoe 03-28-2009, 05:15 PM My Tigers are hangin tough.

Glenn 03-28-2009, 09:50 PM Nice presser, Pitt.

Glenn 03-29-2009, 08:02 AM Although I had MSU in the Finals in my bracket, I think their run ends today. Louisville seems like they just have too much firepower. There's only so much that Izzo can do.

Tahoe 03-29-2009, 03:03 PM Fa Shizzo! 22-20
Good first half.
I can't believe CBS let Gus Johnson have the MSU game. It's nice to not have to listen to Pitino ballwashing. In fact, he seems to get just a bit more enthused for Spartan baskets. I hope that pisses off the rest of the country.
Did CBS on TV have a moment of Gus and the other dude just chatting it up with each other and their producer on camera thinking they were off?
b-diddy 03-29-2009, 03:52 PM the only thing unlikeable about this msu team buckdow and dre tre.
ill be extremely impressed if they can hold on and beat louisville. if they do, they have to be considered the favorites headed into the FF.

I remember when the Pistons played like that. *sigh*

Timone 03-29-2009, 04:32 PM Tahoe and I, being true fans of the Spartans and college basketball in general, knew this would happen. Y'all can jump onto the bandwagon with your 2 degrees and alum status, but this is much sweeter for those of us that actually WATCHED all year long.

I'd prefer Villanova and MSU. Two teams overlooked by the UNC/Uconn circle jerk at the beginning of the year.
Tahoe 03-30-2009, 12:54 PM UNC vs MSU
Then The Shizz wins it all
I'd prefer Villanova and MSU. Two teams overlooked by the UNC/Uconn circle jerk at the beginning of the year.
Which is why I would love to see MSU taking them both out. Knocking off Uconn and then getting revenge on UNC would be over the top on the cool scale.
WTFchris 03-30-2009, 02:00 PM yeah, i can see that.
on the other hand I wrap up 2nd place in my work pool if anyone but UNC wins the title (nobody can catch the first place person). So I've got some money in my pocket if Nova, MSU or Uconn wins it. For that reason i'd like to see UNC loose ASAP.
Also, some friends of ours went to Nova and it would be fun to watch the game together and root against each other.
After beating the #1 overall seed (UL), MSU doesn't have to beat a better team (UNC vs Nova) to validate their title (if they won). They've already proven they deserve to be there.
You're right. They have proven they deserve to be there. But I want more. I want them to beat the best, to be the best, and in front of tens of thousands of fans in Detroit, stick it to the East Coast Sports BS machine.
But I'm not asking for much.
WTFchris 03-30-2009, 02:33 PM if I didn't have money on UNC losing I'd probably agree with you.
I'd be happy with a win over Nova though. That is three wins (UL, UConn, Nova) over the Big East power conference that everyone has talked about this year.
Hermy 03-30-2009, 03:02 PM Fuck the best. Get them ships.

By Michigan State University standards they won multiple championships.

bukdow 04-05-2009, 05:13 AM By University of Kentucky standards they didn't win anything.
By Michigan State University standards they won multiple championships.
Shut the fuck up you deluded little piss-ant. Keep demanding excellence you slack-jawed half-breed. I am sure you will ascend to unimaginable hieghts. Like maybe assistant manager over your fellow bag boys down at the Kessel.
MoTown 04-05-2009, 09:29 PM Don't waste your time, bukky. Just let our team do the talking. At midnight tomorrow night, our Spartans will be hoisting their 17th Larry O'Brian Trophy.
Baker 04-05-2009, 10:21 PM I agree with Jethro and I've submitted a complaint to the NCAA.
Why the fuck are they printing this false propaganda on these shirts and hats and giving it to kids and to make it worse they put it on the freaking trophy! Wait a minute, that's another complaint, WHY ARE THEY HOLDING A TROPHY DAMN IT!!! >>>

Jethro34 04-06-2009, 12:14 AM Seriously, did you miss the Calipari press conference? The one where he said one of the things that drew him to Kentucky was the fact that they don't celebrate anything besides national championships? They don't hang Final Four or conference banners at Rupp because they don't mean anything when your standards are Kentucky standards. It's all or nothing. That's the attitude I love. That's why I'll be in Lexington in 4 days. (or perhaps it's because that's where I go golfing every year on Easter weekend).

Good for them. Look where it has got them. All it is, is big talk to make your program appear better or above others. UNC cuts down the nets and celebrates Final Fours, so does Duke, so does Indiana, so who cares?
I think you miss the point on this one. Celebrating an achievement doesn't mean you are settling for less. Did Izzo look satisfied yesterday? Celebrating one achievement doesn't mean your #1 goal isn't the ultimate prize. It is simply taking a short moment to take in the fact that you worked so hard to reach a goal and you've done it. Not cutting down a net or hanging a banner doesn't make you more likely to beat the next guy or make you better than the other guy (MSU cut down the net, UConn didn't). It's just a false front to look better. In reality not celebrating is just robbing kids of a memory that will last their lifetime and one they deserve. It doesn't make you more focused on the ultimate prize
Zip Goshboots 04-06-2009, 05:45 AM Tre:
I think YOU are missing the point: Jethro goes golfing every year in Lexington. Aren't we Michigan fans the most nifty gadabouts you ever did see?
You'll ne'er run into a Michigan fan who isn't about the most important person, with the most critical involvements, who really needs to get somwhere in a hurry, and who is always in between vacations that are to die for.
It's the Michigan way. It comes from having the need to justify.

You are a monumental douchebag. Here is Jethro34, the SVSU grad demanding excellence, damn it! Obviously, Jethro is the type of individual that will not only accept nothing but the best from himself, but from the hand of fate as well. And, he golfs in Kentucky. My word, what can`t an SVSU grad who demands excellence achieve? I dare say nothing.
Jethro you are a beacon of awesomeosity to the rest of the guys down at the Speedway. Seriously, from golfing in Kentucky to obviously only accepting, not merely demanding, excellence from yourself and others your entire life to your support of a greaseball like Calipari. You, Jethro34, are top-shelf.
b-diddy 04-06-2009, 12:30 PM ^ jealous.
Jethro34 04-06-2009, 01:27 PM So as I bite through the sarcasm, I'm to believe that an SVSU grad is in the wrong for expecting excellence however there isn't anything even remotely troubling about a double-major MSU grad spending his days chopping wood.
By the way, you should really check to news. All the bashing you have done of "Wal-Mart Wolverines" must be smacking you right about now. I have seen dozens of interviews on the news from State fans who admittedly "never went to the school but I partied there a few times" driving around with their S car flags raiding Wal-Mart for Final Four apparel.
I'm assuming there's nothing hypocritical about that, right?
(not sure why I even spent the time typing this since your typical response to logical arguments is not at all or "STFU fag")
