I honestly didn't understand the need to change the logo. Sure it looks 50's. But so do the logos and jerseys from all the teams that were around back then (more or less). I grew up hating Honolulu Blue for some reason but I like it now, I like our colors and our logo, if nothing else because they are unique and ours.

I am glad that they finally got rid of those shitty black jerseys.

Lions logo changes coming Monday

The Detroit Lions are expected to unveil next Monday the team's tweaked "Bubbles" the mascot lion logo and the typeface for the official team logo script.

The unveiling will come at Dunham's Sports in Madison Heights.

A slightly angrier version of the current Lions icon was accidentally released recently on a toy truck on NFLShop.com. It was quickly taken down. The team wouldn't confirm or deny that it was the official new logo.

It's unclear what changes, if any, will happen with the uniform design. The traditional silver and Honolulu blue colors are expected to stay the same.

The team hinted last year it was making cosmetic tweaks to its logo as part of a wider marketing plan to sell the winless team back to fans and corporate sponsors.

Any logo changed would have had to have been submitted to the NFL corporate office last March and been approved in November -- before the team finished its catastrophic 0-16 season.

Until they change from the leaping Lion and/or get a darker blue, I'm not buying the "new and improved look"

Looking at the Lions’ new logo is like looking at the Lions’ old logo, only in high definition.The familiar Honolulu blue leaping lion has been updated with teeth, an eye and other detailing. It actually looks like a lion now, not just an outline.

The Lions unveiled their new logo and uniforms this afternoon before a crowd at Dunham’s in Madison Heights.

The old circus letters have given way to a new type-face that seems to suggest paw marks.

The uniforms don’t look too much different, but the block numbers have been replaced with more curvy ones, also suggesting paw marks.

The stripes on the helmets, shoulders and pants have been simplified and are now consistent with each other.

The Lions wanted to embrace their history in making the logo update. Instead of overhauling their look, as teams like Denver have, the Lions opted to tweak theirs, much like Arizona did.
