View Full Version : Lions sign Grady Jackson Wilfredo Ledezma 03-03-2009, 02:53 PM Interesting. Wilfredo Ledezma 03-03-2009, 02:53 PM Hopefully this spells the end of the Chuck Darby experiment. Jackson is 36, but he had a nice season in Atlanta last year. DrRay11 03-03-2009, 02:53 PM I read he's likely to be signed if he passes a physical. What's your source? WTFchris 03-03-2009, 02:56 PM Well, he soaks up two blockers well. We probably won't see him in the backfield a lot at this age, but if he can keep occupy the center and a guard that lets Redding rush 1 on 1. Wilfredo Ledezma 03-03-2009, 02:57 PM Lions.com says he has to pass the physical first...your right DRay... Wilfredo Ledezma 03-03-2009, 02:57 PM Well, he soaks up two blockers well. We probably won't see him in the backfield a lot at this age, but if he can keep occupy the center and a guard that lets Redding rush 1 on 1. That's the way I look at it... Just be a plug. DrRay11 03-03-2009, 03:01 PM There looks to be a nice crop of DT's in next year's draft class, maybe this could be a good 1 or 2 year stopgap so we don't have teams running all over us up the middle like last year... We still should look at a guy like Sammie Lee Hill or Chris Baker in the 3rd round this year, IMO. Wilfredo Ledezma 03-03-2009, 03:03 PM I'm all for short-term gaps so we can use a draft pick elsewhere this year. Worked for Atlanta & Miami last year. Glenn 03-03-2009, 03:14 PM What's your source? Uhh... DennyMcLain 03-03-2009, 09:21 PM Bobby Engram might be out at Seattle. Should the Lions pick him up if they go for a QB at #1? DrRay11 03-03-2009, 09:42 PM Not unless he comes cheap. We need to invest in some other positions. Zekyl 03-04-2009, 09:03 AM Not unless he comes cheap. We need to invest in some other positions. Agreed. If he's cheap, go for it, otherwise we need to keep plugging bigger holes. darkobetterthanmelo 03-04-2009, 12:59 PM Agreed. If he's cheap, go for it, otherwise we need to keep plugging bigger holes. Great choice of words for a Grady Jackson thread Zekyl 03-04-2009, 01:55 PM I try. Do you think this means we don't go after someone like Peria Jerry with the 1b pick? DrRay11 03-04-2009, 02:16 PM If I had money, I would bet quite a bit of money that we don't take Peria Jerry at #20. WTFchris 03-04-2009, 02:31 PM I think it almost certainly will be a LB (assuming Curry is not taken #1). Zekyl 03-04-2009, 02:36 PM If I had money, I would bet quite a bit of money that we don't take Peria Jerry at #20. #20 or even #33 if he's still there. I don't think we'll take a DT with one of our top 3 picks at all. Maybe in the 3rd, because that guy isn't likely going to be starting for you anyway. Wizzle 03-04-2009, 04:17 PM Report: Lions sign Grady Jackson to three-year deal by Tom Kowalski Wednesday March 04, 2009, 3:54 PM According to NFL.com, the Detroit Lions have signed defensive tackle Grady Jackson to a three-year deal. The 36-year-old Jackson will replace Chuck Darby in the starting lineup and will be used primarily as a two-down run-stopper. The move was made to improved Detroit's porous run defense; the Lions had the worst-ranked overall defense in the NFL in each of the last two seasons. The signing of Jackson could make Darby expendable because the Lions have several young players who should get a fair amount of playing time. Lions president Tom Lewand said the Lions will continue to be selective throughout the free agent process. The Lions, who will be in the market for a veteran backup quarterback, are continuing talks with several free agent cornerbacks, including Jabari Greer and Chris Carr. Zekyl 03-04-2009, 04:58 PM Who are these several young players at DT? Cody? Who else? Was Fluellen a DT? DrRay11 03-04-2009, 05:39 PM I assume they're talking about Fluellen and maybe Cohen. I'd say Cody's chances are about up if not already. |
