View Full Version : Michigan Athletics: The Excuse Machine
Zip Goshboots 03-01-2009, 10:52 PM Well ladies, we Michigan fans are certainly reduced to making a whole bunch of excuses for the sorry state of Michigan basketball and football, aren't we?
Let's see: On Scout, King Beaver is calling for a 6-6 season, and saying that would be GOOD, because he reall expects UM to go 5-7. Wow, the Beaver, with his head all up in Rodriguez's ass, is really lowering his expecations and buying into this "Well, Rodriguez have to get him own players in therr" bullshit.
In comparison, Mark Dantonio took over a complete mess in Lansing and went 7-5 (bowl game), then 9-3 (bowl game) his first two years. No excuses there, eh? Plus, it was friggin' Michigan State, which UM fans love to call "Little Brother".
And how about basketball? We are in Year Two of the other coveted West Virginia coach that UM stole, John Belein, and he is going to go NIT-ing after going 10-22 his first year. Yup, he still have to get him own players also.
In comparison, The Izzo took over at MSU in 1995, went NIT 2nd round his first two years. Wow. Maybe Belein can equal that monumental success. Of course, The Izzo went crazy after that. Does anyone honestly see Belein having anywhere NEAR the success The Izzo had over the next decade of his career? HAHAHAHAH FUCK NO
But I know: Give the West Virginia Duo another 4-12 recruiting classes, and they'll be kicking ass all over the goddamm place.
Jethro34 03-02-2009, 06:35 AM Sometime I would like to be on a boat with you and just yell "Iceberg" to see how quickly you would jump out.
Zip Goshboots 03-02-2009, 12:13 PM Nice comeback there, Jethro. Kinda makes me feel like I'm right. Again.
bukdow 03-03-2009, 05:13 PM Well ladies, we Michigan fans are certainly reduced to making a whole bunch of excuses for the sorry state of Michigan basketball and football, aren't we?

I think it is a couple of things. One, I think some folks are just behind UM because thats their team. However, I think these people are in the minority. Mostly, I think it is the vicarious aspect of the majority of non-alumni fans. They have invested so much in the false superiority they have mined out of connecting themselves to UM as a mere revenue generator that to see the reason (i.e. winning) for the rabid vicarious connection on the verge of being no more, it is more than they can deal with. So, it is the whole "the emperors new clothes" bit. Aren`t the emperors`s clothes beautiful (even though he isn`t wearing any)? Isn`t RR doing a great job and with a little more time and his players he will be in the college football hall of fame (when in fact he is recruiting players sorely ill-suited to Big Ten play)?
Frankly, its pathetic. But, it is nothing more than what many of the community college drop-out mouth-breathers who latch on to the UM hype-machine deserve.
Tahoe 03-03-2009, 05:16 PM Thanks for showing up for Zip, Buk.
bukdow 03-03-2009, 05:17 PM Thanks for showing up for Zip, Buk.
As always, my pleasure.
WTFchris 03-03-2009, 05:27 PM I don't make excuses for Michigan. They sucked this year in Football. I expected a bowl game at least. I do say I give Rich Rod another 2 seasons to be in Big Ten contention or it's a big disappointment. This year he better have a winning record and not get beat by any division 2 or MAC schools.
Hermy 03-03-2009, 05:53 PM Carr's fault.
b-diddy 03-03-2009, 05:59 PM zip your expectations are unreal. no excuses from dantoni, maybe. but im not going to be jealous of any team that crapped the bed in every big game of the season. beline may make the tourney or not, but we've atleast beaten good teams. i'll take michigan's basketball season over msu's football season any day.
as far as rodriguez. he could have done better. fine. would michigan have been better off running a threet friendly offense last year, winning a couple more games, and then having to switch it up this year? i dont know, unlike bukdow i didnt play organized football. ill give rod the benefit of the doubt. as far as 5-7, i'd put my life savings on the over.
and no offense, but asking buk to post in here just to have someone agree with you was kind of a low point the zip goshboots era. im almost dissilusioned right now.

I'll take that $12.63 bet. I'll take the under.

MSU crapped the bed in every big game? Iowa (bowl team) was pretty big, catch the last play? NW was big because they were undefeated at the time and ranked, catch that one? Michigan was big just because it is the rivalry game on the road, happen to watch that one? Funny how MSU was always ripped for not winning the ones they are supposed to, yet when they have a season in which they do just that-beat everybody with lesser or comparable talent...you then move on to, they lost to all the top teams. Shouldn't they lose to Georgia talent? OSU talent? It's also comical that you rip Dantonio and MSU for losing "big" games, yet you don't give him the free pass "let him get HIS talent" that you give RR. Didn't Dantonio take over a SPREAD team and isn't he doing the exact same thing as RR only reversed? Dantonio's roster last year 3 four stars according to Rivals, RR's roster 34 four stars according to rivals...yet you won't give Dantonio the free pass you give RR.
You'll take Beilein's 9th place season over MSU's 2nd place football season eh? It would be wonderful if you just pretended to be somewhat logical. Reading your posts are like debating a rivarly with a 8 year old.
Glenn 03-06-2009, 06:15 AM No joke.
JickBoy34 03-06-2009, 07:28 AM HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHA POST OF THE YEAR DRTRE11! GOOD SHIT. Damn, only Knockout is supposed to give beatdowns like this homeboy.

iowa... northwestern... if you can convince me msu played well vs the practice squad you might convince me.
finishing 2nd (or was it 3rd?) in the big ten in a year wisco and michigan are MIA isnt a special season. beating mediocre teams and losing to good teams isnt special.
as far as forcing spread talent into a pro offense, i do think its easier. i dont know sure how hoyer would have even played the spread. and i believe it was you (maybe knockout??) tauting ringer as a heisman candidate, so there must have been some talent there.
big ten football sucked this year. big ten basketball is having a much better year, and besides hopefully going 9-9 (which im sure in your mind is infinitly worse than going 6-2 and also beat the practice squad) michigan actually played the best and beat some of them (2-1 vs duke, ucla, with a competitive loss to uconn is pretty good to me), as opposed to having their shorts filled with feces before tipoff (the msu equivalent).
Zip Goshboots 03-06-2009, 11:56 AM All of these arguments that DingDongtonio didn't win jack shit because the Big Ten sucked REALLY make Rodriguez look like the doofus of the year for winning a whopping two conference games, b-diddly.
b-diddy 03-06-2009, 12:10 PM yes they do, but im just calling it like i see it. i still think he was a good hire but last year couldnt have gone worse.
