View Full Version : 2008/2009 Biggest Detroit Sports Team Disappointment
MoTown 02-19-2009, 10:57 PM Pretty simple question: Which Detroit Sports team this year has been the biggest disappointment. I will go ahead and make the assumption that the Pistons will not make the playoffs or be knocked out in round 1.
Detroit Tigers: Everyone predicted them in the World Series. Had the second largest Salary in baseball. Finished dead last in the Central behind the Kansas City Royals.
Detroit Lions: No expectations from most people, but when you're predicted to win 6 or 7 games and go on to be the worst team in history, that is epic failure.
Detroit Pistons: 6 straight trips to the ECF. Coming off a 59 win season. Expected to continue the trend, but they are now in danger of missing the playoffs in the EASTERN CONFERENCE.
Which stings the most?
(Thank God for the Wings)

Tahoe 02-19-2009, 11:05 PM Pistons...twice. Once at the begining and the 2nd time after the trade.
Glenn 02-20-2009, 06:12 AM Can't be the Lions, they were pretty much in line with my expectations.
But fuck, it's a tough call between the Pistons and the Tigers.
I am numb to both now.
I remember when it really used to bother me when the Pistons would lose a game like last night vs. the Spurs, and now, I don't even really care.
Maybe because the players don't care either.

Timone 02-20-2009, 07:44 AM Tigers had injuries & also Grilli (until he was traded) and Jones.
The Pistons have a dumbass coach.
Who's got a better excuse?
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-20-2009, 10:02 AM I voted for the Lions.
I went to a pre-season game Vs. Cleveland with my Dad and came out thinking to myself we have a playoff quality team.
Kitna looked unstoppable in the pre-season, we had a shut-down corner in Leigh Bodden, a stud MLB in Dizon and a top 5 WR tandem.
Then came Week 1 in Atlanta, and two plays into the game, we were down 7-0 and I felt like killing myself.

MoTown 02-20-2009, 04:45 PM I'll go with the Tigers. The second the Willis/Cabrera trade went down, the hype surrounding the season skyrocketed. It was just assumed the Tigers would at least be in the post season. But after the Tigers were swept in the second series by the White Sox, I remember thinking to myself: I don't know if these fuckers are going to win a single game, they look absolutely awful. I don't remember a season that was so hyped up and ended with such disappointment.
Timone 02-20-2009, 04:46 PM I can get with that. At least with the Pistons there was a little bit of uncertainty, what with a head coach that is basically learning on the job and a core that everyone thought wasn't winning shit anymore.
Timone 02-20-2009, 04:51 PM After thinking about this a little more, I probably should have voted for the Tigers. Busts aren't anything new, but that team was embarassingly worse than what a lot of people thought they'd be.
MoTown 02-23-2009, 10:01 AM I figured this thread would get a little more love than this...
Glenn 02-23-2009, 10:04 AM I just voted, does that help?
Note the Shock are not a disappointment. We expected great and we got it.
Glenn 02-23-2009, 10:13 AM I agree that the Shock met my expectations.
I expected not to care, and I don't.
