Anybody paying attention to this?


SportsNation nominations determined the four sports icons on the Mt. Rushmores of Sports for the 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Rick Reilly will reveal the five best mountains, which your voting helped determine, Feb. 16-20 on SportsCenter.

BTW, Michigan's "Mt. Rushmore" is Yzerman, Barry, Howe, and Joe Louis.

I understand no Lions, but no Tigers, no Pistons?

I like Gordie and Joe Louis, but can't round out the 4 yet.

ESPN reviewed the submissions and discussions on your state/region's conversation page. The four figures on Michigan's Sports Rushmore are below:

Gordie Howe (Detroit Red Wings) - The 23-time All-Star won four Stanley Cups and scored 801 career goals.

Steve Yzerman (Detroit Red Wings) - In 22 years with Detroit, Yzerman won three Stanley Cups and is ranked in the Top 10 in goals, assists, and points all-time.

Barry Sanders (Detroit Lions) - Sanders made the Pro Bowl each of his 10 seasons with the Lions and is third all-time in rushing yards. He's also the first player have 1,000 Rush yds in his first 10 seasons.

Joe Louis (Detroit) - Louis held the heavyweight title 11 years and defended his title 25 times before finishing his career with a record of 68-3 with 54 knockouts.

I would replace Yzerman with Zeke. Zeke was more valuable to his teams.
